Poor Rafe sitting in the square all day waiting. It's good he was there when Marlena got the call.

Looking forward to seeing how this is going to wrap up, but sad that it's ending soon.

HOSPITAL

RAFE: (Yelling at receptionist) Carrie Reed. I need to know what room she’s in.
RECEPTIONIST: Are you family, sir?
RAFE: Yes, dammit! What room?!
RECEPTIONIST: (Annoyed, taps some keys on the computer) It looks like she’s in room 316. Sir, you need to (Looks up, he’s gone)... Whatever, jerk.

OUTSIDE ROOM 316
Just as Rafe is running up to the room, Marlena hot on his heels, Daniel walks out.

RAFE: (Grabs Daniel by the lapels) How is she?
DANIEL: (Slowly removes Rafe’s hands from his jacket) She’s stable, but still… unconscious.
RAFE: Sorry man.
MARLENA: Daniel, how’s the baby?
DANIEL: Ok for now. But the heartbeat has been getting… slower. We’re a little concerned, but we’re… keeping a close eye on it.
RAFE: (Sinks into a chair) She can’t lose this baby.
DANIEL: We’re going to do everything we can… to make sure that doesn’t happen. If you’ll excuse me.
MARLENA: (Sits next to Rafe) She’ll be ok.
RAFE: (Starts to cry softly) She has to be. I can’t lose her. (Looks at Marlena) Wait. Why are you sitting here with me? Aren’t you wondering why I’m talking about my wife’s sister like this?
MARLENA: (Smiles tenderly) I can see what’s going on here. Don’t you worry about me.
SAMI: (Appears suddenly) Maybe you should be worried about me.
RAFE: Sami. (Wearily) Not now.
MARLENA: Sami. Now is really not a good time.
SAMI: (Angrily) Why not, Mother? Why is this not a good time?
MARLENA: Because your sister is lying in a coma.
SAMI: I know. I put her there.
RAFE: (Ice cold) You what?
SAMI: I put a nail under her tire after I saw you kissing her! You bastard!
RAFE: (Stands slowly) Sami, if you were a man I'd break your neck for that. As it is, I'll thank you to shut your stupid mouth.
SAMI: I’m stupid? I saw you kissing my SISTER!
RAFE: (Shouts) And I love her!
SAMI: (Quietly) You love her?
MARLENA: Maybe we should take this somewhere else.
RAFE: (To Marlena) No. I’m done with her. (To Sami) Your sister and I have been in love for months. She was the one that refused to hurt you again and SHE was the one that put YOU above herself. I was ready to leave you months ago. Face it, Sami. We aren’t right for each other. That’s the real reason you slept with EJ. Deep down you know it’s true. We were both, unconsciously, looking for a way out. Well, I found mine and I’m taking it. I’m going in there now to see Carrie. You had better not be here when I come out.
SAMI: (Sputters) But……
RAFE: No. You need to leave.
SAMI: (Angry again) Fine. But you will live to regret this. (Storms off)
RAFE: (Under his breath) Bring it, bitch.

Ooooh!!! Sounds like this is DEFINATELY the beginning of a really good story - not an end to one

OMG, I can't believe Sami admitted complicity. Someone call the police. Oh wait. Sami is related to the police department. Poor Rafe. I hope Daniel doesn't fall in love with Carrie now that she's his patient. I like your Marlena far better than the TV one.

Great chapter DD. I am shocked that Sami admitted her part in the accident. I'm glad to see Rafe admit to Sami that they aren't right for each other and that he wanted to leave her months ago. I can hardly wait to see what happens next.

ROOM 316, AROUND 3AM

Carrie lies motionless in her hospital bed. The heart monitor beeps rhythmically. The baby monitor also shows a steady heartbeat, although it is a little slow. Rafe refuses to leave her side. Various doctors and nurses come in periodically, but they offer little information. It’s always just “We’ll have to wait and see. We just don’t know what will happen.”

Rafe sits by the bed, holding Carrie’s hand. His head is down, his forehead resting on the bed.

RAFE: (Whispers) Oh Carrie. You have to wake up. Please, please wake up.
MARLENA: (Walks in) How are you holding up?
RAFE: (Wipes away tears he wasn’t aware he was crying) Me? I’m fine. She’s the one to be concerned about.
MARLENA: Has there been any change in her condition?
RAFE: No. Daniel has been in and out all night but all he ever does is look at the monitors, frown, and then walk out. (Shrugs) They won’t tell me anything.
MARLENA: Why don’t you go get some coffee or a change of clothes or something?
RAFE: (Grips Carrie’s hand tighter) No. I won’t leave her.
MARLENA: Alright. If you need anything, I’m right outside.
RAFE: Thank you. (Marlena leaves) Ok now. This has gone on long enough. You need to wake up, young lady. We have to go dancing. Remember when we danced at Miss Millie’s? I can’t remember having a better time in all of my life. And Chicago? You were amazing in Chicago. I want you to know that I will never regret what happened there. Ever. You are the one I’m meant to be with. This baby represents that. I will never give up on you and I will never leave you. Borrowing from that movie, “You complete me.” So I’ll sit here and just wait for you. I don’t care how long it takes. I love you.
Suddenly the monitors start beeping like crazy. Daniel comes running in.
RAFE: What is it? What’s going on?
DANIEL: It’s her heart monitor. Her pulse is dropping. The baby’s heartbeat is dropping too.
RAFE: Do something!
DANIEL: I’m trying! Please, go wait outside.
RAFE: Just save her, ok? (Goes to waiting room)
ROMAN: How is she?
RAFE: I don’t know. Her pulse was dropping and the baby’s heartbeat was slowing down.
MARLENA: I’m sure she’ll be ok.
RAFE: She has to be.

OK, this Rafe & Carrie should be together especially with their baby involved. Rafe needs to be a real Dad!! So with that, I hope Marlena is right and they get better after all Dr Dan is to the rescue!!
