Chapter 8e
“I’ll help too,” Philip said. “Use me. What can I do?”
Chloe smiled. “You know what you could do that would help me more than anything?”
Her eyes sparkled when she looked at him, and he knew he’d do anything she asked. “Tell me.”
“Look after Parker. I’m going to be working some nights and weekends and I just don’t want to get a sitter or a nanny, not after everything that happened with Deimos.”
“Absolutely. We don’t need a sitter.” He patted his chest. “He’s got me.”
She threw her arms around him. “Thank you so much. And thank you for not giving me a hard time about all this.”
He sighed. Even if he had to swallow his pride along with his dislike for Brady, he would do it because this is clearly what she wanted. “If this makes you happy, then it’s what I want too.”
“I love you so much,” she said against his cheek.
“Music to my ears.” He kissed her lips.
“One more thing you can do for me,” she said.
“Name it.”
“Help me name this place. You had a reputation for being a marketing genius when you were running Titan. I just know you’ll come up with something fabulous.”
“Hmmm.” He walked around the club again, trying to get a better feel for it. He thought about his boat—the one that blew up, thanks to Deimos. “What do you think about Mezzo Soprano?”
Her eyes widened. “Like your boat!”
He smiled inadvertantly at the fact that she automatically connected the dots back to the name to the boat. “Like your vocal range, actually.” He wrinkled his nose. “It doesn’t quite roll off the tongue though, does it?”
“No, but I feel like we’re on the right track.”
A light bulb went on in his brain. “How about Soprano’s?”
Chloe’s lips parted. “Philip, I love that! I knew you’d come up with the perfect name!”
“You’re perfect.” He pulled her close again. “So, how long until the grand opening?”
It pleased her that Philip was getting excited about the venture. “Brady estimates three to four months.”
Philip’s stomach turned. Brady planned to be in Chloe’s orbit, to get close to her for the next four months. He hated that idea. Pushing the venom aside, he tried to keep his tone light. “Sounds ambitious.”
“Maybe a little.” Her phone beeped and Chloe checked the time on her phone. “Oh. It’s 2:30. We’d better head over to the school to pick up Parker.” She sighed heavily. “I just hope he’ll be okay. His emotional health is way more important than anything else that’s going on.”
Philip stroked her hair. “Want me to come with you to his appointment tomorrow?” he asked.
She shook her head. “No, I can handle it. But maybe you can help me explain to Parker about the appointment?”
“Of course.”

Glad Philip is trying to be helpful, even if he (like myself) is suspicious of Brady.

Glad Chloe is giving him some say/insight into the club. Maybe it will help ease some of this. It won't fix it but it's progress.
Still not certain about Brady......

I like that Philip named it Hopefully brady doesn’t high jack the name and replace it with something stupid He is trying to come between them that much is clear, the reason for it is what’s yet to be revealed My guesses are Nicole dumped him for Eric and he’s selfish enough to go after Philips girl cuz he can’t be alone or victor put him up to it Or both That’s my guess anyways

I'm glad that Philip is being supportive and helpful despite his misgivings.

Philip is being cautiously supportive...which is probably all he can do right now. I just don’t understand why no one has pressed Brady about Nicole.

I'm glad Philip is being supportive. Hope nobody thinks the restaurant has something to do with the TV show The Sopranos. LOL
I hope Parker is okay.

