That was a sweet scene. I'm glad Parker seems to be handling things well and that Chloe is sticking to her decision to talk to Mary.

Soo sweet, such a feel good chapter
2 lines stood out to me
“ you could talk to me” interesting, i think thats why im irked by chloe’s dependency on mary now. She still is a gatekeeper between philip and chloe. Might be what philip feels too ?
“Pop up appears asking to rate the call”( im paraphrasing) That was 5 star quality call which lifted his spirits after such a trying day

I'm glad Philip got to FaceTime with Parker and Chloe. He needed to talk to them after one of the longest days of his life.

Chapter 13
Victor’s family gathered around a large rectangular table in one of the hospital’s conference rooms. Maggie rested her elbows on the table and clasped her hands near her mouth, as if she was praying. Justin drummed his finger on his briefcase which he set on the table in front of him. Shawn was texting someone on his phone, and Philip stood looking out the window at the far end of the room.
When the door opened, all eyes turned expectantly. Daniel came in by himself and nodded at everyone as he took a seat next to Maggie. He looked at Philip and said, “It’s good you came.”
“That’s what everyone keeps telling me. I didn’t know you were one of Dad’s doctors. I guess I should have realized that.”
“I’m not. I’m sitting in on this meeting for Mom so I can help interpret and advise.”
Philip merely nodded. The door opened again and three doctors filed in. Philip took a seat.
“Mrs. Kiriakis,” one of the doctors said in greeting Maggie.
“Hello, Dr. Hutchinson,” she replied.
He looked around the room and said, “I’m Dr. Hutchinson, the lead doctor on Mr. Kiriakis’ case. This is Dr. Maxwell, our chief vascular neurologist, and this is Dr. Chang, neuro radiologist.”
Maggie said, “These gentlemen are Victor’s family.” She pointed to each man as she introduced them. “Justin is Victor’s nephew and our family attorney. Shawn is Victor’s grandson. Philip is Victor’s son. And you know Daniel, of course.”
Dr. Hutchinson looked around the room and his eyes fell on Philip as he said, “It’s good you’re here.”
~~~
Following the meeting, Maggie grasped Daniel’s arm and held it. “What do you think, honey? What’s your opinion,” Maggie asked her son after the other doctors had left the conference room.
Philip dug his fingernails into the cushioned arm rests. He didn’t need Daniel to interpret. The doctors had essentially said that Victor was in a state of profound unresponsiveness and there’s nothing more they can do.
“Well, the good news is, the patient is stable,” Daniel told her. “His organs are sound for a patient his age.”
Through clenched teeth, Philip said, “He’s not just a patient.”
“Of course he’s not. I didn’t mean it that way.” Facing Maggie again, Daniel added, “The machines are keeping him stable for now and those are all positives.”
Shawn leaned forward. “And the negatives?”
Daniel sighed. “The bad news … the bad news is there’s not a lot of brain activity, he’s unresponsive and he’s partially paralyzed. But you all already knew that.” Maggie’s lip quivered and her voice was shaky when she said, “They’re not suggesting hospice, are they?”
“No,” Daniel replied, “they’re not. Victor isn’t necessarily in an end-of-life situation. He could continue to live for some time, but he won’t have any quality of life.”
Philip and Justin exchanged glances, both of them well aware that Victor would not live for years. Or even months, according to his health care directive.
Maggie gasped. “You’re not suggesting—“
Daniel didn’t wait for her to finish her question. “What the doctors … what they are suggesting is that Victor could benefit from a long-term care facility. They specialize in cases like these and can keep him comfortable, and—”
Philip felt anger rising in his chest. “Why doesn’t someone ask my opinion?” Philip blurted.
Daniel slowly turned his head toward Philip. “Come again?”
“I’m his son, dammit! And I’m sitting here in this room too in case you didn’t notice.” So much for keeping his anger in check. “Hell, everyone says it’s good I’m here. I may not be a doctor but I have an opinion too.”
Maggie gently said, “What’s your opinion, Philip?”
“He squeezed my hand.”
Daniel’s brow knit. “Sorry?”
“My father. He squeezed my hand,” Philip repeated. “That means he’s in there. The Victor we all know is still in there. And please don’t tell me it was an involuntary reaction.”
“That’s probably what it was,” Daniel said without emotion. Philip looked up at the ceiling. Then he leveled his eyes at Maggie. “I don’t like the idea of a long-term care facility. They don’t know him. They don’t care about him the way we do. He’ll be just another patient there.” He drew a deep breath to try and calm himself. “Look Maggie, it’s up to you, but why not try bringing him home?”
“Home? But Daniel says he’s in no shape—”
“I heard. But we can hire doctors and nurses who’ll provide at-home care around the clock.” Maggie nervously played with the strand of pearls around her neck as Philip continued. “At least that way, we’ll know he’s getting the best possible care in familiar surroundings and we can see him as often as we want. He’ll get the respect and dignity he deserves and—” Philip cleared his throat. “He won’t be forgotten.” Philip held his breath waiting for a reaction. Finally, Maggie said, “I think that’s a wonderful idea. Daniel?”
