I' glad Chloe FINALLY realized that she's been alienating Philip by blaming him. I hope the lesson sticks.

Hmmm. I'm still on the fence about this. The session is going well and it's great that Chloe has come to this realization...but she's still jumping to conclusions. She's already assuming the worst and that she has ruined everything with Philip. This will not help any sort of apology that she tries to make or conversation that she tries to have with Philip. And she needs to actually SAY the words to him. She can't sugar coat it or try to coax him to bed or anything. This needs to be an adult situation with the sex taken out of it. Both of them are too quick to jump that route to try to fix their problems.

Chapter 39


When they got home that evening, they had a quick bite to eat. Then Chloe proceeded to go through Parker’s regular routine with him. Routines are important for children, Mary always says.

While Chloe bathed Parker in the hall bathroom, Philip took a shower in the master bathroom. After Chloe tucked Parker in and kissed him good night, she went into her bedroom. For some reason she was surprised Philip wasn’t in there. She peeked around the corner and checked the bathroom, but it was empty. Well, what did she expect? She’s the one who told him to sleep in the guest room. Well, sort of. He actually suggested it as a compromise between sleeping together and moving out entirely. She plopped down and sat at the foot of the bed.

She had been through a lot of horrible things in her life, and the last few days topped them all. But they were on the other side of it now. She knew it wasn’t over, not completely. There would be residual affects.

Parker couldn’t sleep without a night light anymore and he wet the bed for the first time in two years. Mary said to expect Parker to have nightmares. He’d develop fears that would seem unnatural for most kids, there would be things in his subconscious that would pop up when they least expected it. His safety net was taken away and not only because he’d been kidnapped, but because he thought his mother died. He thought he didn’t have a home anymore, which is why he didn’t tell the kid on the bike to take him home.

They’d manage, Chloe swore to herself. They’d get through it together.

She looked up with tears in her eyes and said a silent prayer thanking God for bringing Parker back safely. She had said so many prayers these last few days, but she made no deals with God for Parker’s safe return. She learned her lesson after promising to marry Lucas in exchange for his recovery. You can’t make deals with God. But what you can do is honor him, and honor the people in your life by treating them with love and respect, the way God intended.

She got up and slid open a dresser drawer. She took out a nightgown and began to change out of her clothes.

Well....so far, so good. Chloe seems to be reacting reasonably. But will she still be reasonable when she and Philip talk things over? And how will Philip react?

I hope Chloe is going to seek out and talk to Philip sooner rather than later. The more she puts it off, the more she's going to assume things are over between them and be likely to handle it badly when she does see him.

Is he giving her space? Or is what George said sinking in and maybe he's getting resentful ?

Poor Parker. I hope these fears subside for him soon. It's so tough to watch a child deal with issues they shouldn't have to. It's absolutely heartbreaking because you can't take it completely away for them.

Chloe has put so much emphasis on space and not wanting to see/acknowledge Philip that she shouldn't be surprised when he's not there. How long does she think that she can push him away before he finally gives up?

I semi-understand after everything that happened to Parker that Parker would be the priority and majority of attention. But, no one is to blame for what happened to Parker except for Monica. However, Chloe is to blame for the distance between them. She does this every time things don't work out according to "her plan" and she can't keep expecting Philip to make the first move to make things right. She needs to acknowledge all of this to Philip face to face. She needs to say the words to him, not send him a cookie, not leave notes lying around, not just going through the motions. She needs to be as brutally honest and up front with him as she can be regardless of what she thinks he will say or how he will react........and he needs to let her say what she's going to say and then he needs to be that way with her. That is the ONLY way that I see any hope of them coming through this ordeal as an in-tact family.

I hope Chloe talks to Philip tonight. The longer she waits it may get harder for her.
