Chapter 505b

Melanie quickly got up from the sofa and walked over to Nicole. “Are you happy now?” she asked bitterly.

“With Holly’s inheritance? I am,” Nicole replied. But Melanie’s anger was palpable. “Come on, Kitten.”

“Don’t call me that,” Melanie barked. “It was my father’s special pet name for me and you don’t get to use it.”

“Sorry,” Nicole stated with false exaggeration. “Melanie, look, if you had a child and you were in my situation, you’d do the exact same thing I did.”

“Oh I don’t believe for one minute that you did this for Holly.”

Nicole’s brow knit. “You think I did this for me? The money is in a trust. I can’t touch it, except for Holly’s benefit. She’s going to need schooling and—“

“Give me a break,” Melanie blurted. “You live in the Kiriakis mansion.” She held out her arms to indicate their surroundings. “My grandmother will always take care of her granddaughter and make sure she goes to the best schools. You did this because you dislike me!”

“Wow! You give yourself a lot of power over me, don’t you?” Nicole observed. “Okay, I admit you’re far from my favorite person but I would never deny you your inheritance from your father. If I didn’t have Holly, I wouldn’t have cared who inherited Daniel’s estate.”

“Bull. I’ve heard you say you were essentially his wife. You would have tried to get all his money for yourself.”

Melanie seems to forget that Holly is her sister
She’s really acting like a spoiled child
I don’t know why Nicole even bothers arguing with a lunatic, anyone watching might not be able to tell the difference

Glad Nicole’s defending herself. Does Melanie think she should be the only one who inherited anything from Daniel or something?

Chapter 505c

“Bull. I’ve heard you say you were essentially his wife,” Melanie spat. “You would have tried to get all his money for yourself.”

Maggie told Justin, “It’s a relief to have that over with. I’m glad it’s done and the right people received an inheritance.”

“Melanie doesn’t seem to think so,” Philip observed, cocking his head toward Melanie and Nicole.

“Nothing she can do about it except complain,” Justin commented. “The time to dispute the will has passed.” He turned toward Maggie. “I hope you’re not disappointed that you weren’t in the will. Daniel didn’t know you were his mother at the time he executed the will.”

“Not disappointed at all,” Maggie replied. “Children don’t usually leave their parents anything in a will. A parent should never outlive their child.” Maggie grew quiet for a minute, and Philip turned his eyes upward, in an effort to keep the tears welling in his own eyes from falling. Maggie finally broke the silence, forcing a smile as she asked, “Can I have Henderson bring some more tea?”

“Okay, I admit I might have done that once,” Nicole said to Melanie after the reading of Daniel’s will, “but being a mom changes everything. I’ve wanted a child of my own for as long as I can remember and Holly—” Nicole began to choke up. “I’d just about given up on that dream and now? To have a child with Daniel, the love of my life. It’s a miracle. Holly is my miracle.”

“Those are nice words, Nicole, but I’m not buying it.”

“I didn’t go after Daniel’s life insurance, did I?”

“That’s because Chloe’s your friend. She’s probably sharing the life insurance money with you.”

“I have no idea what she’s doing with the money,” Nicole swore, “and I don’t really care. Daniel named her as the sole beneficiary way back when they were still together, and he never changed it. There was no wiggle room to dispute it. I wish Daniel updated his beneficiaries at work, but he left it the way it was. Just like he left Parker in his will and I’m guessing that part was intentional. But I did have recourse to dispute the will and I took it. For Holly. Only for my little girl.”

“Right. And that’s why I’ve seen you making eyes at Philip and lining up your next sugar daddy.”

Nicole’s eyes widened. “Is that what this is all about? Philip?”

“No! Of course not,” Melanie protested loudly. “It’s about me not getting my fair share!”

Justin, Philip and Maggie looked over at Nicole and Melanie, unable to ignore the loud voices.

“Melanie!” Maggie’s tone was sharp. She approached Melanie and Nicole. Maggie nodded at Nicole. “Could you give us a minute please?”

Nicole nodded. “Have at it,” she said, walking away to join Justin and Philip.

Maggie sighed deeply before speaking. “Melanie, do you really think you were cheated of your inheritance? You were given close to a million dollars before taxes. Why are you so money hungry?”

“I’m not. I’d much rather have my dad than all the money in the world, but … I was his pumpkin. His kitten. I was his only daughter. Until now.…”

“Oh sweetheart, Holly is your sister and the poor child will never know her father. At least you did. You could cultivate a relationship with her and tell her all about him when she’s old enough to understand.” Melanie nodded and fell into Maggie’s arms. “Oh my love, I wish you could see the world in a positive light instead of being angry all the time. Maybe you should make an appointment with Marlena.”

“Maybe I should,” Melanie said against her grandmother’s shoulder.

I'm glad Maggie was there. Melanie has so much anger in her. I think a visit with a psychiatrist was a good suggestion. I don't think Marlena is necessarily the right one tho.

Melanie is behaving terribly. She's complaining about sharing the inheritance with her baby sister. It seems more appropriate to be angry that Chloe was never removed as the beneficiary of Daniel's life insurance.

Chapter 506

Hope was at her desk at work reading a case file when her phone rang. “Brady,” Hope answered automatically.

“Bad time?” Aiden asked when Hope answered the phone.

Hope sighed and her tone softened. “Sorry, I was focused on something.”

“Well, you are at work,” Aiden commented. “If this is a bad time, I can call back.”

She took her eyeglasses off and smiled. “No, it’s fine. To be honest, I can use a break.”

“A welcome break, I hope.”

“Very much so,” she admitted. “How’s your day going?”

“A little less stressful than yours, I presume. Listen, I was thinking. You’re off this Sunday, right? Do you have plans?”

“Not really,” Hope replied. “Why? What did you have in mind?”

“Something a little out of the way, actually. Have you ever been to Crystal Gardens at the Navy Pier?”

“In Chicago? I was there for my brother-in-law’s wedding last year.”

“Well, if you’ve never had Sunday brunch there, you’re in for a treat. It’s world famous. You game?”

“Sure.”

“Great. I’ll make a reservation for noon. How about I pick you up at 9 and we can walk around the Pier afterwards.”

“I’m looking forward to it,” she responded enthusiastically.

“As am I.”