“That sounds like a reasonable solution," Daniel replied. "I can make a few calls and line up some health care providers.”
Philip finally exhaled.
Man, literally everyone is saying some variation of “it’s good you’re here”. Philip’s idea is interesting. Hopefully it’ll work out the way he thinks it will.
I think Philip is too emotional to think clearly. Who wouldn't be in this situation? But his rivalry with Daniel is also getting in the way of his judgment.
I’m actually ok with what Philip said Doctors don’t know everything as I can honestly say we’ve had to deal with their nonsense and paid for it big time and his suggestions weren’t unreasonable even if it’s the end for him which I still hope it’s not at least he will have a bit of dignity in his own home with the people he loves
I don't think there is anything unreasonable about Philip's suggestion at all. They have the money and the means to give Victor whatever he may need at any time. And Philip is correct. At home, Victor won't be just another patient, he won't potentially be subjected to someone who might look to cause him harm or neglect him. I know not all long term facilities are bad, but you just never know.
The best place for Victor is at home with his family. As mentioned, they can afford the best to take care of him and knowing Victor he would much rather be at home than in a facility.
I agree with Philip that Victor should be at home rather than a long term care facility. They have plenty of money to pay for Victor to have the care he needs. I think his chance of recovering is better with his family.
I understand Philip's annoyance with Daniel. Daniel wasn't showing concern as Victor's godson. He was speaking like a doctor talking about a random patient.
Philip would not give up, victor squeezed his hand. Thats all he needs to fuel him through it all. Must be suffocating for philip, its home but it not home.. i think he needs his small family with him.
Chapter 14
After meeting with Victor’s health care team, Philip stopped into the office before going back to the mansion. He had something distasteful he needed to get over with.
Using two knuckles, he knocked on the open door to the office of Naran Dayal, Titan’s Chief Information Officer. “Naran? I’m Philip Kiriakis.”
Naran came from behind his desk to shake Philip’s hand. “We finally meet. I have heard a lot about you.”
“That goes both ways,” Philip replied. He walked over to the window on the far side of the office. “This used to be my office when I worked in Salem.”
“You are in Chicago now?”
Philip turned to face Naran. “I’m actually going to be working here in Salem until further notice.”
“Due to your father’s illness.”
“Correct.” He took a deep breath. “I hate to do this, but I’m going to need this office. I spoke to Office Services and there’s a great space on the other side of this floor.”
“Why don’t you use your father’s office?” the CIO asked.
“Can’t.” He cleared his throat. “Dad will need it when he comes back,” Philip said, wondering if he sounded insane. “I’m sorry to do this to you, but—”
Naran held up his palms. “No apology needed. It is only a physical spot. I can work anywhere. This office is most practical for you as it is closest to the CEO’s office and shares an administrative assistant,” Naran reasoned. “When is the move scheduled?”
“Tomorrow, if that’s all right with you.”
“That sounds fine.”
“Thank you for understanding, Naran.”
Naran started to walk out of the office. “I’ll go take a look at my new office.”
“It’s number twelve eleven.” Philip held his hand out to Naran. “Thanks again.”
As he shook Philip’s hand, Naran said, “I am praying for your father’s recovery.”
~~~
After speaking to Naran, Philip went down the hall and stopped into Justin’s office. He knocked twice on the open door. “So, tonight?”
Justin looked up from his computer and nodded. “Tonight. We need to tell Maggie about Victor’s health directive tonight. Um Philip. Maybe we should ask Daniel to be there when we tell her.”
Philip nodded. “Agree. I’ll give him a call.” He started to leave and then remembered something. “Oh, tomorrow, let’s you and me talk about the annual shareholders meeting. I’ve got a lot of catching up to do if we’re going to make our deadlines.”
“You got it,” Justin said.
Philip walked from Justin’s office to the conference room he’d been using on the 12th floor. There was an oversized carton on the floor near his chair. Squatting near the carton, he took a key from his pocket and ran it along the tape to break the seal. When he pulled the flaps open, he saw a familiar suitcase. Wow, that was fast. It was only yesterday that he asked Chloe to pack up and send some of his suits. He smiled when he picked up the handmade note resting on top of the suitcase. It was covered with hearts and the words, “We love you. -Chloe & Parker.”
Rising to his feet, Philip punched some keys on his phone to send Chloe a text. “Suits arrived. TY 4 sending so fast.”
