Chapter 40
Chloe needed to talk to Philip and had been hoping to find him awake. Even though the guest room was completely dark, she could tell from the pattern of his breathing that he was sound asleep. She had no intention of climbing into bed with him, but once she got within ten feet, she couldn’t seem to stop herself.
He woke up with a start when Chloe climbed flush on top of him on the full-size guest bed. “Chloe!”
Shhh,” she said before pressing her lips to his. His arms folded around her in an instant as he instinctively responded to the kiss, both with his lips and an erection. Chloe moved partway out of Philip’s embrace, just enough to pull her nightgown over her head. She pressed her body against Philip’s bare chest and kissed him again.
He rolled her over and they got tangled up in the sheets. Philip laughed and pulled the sheets from between their bodies. He took the opportunity to pull off his boxers at the same time. His hands roamed her body and his lips skimmed her skin as he trailed kisses down her torso from her shoulders to her thighs.
She moaned remembering how no one knew her body as well as Philip. He always found new pleasure points she didn’t even know she had.
She crossed her legs around his back and pulled him closer as their bodies linked, moving in sync again and again until he released his passion. He rested his cheek on her chest as he caught his breath while she gently stroked the back of his neck with her fingertips.
Lifting his head, he looked into her eyes, the only things shining in the darkness of the room. “I’ve missed being this close to you,” he whispered.
“I missed you too, Philip. I love you. With all my heart.”

Hmmm. It's not that I have a problem with makeup sex...but I'd rather that Philip and Chloe had a long, long talk first. Heaven knows, they've got plenty to discuss!

That was a nice surprise for readers but it wasn't what Chloe and Philip needed to do at all.
Until they learn to communicate instead of using sex to sweep problems under the rug, I don't see a bright future for these two.

I was kind of hoping Philip and Chloe would actually talk about their problems. While it was a nice surprise, I don't think sex is going to solve the very serious long running problems they're having with their marriage. Still, it was a nice surprise to wake up to.

Until they learn to communicate instead of using sex to sweep problems under the rug, I don't see a bright future for these two. This is what I have been saying all along. Unfortunately, I'm not a bit surprised at this. So typical of these two and I'm kinda disappointed in them. Especially Philip.

I feel like Chloe was hoping to talk to Philip but he was asleep. I'm glad that Chloe told Philip she loves him. I'm always happy for a steamy chapter.

Chapter 41a
The light filtered through the blinds in the guest room. Philip woke up and tried to stretch out, but his arm was pinned under something and it had lost all feeling. He smiled as he looked at Chloe asleep in his arms. This small bed had plenty of advantages, but also some disadvantages. It was barely big enough for two people. He leaned in and kissed her bare shoulder, hoping to get her to move over a little.
Her eyes fluttered open and she smiled at him. Her smile quickly faded and her heart clenched once the cob webs cleared. She sat straight up. “Oh my god, Philip. I didn’t come here last night to make love to you.” When Philip raised an eyebrow, she rested her hand on his bare chest and added, “I mean that wasn’t the primary reason. But once I got within ten feet of you, it was unstoppable.”
“I’ll say!" He kissed her arm. "So, what was the primary reason?”
“To beg your forgiveness. I owe you the biggest apology ever.”
He sat up and leaned against the headboard next to Chloe. “For what?”
She pulled the blanket around her. “I think you know ‘for what.’ For being an irrational bitch, starting with the cab ride back from vacation when I found out we weren’t really married and our wedding was only ceremonial.”
Philip smirked. “Who could blame you? Most women are crushed when they find out they’re not married to me.”
“I’m being serious,” she said, undeterred by Philip’s attempt at humor. Philip was obviously in a jovial mood after last night, but Chloe knew this was too important to laugh off. “I had a right to be embarrassed and upset for a few minutes, but not to behave like a child over it. Worse than that—much, much worse—is how I blamed you for Parker’s kidnapping when it was no more your fault than mine. You didn’t know Monica was off her rocker. A little odd, maybe, but not so deluded she’d kidnap your son to get to you.”
“I disagree. Somewhere along the line, I gave her enough encouragement to—.”
“Don’t do that, Philip. And don’t let me off the hook so easily either.” She briefly touched his shoulder. “I was horrible to you when you needed me most, when we needed each other. This is the worst thing that ever happened to us, and I could make a million excuses about how I melted down and I wasn’t myself, and needed someone to blame, but those are just excuses.”
“Chloe, no one knows how they’re going to react in a situation like that.”
“Yeah. And you can count on me to be someone you can’t count on.”
“Sweetheart—.” He reached for her hand but she pulled away.
“No, Philip. I don’t deserve you and I don’t deserve your forgiveness. You’re the best person I know. Why do you even put up with me? And I swear I’m not fishing for a compliment. It’s just, well, the reason people have a life partner is to have that one person you can always count on, and I’ve proven time and time again I’m not that person.”

Chloe does seem to be more realistic and understanding about her reactions/overreactions. I hope she's not going too far the other way with this with the whole idea that Philip can't count on her. I'd like to see the two of them work through the difficult stuff that they need to address both as a couple and individuals, not just run off.

FINALLY Chloe's mea culpa. I hope she accepts Philip's forgiveness. But first Philip has to stop acting like he deserved the way she was treating him.

Well I'm glad she got out the apology for everything Is she kinda breaking up with him using the it's not you it's me speech? Maybe I'm misinterpreting it. It it sure sounds like that's where it's going I don't like that Philip just forgets everything once he got laid yes she is apologizing but he really needs to express his feelings throughout this and like she said not let her off so easy She'll never respect him if he just lets her call all the shots
