SALEM UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL
KAYLA: Yes, of course. I completely understand.
Kayla sat in her office, talking on the phone.
KAYLA: Look, don’t worry about that, just take some time to figure things out. You’ve got more than enough stocked up. If you, Sandy or anyone else in your family needs anything, please let me know. All right. And again, I’m very sorry, Bill.
HORTON HOUSE
BILL: Thank you, Kayla. You too. Bye.
Bill hung up and walked back downstairs.
MARIE: We just got off the phone with Julie. She, Lily and I have been working on arrangements. Tommy and Lily were so close, so I thought it would be a good idea to include her.
Bill nodded.
BILL: Good. Thank you for taking charge of this, Marie. I honestly don’t know what we’d do without you.
MARIE: We’re family, that’s what we do. That’s how Mom and Dad raised us. And you won’t have to worry, I’m not going anywhere.
Bill and Marie hugged.
SALEM UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL
Claire opened her eyes and shifted in her hospital bed slightly. She looked around the room, and in one corner saw a girl a few years younger than her with dark hair.
CLAIRE: Who are you?
GIRL: I could ask you the same thing.
CLAIRE: What are you doing in my room?
Claire touched her throat. It didn’t feel as rough or dry as it had the previous day, and her speech was back to normal. The girl shrugged.
GIRL: I can’t really explain it, but something told me I should be here.
Claire’s eyes narrowed.
CLAIRE: Okay…I don’t mean to be rude but I don’t even know you.
GIRL: I don’t know you either. Like I said, I don’t know why I felt the urge to come in here, but here we are.
CLAIRE: You look really familiar. Do you go to Salem University?
GIRL: Yeah, I just started there at the beginning of the school year. Maybe that’s where you know me from.
CLAIRE: Maybe.
GIRL: Though, to be honest, you look kinda like this lady my Dad used to be married to.
CLAIRE: That’s interesting. You look like this woman who was obsessed with my Dad.
GIRL: Heh. Well, you seem cooler than this lady.
CLAIRE: This lady, what’s her name?
GIRL: Belle Kiriakis.
CLAIRE: That’s my Mom. But, her last name’s not Kiriakis, it’s Brady.
The girl chuckled.
GIRL: Well, that’s a big turnaround. Last I heard she and Philip were still hot for each other.
CLAIRE: No. I know they had a relationship when I was a baby, but that was a long time ago.
GIRL: Looks like I’m a bit behind on my information, then. So, who’s this guy who took Belle’s eye off of Philip?
CLAIRE: My Dad. Shawn Brady.
The girl smirked.
GIRL: Okay, now I know you’re messing with me.
CLAIRE: I’m really not.
GIRL: Hey, it’s totally cool. It’s a funny joke, actually. But, come on, we both know Shawn Brady isn’t your father. He’s mine.
CLAIRE: What? No, as far as I know, my Dad only has one daughter, and that’s me. I’m Claire Brady.
GIRL: No, I’m Shawn and Jan Brady’s daughter. I’m Shawna Brady.
