Chapter 455b
“I wanted to tell you that Chloe’s in Chicago,” Philip told Mary.
There was momentary silence on Mary’s end of the line. “From the way you phrased that, I take it you’re not with her.”
“I’m not. She left the day before Christmas.”
“Oh?”
Philip wasn’t in the mood to rehash and wished he didn’t have to, so he gave Mary the Reader’s Digest version. “Long story short, she said she couldn’t face me anymore and it was only a matter of time before I start hating her. She blames herself for the accident and everything that happened as a result.”
“I see.”
Mary’s silence always had a tendency to get Philip to open up. “Mary, I tried, but I couldn’t convince her not to leave. It was as if she couldn’t even hear me.”
“Did you call me because you want me to contact her?”
“Yes.”
“I’ll do that. Does she have the same phone number?”
“Um. As far as I know,” he answered with uncertainty. “What I do know is that she’s staying at the condo. She didn’t tell me. I heard it through the grapevine.”
“I’ll get in touch with her as soon as I can.”
“Thank you.”
“How’s Parker?”
Philip was happy for the opportunity to change the subject. “He’s the bravest kid who ever lived.”
“He’s with you?”
“Yes. And he always will be. We’re in the middle of a little road trip.”
“I’m pleased to hear it. Thank you for letting me know the situation,” she stated sincerely. “Is there any chance you’ll be passing through Chicago on your way home? I think you’d both benefit from a visit.”
“Actually, there’s a good chance. I’ll let you know when we get closer.”
“Please do,” Mary replied.
Philip pressed end call and sighed. He looked toward the bathroom. “Hey Parker, as soon as you’re finished getting ready, we’ll go out and get some breakfast.”

I'm glad Philip and Parker will see Mary.
It was good that Marry didn't take sides with the Chloe situation.

I'm glad that Mary knows where Chloe is.
Philip and Parker should definitely enjoy each other and reconnect their bond together.

Chapter 455c
At a local diner over breakfast, Parker asked his father, “When do you have to go back to work, Daddy?”
“Oh.” It was time for honesty. He set his coffee cup down and sat up straighter. “About that. I um … I don’t work at Titan anymore.”
“Huh? How can that be? It’s your company. You was ‘apposed to work there forever.”
“It was my company, you’re right. The company Grampa Victor built. But it’s not anymore. Another company … I guess you could say another company took Titan from us.”
“Took? Like stole? Can’t you get them arrested?”
Philip smiled sadly. “In this case, what they did was within the law.”
“Does that mean we’re poor?”
“No, we’re not poor kiddo. Far from it, so you never need to worry about that. We’ve got plenty of money saved and we also inherited money from Grandpa Victor. I even have money set aside for you when you grow up. So we’re never going to go hungry and we’re never going to be without a roof over our heads and warm clothes on our backs.”
Parker grew quiet and Philip said, “Tell me what you’re thinking.”
He pushed his pancakes around in the syrup before answering. “I always thought I’d work for Titan someday and run the company just like you.”
Philip is the one who put that idea in Parker’s head, before Parker ever spoke his first words. Philip used to read the Wall Street Journal to him and talk business even though Parker was too young to understand. Philip was groomed to run Titan from a young age. He never felt like he had any other choice. But Parker does.
“You’re so smart, Parker. Smarter than me when I was your age. You can be anything you want. You’ve always loved astronomy and space exploration, so if you want to be an astronaut when you grow up, you can be an astronaut. If you want to be a businessman, you can be a businessman. Or a doctor. Or a lawyer. Or a teacher. Or a chef. You have plenty of time to decide. And whatever you want to be, I’ll be here to support your decision.”
Parker slid off his seat and came around to Philip’s side of the booth and hugged his father. “It’s okay, Daddy. You’ll find another job too and I’ll support you whatever you decide you want to be.”
Philip squeezed Parker close and rested his chin on Parker’s head. “We’ll be fine Parker,” Philip said. “I’ve got a few ideas and I don’t want you worrying for even a second.”

Awwww. Parker was so sweet!! I still just want to grab him up and hug him.
Interesting that he thought he would be working at Titan. I wonder if that will be what drives Philip to fight for the company....so that Parker really does have the decision.
I'm glad Philip called Mary and that it sounds like him and Parker may be paying her a visit.

Chapter 456
Victoria Osteen entered her husband Joel’s office as he was jotting ideas for his Sunday sermon on a notepad. She sat across the desk from him but said nothing.
Without looking up, he said, “What’s up?”
“Oh I don’t want to interrupt.”
He looked at her and smiled and said good-naturedly, “Are you sure about that? Because I think you already did.” His brow knit. “You look upset. What’s on your mind?”
“I’m sorry for interrupting, dear. I can’t stop thinking about Chloe Lane, our new choral leader. Her story is so sad,” Victoria stated. “I wish there was something more I could do for her.”
“That’s what you say about every lost soul. And that’s part of the reason why I love you so much.”
Victoria smiled briefly. “Maybe we should contact her husband.”
“I think that would be overstepping our bounds,” Joel replied.
“You’re right. You’re right. She’s just in so much pain.”
“Is she attending our grief counseling group?”
“I believe she is,” Victoria replied, “but I don’t think she’s opened up at all.”
Joel came around his desk and sat on the arm of Victoria’s chair. He squeezed her shoulder. “I think we’re doing everything we can for her right now, sweetheart. We’ve given her sanctuary and the time and space to process her emotions. She knows we’re here for her if she wants to reach out.”
“Yes, but it doesn’t seem like enough, does it?”
“God helps those who help themselves. You can’t help someone who doesn’t want to be helped,” Joel reasoned. “Listen, let’s both pray on it and maybe we will come up with a better idea to help her.”

Totally agree that they’ve done what they can for Chloe. She just doesn’t want help.
