Chapter 13 JACK & JENNIFER'S HOUSE - FLASHBACK
Jeannie brought the now handcuffed J.J. down the stairs.
J.J.: I keep telling you, this is all just a big misunderstanding.
JEANNIE: That right to remain silent, you might wanna think about using it.
Shane and Kimberly, who had come with a search warrant, had looked over the house and found several pieces of evidence of J.J.'s drugs.
JENNIFER: There must be some mistake.
SHANE: I'm sorry, Jenn. I can imagine this must be hard.
JACK: We'll figure something out.SALEM COUNTY JAIL Then, Jennifer and Jeannie walked up. JEANNIE: You've been let out on bail. She opened the door and put an ankle bracelet on J.J. JEANNIE: You can leave, but don't leave town. Not unless you want a very nasty shock. JENNIFER: Come on, let's go home. J.J.: Oh, I can't. I gotta go do some stuff. JENNIFER: I don't think so young man. You're grounded. At least until the police investigate further and you have your day in court. J.J.: What? JENNIFER: Your father and I discussed this and we agreed that we would bail you out on the condition that you're grounded until your court date. J.J.: What's the difference? Why even let me out of here at all if you're just gonna lock me in my room? It's pretty much the same thing. Why even bother to let me out of here? You know, this is all your fault anyway. Your's and dad's. If he hadn't abandoned me, then we wouldn't be in this mess. And what's the point of letting me out of jail if my room is gonna be a prison? Jennifer slapped J.J. JENNIFER: Get back in the cell. J.J.: What? But..I... JENNIFER: Jeannie, please take the bracelet off and I'd like the bail money back, please. J.J.: Mom, no...I was... JENNIFER: I don't wanna hear it. Ever since you came back from school, you've been an absolute brat. Your father and I have tried to help you, but it just isn't working. I'm sorry to have to do this, son, but I guess I have to. Maybe this will teach you not to be such a little smartalek. J.J.: Mom...no..please, I was... Jeannie closed the cell door. |

Chapter 14 SALEM UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL MARLENA: Is this in fact a picture of you, Ben? BEN: Certainly looks like it. I mean, the eyebrows are a bit bushier than they are in real life. Other than that, it looks the same. MARLENA: Well, even I will admit, the resemblance is uncanny. BEN: How did you get this sketch of me? MARLENA: A patient of mine drew it. BEN: A patient? She's a good artist, even for just a rough sketch. Have I ever met her? MARLENA: I doubt it. She's in a mental institution, and has been since before you came to Salem. BEN: Oh, I see. Well, then, how did she draw a picture of me? MARLENA: She claims that she's seen you in her dreams every night for the last several weeks. BEN: Why am I in her dreams? And how could I be if I've not met her. That's impossible, isn't it? MARLENA: Most believe so, yes. In a dream state, the mind can only reproduce what it has already seen. BEN: Then how am I appearing in this woman's dreams? MARLENA: I don't know. But, it's not just her dreams. BEN: I don't follow. MARLENA: Neither do I, but that's beside the point. Two of my other patients, as well as several patients of a colleague of mine have been dreaming about you. BEN: Okay...this is getting very strange. MARLENA: I agree. But, wait, there's more. BEN: I was afraid you would say that. Marlena pulled up the This Man website. She turned the monitor around so Ben could see. BEN: What on earth's this? MARLENA: A website devoted to stories and pictures from people who have had recurring dreams involving a certain man. Most have taken to calling him This Man. BEN: That's me. That is definitely me. Where is ll this coming from? MARLENA: I have absolutely no idea. |

Chapter 15 SALEM UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL Jack wheeled himself into Marlena's office. JACK: All right, I'm here. What's going on? MARLENA: Jack, this is Ben Andrews. Ben, this is Jack Deveraux. Jack and Ben shook hands. JACK: You look familiar. Have we met? BEN: Not to my knowledge. MARLENA: Ben works at St. Luke's with Eric. Jack is a newspaper reporter. Jack looked at Ben. JACK: I'm sure I know you from somewhere. But, where? BEN: Dunno. MARLENA: Jack, I've asked you here because I've found out something about This Man. Jack pointed t Ben. JACK: What? This man? MARLENA: In a sense. JACK: I don't understand. MARLENA: That's okay. Neither do I most of the time. I mostly just make it up as I go along. Marlena held up the picture of This Man. Jack looked at the picture, and then at Ben, then the picture again. JACK: It's you! You're This Man, the man from my dreams. How? BEN: I wish I knew. MARLENA: We haven't figured out how or why, Jack, but somehow, Ben has been implanted in many people's dreams. Not just in Salem, but all over the world. JACK: This is crazy. BEN: You're telling me. At least you don't show up in thousands of people's dreams every night. MARLENA: Though I don't know for sure, I have a theory about all this. JACK: What's that? MARLENA: It's a hypothesis or guess which hasn't been proven yet. But, that's not important right now. What is important is what my theory is. BEN: What is your theory? MARLENA: I think Ben is ppearing in other people's dreams due to post-hypnotic suggestion. Either that, or an easily influenced subconscious mind. |

Very funny dialogue, André DiMera! Great story! I love how JJ is getting his comeuppance finally. And I love Teresa/Jeannie being ISA-in-training. That's what I want to see on air. Looking forward to finding out why everyone is dreaming about This Man. I just hope I don't start having dreams about him. |
