Chapter 169
KIRIAKIS MANSION
PHILIP: There's some stuff she and I really need to discuss. So, can I have her number?
T.K.: Well...actually...she lost her phone.
PHILIP: She lost her phone?
T.K.: Yeah.
PHILIP: I thought that was her you were talking to a little bit ago.
T.K.: It was. She was using a pay phone.
PHILIP: A pay phone?
T.K. nodded.
T.K.: Yeah.
PHILIP: All right. Well, when she gets a new number, let me know.
T.K.: Yeah, for sure. So, anyway, you said you and I were gonna go shoot some hoops, or something.
PHILIP: Yeah, that sounds good. Just let me get changed.
T.K.: I'll be here.
Philip went upstairs.
MARQUETTE GENERAL HOSPITAL – MARQUETTE, MICHIGAN
DAVID: You cannot be serious.
JULIE: Well, the doctors did say that you need somebody to stay with you until your leg heals.
DAVID: Yeah, to stay with me. As in up here.
JULIE: Well, Doug and I are running a bed and breakfast, and Scotty's working at the hospital. So, unless Trish or Valerie Grant are still around...
DAVID: Oh come on, mother! You know I haven't talked to Trish since the wedding! And I haven't seen Valerie since the '80s!
JULIE: Well, then it's settled.
DAVID: It most certainly is not! Look, don't get me wrong, Salem is a nice little town, but it's not my kinda place.
JULIE: And what's wrong with it?
DAVID: It's just...there's too many memories there. Not all of them good.
JULIE: Not all, but surely some of them are.
DOUG: Look, at the end of the day, it is David's decision.
DAVID: Yes, some are, admittedly.
JULIE: Then I don't see the issue. Who else is gonna come up here and take care of you?
SCOTTY: I will.
JULIE: What?
DAVID: Scott, come on...
SCOTTY: Dad, you need someone to stay with you. I can do that.
DAVID: No, I don't want you giving up your job at the hospital just to come up here.
SCOTTY: There are hospitals everywhere. We're in a hospital. I can get a job at just about any hospital around here.
DAVID: No, Scott. It's not that simple. Besides, the work you're doing with Uncle Tommy and whoever else works there is important.
SCOTTY: And you're my father. You're important, too.
JULIE: Scotty, listen to your father. You are not going to just drop your whole career to come up here.
David sighed, and rubbed his face with his hands.
DAVID: He won't have to.
SCOTTY: What?
DAVID: I have a feeling I'm gonna regret this in the long run, but...fine, I'll come to Salem with you.
JULIE: Oh, thank god. He finally sees sense!
DAVID: Temporarily.
SCOTTY: You can stay with me, if you want, Dad.
DAVID: Yeah, that's fine. But once I'm all healed up, I'm heading back up here.
SCOTTY: That's fine. I just want to make sure you're getting the best care possible.
DAVID: I know. And I appreciate that, son.
Gently, Scotty and David hugged.
JULIE: Well, I'm glad you're coming as well. David, you do know that the only reason I'm so hard on you is because I care, and because I know that you're capable of doing so much more with your life than what you've been doing.
DAVID: Yeah. I know, mother. I know.