Chapter 9a
Chloe was seated on the sofa next to Philip. She briefly squeezed his hand for courage before speaking. “Parker, angel, after school tomorrow, I’m going to take you to meet this lady. She wants to talk to you.”
Sitting on floor, the boy’s brow knit as he looked from Chloe to Philip and back to Chloe. “‘Bout what?”
“About anything you want, really,” she told him, trying to keep her tone light.
“Why?”
“Well, because sometimes it’s easier to talk about your deep-down feelings to someone you don’t know than it is to talk to your parents.” She waved her hand toward Philip and herself. “You can be honest with this lady.”
He was quiet for minute. “But … Are you gonna leave me with her?”
“No, I’ll stay,” Chloe told him. “I’ll just be the next room so you can have some privacy, unless you want me to stay in the room with you.”
His lip began to quiver. “I mean, are you gonna give me away, like ‘dopt me out.”
Chloe gasped. “Adopt you out?? No, never, where did you get such an idea?”
“I dunno. You’re getting a new job, and now you want me to see a strange lady. Maybe you’re too busy to keep me.”
Tears welled in Chloe’s eyes. “Oh angel, don’t ever think that.” She scooped Parker onto her lap. “I’m not letting you go until you’re ready to get married, and maybe not even then.”
Philip stifled a laugh. “You channeling Kate?”
Chloe scowled. “That’s not funny.”
He shrugged. “Sorry.” Philip turned his attention to the boy. “Parker, look at me.” Philip touched the child’s chin. “We’re never too busy for you. You’re the most important thing in our lives.” He glanced at Chloe and she nodded.
“That’s the truth,” she said.
“This lady you’re going to meet tomorrow,” Philip continued, “Her name is Gwen and she’s a friend of mine. She works with little kids like you a lot. We just think that if there’s something bothering you, she can help. Okay?”
“I guess. Can I go upstairs and watch Wonder Pets now?”
“Sure,” Chloe told him. “We’ll call you down when dinner’s ready.”
Parker slid off Chloe’s lap and ran upstairs. Chloe sighed deeply. “That went well,” she said sarcastically.

Wonder where Parker got that idea. Glad Philip and Chloe told him that that’s not the case.

Maybe Parker has a friend at school who was adopted? Maybe that’s why he thought that?

Awww. Poor Parker. He's had so much happen to him in his short little life that now he's walking around waiting for the other shoe to drop. I hope Gwen can help him.

I thought the Kate comment was funny.
Poor Parker. He's been through a lot. I hope Gwen can help him.

Glad Philip can laugh about Kate...but let’s be honest...he needs therapy as much or more than Parker.

Chapter 9b
Chloe rested her head on her fist as she stroked Philip’s chest. He was lying flat on his back. It was around midnight and making love had only served to stimulate them tonight, instead of making them sleepy.
“You know, that was some good deductive reasoning on Parker’s part,” he said quietly, so as not to wake Parker in the next room. “His reasoning was wrong, but still.”
“What do you mean?”
“The way he put two and two together. You getting a job. His appointment with Gwen. He thinks they’re related.”
“But they’re not.”
“No they’re not. But he’s thinking, trying to connect the dots. I just think it’s pretty impressive logic for a six year old.” Chloe leaned over and kissed his lips. He rested his hand on her back. “What was that for,” he asked.
“I sometimes wonder what it would be like if I was involved with someone else, someone who didn’t have our history.”
“And how often do you think about this?” he asked jokingly.
“I mean, you care so much about Parker. No one else besides a father would give a child as much thought as you do about Parker.”
“You know the reason,” he said matter-of-factly. “I’ve loved Parker since the day he was born, even before he was born, when we thought there was a chance I might be his father.”
“That’s just it. You’ve been through so much where he’s concerned. When I found out I was pregnant, I thought the baby might be yours.”
“You were engaged to Daniel and I was married to Melanie,” he recalled, “and if the baby was mine, it would have made everything so complicated.” He paused for a second. “Hell, it did complicate everything. It ultimately broke up both our marriages.”
“Still, even with all the switches, you never wavered in your devotion to Parker.”
“None of that was his fault. Besides, he may not be mine biologically, but I think of him as my son.”
“So do I,” Chloe said.
“You do?”
“Yes, of course. Maybe it’s because his real father can’t be in his life anymore, but when I see the two of you together, the connection is plain to see. There’s something so natural between you.” Philip smiled. “He’s crazy about you too, you know,” she said. “And I just want to say thank you.”
“That’s not something you ever need to thank me for.”
“I know I don’t have to, but I want to, okay?”
Philip pulled Chloe to him and kissed her. “If you insist,” he whispered.

I’m glad Chloe sees their relationship and appreciates it for what it is It’s a classic example of how the word “stepfather” isn’t always necessary Any two people can make a child biologically but it takes a mother and father to raise the child and genetics sometimes has nothing to do with it
