THE NEXT DAY, CARRIE’S HOSPITAL BED
Carrie opens her eyes and the first thing she notices is Rafe sleeping in the chair next to her bed. He is snoring and she smiles sweetly at him. She sees that she is hooked up to many different machines, but she can’t tell what they are. She starts to feel panicked. What happened? Why is she in the hospital? As if sensing the shift in her mood, Rafe wakes quickly and moves to her.
RAFE: You’re awake.
CARRIE: What am I doing here?
RAFE: You had a car accident. A tire blew and the car rolled. You were thrown from the car.
CARRIE: (Searches his eyes) The baby?
RAFE: (Smiles) The baby’s fine. (Gestures to a monitor) That one over there is its heartbeat – steady and strong.
CARRIE: (Tears up) Why are you here? How did you know I was here?
RAFE: I was in the Town Square hoping to run into you when Marlena happened by. She got the call from Roman while I was standing there and I haven’t left your side since.
CARRIE: You haven’t?
RAFE: (Smiles) Of course not.
CARRIE: What about Sami?
RAFE: (Hesitates ever so slightly) Sami….isn’t my concern anymore.
CARRIE: Oh right. Will said she slept with EJ?
RAFE: (Anger flashes in his eyes) Like I said, she isn’t my concern anymore. Only you and that baby.
CARRIE: (Instinctively touches her belly) And you’re sure the baby is ok?
RAFE: Daniel swears up and down the baby is fine. I made him run every test he could think of and everything came back perfect.
CARRIE: (Visibly relieved) Good.
RAFE: Roman and Marlena are outside. Do you want me to go get them?
CARRIE: In a second. I’d like a little longer with you.
RAFE: Honey, I’m not going anywhere ever again. You are stuck with me for the rest of your life.
CARRIE: (Smiles) Good, but I have something to say to you. Something I need you to hear.
RAFE: What is it?
CARRIE: I told you in Chicago that I needed to put my sister’s needs ahead of my own. Well, now I have to put my child’s needs before mine. (Rafe pales) Fortunately for me, the baby’s needs mirror my own. I need you. WE need you. You are everything I’ve been waiting for and you make my life complete. These last four months without you have been miserable for me and I want you to know that I never want to live another day without you. As soon as we can, I’d like to get married. So, will you marry me, Mr. Rafe Hernandez?
RAFE: (Grips her hand tightly) Nothing would give me greater pleasure than being your husband. I love you so much, Carrie. (Kisses her gently)
CARRIE: I love you too. Go ahead and get Marlena and Roman. I’d like to share the good news with them.
FOUR AND A HALF MONTHS LATER
DANIEL: PUSH!! PUSH!!
RAFE: You can do it, honey. Just keep pushing.
CARRIE: I am pushing, honey! It’s your fault I’m in this mess to begin with!
DANIEL: (Looks at Rafe) Don’t worry. They always say that.
RAFE: Um, I’m sorry, honey. But you’re almost there. Just push a little bit more.
CARRIE: AAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
With a final push, the baby is born. Daniel takes great care to lay her gently on Carrie’s chest.
DANIEL: Congratulations. It’s a girl.
RAFE: (Tears in his eyes) A girl?
CARRIE: (Crying and smiling) A girl? Oh, that’s wonderful.
RAFE: But what will we call her?
CARRIE: Well, I was thinking, if we had a girl, we could name her after our mothers. How about Anna Louisa?
RAFE: Anna Louisa Hernandez. That sounds beautiful.
CARRIE: Anna Louisa.
RAFE: You did good, Mrs. Hernandez.
CARRIE: You too, Mr. Hernandez. I love you.
RAFE: I love you too.

It was a perfect ending, DD and just the one I wanted. The baby's name is absolutely beautiful. I look forward for you to pen a story of this little trio and their blending into the Brady family circle...should have some fireworks! Love your work, DD! |

LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So glad that Lucas and Sami are back together - they are so much better together then either one is apart!! Also happy that Carrie and Rafe got their happy ending!! Can't wait for more from you!
