Well, we're talking so much about it, may as well make it official.
It's the 2nd Day of Advent.
We got our tree over the weekend. We always get it Thanksgiving weekend. I decorated the tree and the mantel, among my favorite things to do each year. I wrapped some presents too. Ron and I have a tradition where we write clues on each other's gift tags and, on Christmas, the other person has to guess what's in the package before opening it. I usually draw a holiday picture on the gift tag, but I'm no artist. It's just fun. I'm also no wrapper. My packages look like they were wrapped by Edward Scissorhands.
So I have a question. Anybody out there know about live trees? Ours is not drinking up any water this year. Usually, when we put it in the tree stand and fill it with water, the tree drinks a lot of water the first few days. The water level hasn't gone down at all. I'm a bit concerned.

You may need a fresh cut on your tree. Did you put a fresh cut in it before you put it in the stand Kpatch?

I would just watch it for a couple of days. It may take a while. If it doesn't start taking any water then the tree may be too far gone to take any water.

Thanks MrsM. That's what I'm thinking too. It may not last long. But it looks pretty right now with all the ornaments and lights on it.

It is pretty. We have had pretty terrible luck with precut trees. We have started going and cutting out own. Hoping to go this weekend and get one.

We've been getting fresh cut trees for like 16 years and this is the first one that is behaving oddly. Picking out your own sounds like a fun tradition.

I like artificial trees because you can reuse them and you are not killing a tree (I never felt right about chopping down a tree just for a holiday) and because I have multiple trees around my house it just makes more sense. Besides I like unconventional xmas colors...one of my trees is platinum, one is pink (I love that tree), and I have a black one...and I have a white one.
Red and green don't make much of an appearance in my house during the holidays...which my husband hates because he grew up with more traditional looking trees. So he gets to have one little multi colored green tree in his man cave where I don't have to see it! But still he pouts because he wants to decorate a big tree in that "traditional" way...lol

I have heard enough of homes catching fires from the lights on the trees.. I just cannot be bothered with a real one. I like my little tabletop tree. It is small & lovely like me (LOL). My older bigger tree was so much work for me and it finally had started to fall apart. slyn11, I love the idea of different colors. So unique!

Monica has a small white tree of her own. It was a gift from her aunt a couple years ago.

Hubby insists on a real tree. It is his one argument he won't give in on. I can usually persuade him to do things my way but this is one I will never win, so we get a real tree every year. I hate them. I want a fake one.

I hate them. I want a fake one. Aww now you are making me feel bad about not letting my hubby have his "big" green tree. We had real trees growing up and my mom always hated them. She had her one artificial tree that she kept in the family room and we had a big live one in the foyer, because my dad was used to live trees. Here's the sad part...my mom was allergic to live trees, so she had to suffer through the holiday season. Isn't that awful? Okay...I don't feel bad about not letting hubby have his green tree anymore. LOL
