HOSPITAL, ER DEPARTMENT
DANIEL: Bring her in!
EJ: (Gently lays Carrie on the gurney) Will she be ok?
DANIEL: I can’t tell yet. Please, let me do my job. (Turns to a nurse) Get me a CBC Chem 7, a CAT scan and an MRI. STAT! Hand me that ultrasound machine. I’ll check for internal bleeding.
EJ: She was thrown pretty far from the car.
DANIEL: (Turns to EJ) Listen. I’m sure the family will be… grateful that you brought her in. But there’s… really nothing you can do now. Please… go wait outside.
EJ: (Holds up his hands) Whatever you say Doc. (Leaves)
There is a loud commotion outside the ER room.
ROMAN: Where is my daughter? I need to see my daughter!
EJ: She’s in the back. Daniel’s with her now.
ROMAN: What ‘da hell happened? And why are YOU talking to me about it?
EJ: Ahh, Commissioner Brady. I was on my way out of town when I came upon her overturned car. I brought her in.
ROMAN: Well, thank you Mr. Mayor.
EJ: My pleasure, Commissioner. Now if you’ll excuse me. (Walks away)
ROMAN: (Watches EJ walk away) That son of a…..
SAMI: Daddy! What are you doing here?
ROMAN: Honey! What are YOU doing here?
SAMI: I, uh, had to pick up some medication for Johnny. He’s been cancer free for a little over a year, but he still has to take some meds.
ROMAN: (Flatly) Well, that’s good honey.
SAMI: But you didn’t answer me. Why are you here?
ROMAN: It’s about your sister. She’s been in an accident.
SAMI: (Suppresses her smile, manages to look concerned) Carrie? Oh god. What happened?
ROMAN: We aren’t sure. She was apparently in a car accident. EJ brought her in.
SAMI: (Confused) EJ? Why EJ?
ROMAN: I don’t know. We’re still trying to figure everything out. I’ve got to call your mother. (Kisses her on the cheek) I’ll be right back, sweetheart.
HORTON TOWN SQUARE
Rafe has been sitting on the couch for an hour, waiting for Carrie to walk by. He is just about to give up when he spots Marlena. He decides to take a chance.
RAFE: Hey, Marlena.
MARLENA: (Smiles broadly) Rafe. How are you?
RAFE: (Rubs his neck) Um, ok, I guess. It’s been a rough day.
MARLENA: I’ll bet. Listen… (Phone rings). Oops. Excuse me. It’s Roman, I need to take it. (Answers phone) Hello? Hi, Roman. How are you? (Pauses, smile disappears) Oh my god. (Looks at Rafe, grabs his arm) What happened? (Listens) Yes, yes, of course. I’ll be there right away. Thank you for calling.
RAFE: What? What is it?
MARLENA: It’s Carrie. She’s been in a car accident. She’s at the hospital, unconscious.
RAFE: (Pales) Oh god. Oh god. The baby. (Grabs Marlena’s shoulders) What about the baby?
MARLENA: I don’t know yet. Roman didn’t mention it.
RAFE: I have to get to the hospital.
AUTHOR'S NOTE: Tune in next week for the (hopefully) satisfying conclusion to the Carrie/Rafe saga.

It must be cliffhanger Friday! I'm glad Sami was able to contain her smile in front of Roman. I'm glad Rafe was with Marlena when Roman called. I'm eager to read the final chapters of the saga.
