Chapter 616
TOMMY’S HOUSE
Bill walked downstairs carrying a suitcase.
MARIE: So, you’re all packed and ready to go, then?
BILL: Yep. I’ve got everything I need.
Marie and Bill hugged.
MARIE: Good to see you again, Bill.
BILL: You too.
Tommy walked over to Bill.
BILL: I’m glad to know I was wrong about you. I’m sorry about my behavior when I first came back.
TOMMY: Oh, that’s all right. At least everything’s all cleared up now.
Bill nodded. He and Tommy hugged.
BILL: I’ll be in touch, Tommy.
TOMMY: I look forward to it. After all, the three of us have a big reunion to plan.
MARIE: We certainly do. Have a safe flight.
BILL: Thanks.
TOMMY: ‘Til we meet again.
Bill smiled, picked up his suitcase and walked out the door.
TOMMY: So, I suppose you’ll be needed at the church back in Maine.
MARIE: Not quite. I made a few calls, and it turns out a position similar to mine is open at St. Luke’s.
TOMMY: You mean?
MARIE: Yep. I’m home.
Tommy and Marie hugged.
KIRIAKIS MANSION
Victor sat in his study on the phone.
VICTOR: Dammit, I don’t care what time it is there, just get them here quickly. And they had better be the best, my granddaughter deserves nothing less. Need I remind you of who made some very generous donations to that hospital? That’s what I thought. Just make sure that they can help Ciara walk again.
Victor hung up the phone.
SALEM UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL
Aiden, Doug and Julie were sitting in Hope/Gina’s room.
JULIE: I just cannot believe that this is all happening again!
DOUG: None of us can, darling. We all should have guessed from her behavior at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
AIDEN: There’s no way we could have known. Even though a few of us suspected, nobody really thinks something like this could happen.
The door opened and Craig Wesley walked in.
CRAIG: Thanks for agreeing to meet with me on such short notice.
DOUG: Craig. Good to see you again.
Craig and Doug shook hands.
CRAIG: You too, Doug. Julie. I only wish this were under better circumstances.
JULIE: We all do.
Aiden stood up and shook hands with Craig.
AIDEN: Aiden Jennings, I’m Hope’s husband.
CRAIG: Good to meet you. I’m Craig Wesley.
AIDEN: Thanks for coming out here, Dr. Wesley.
CRAIG: No trouble. Now, Dr. Johnson and Dr Banning did a brain scan before I came back into town and they e-mailed me the results. I had a chance to look them over on my way out here, and I must say, these readings are fascinating.
AIDEN: In what sense?
Craig pulled his computer out of his briefcase and typed something. He turned the screen around.
CRAIG: Two brainwaves. Now, we know that one of these belongs to Hope, and the other belongs to Gina. It’ll take some time to figure out exactly which is which. However, look at this.
Craig clicked the mouse and zoomed in on part of the image.
CRAIG: This is from when Hope was first brought to the hospital, meaning that Dr. Banning and Dr. Johnson have been regularly keeping an eye on Hope’s mental activity.
AIDEN: There’s only one line. There were two on the image you just showed us.
CRAIG: Exactly. Meaning that Gina was the dominant one before being put into a coma. However, since being put into a coma…
Craig clicked the mouse again and the picture expanded.
CRAIG: Two brainwaves.
JULIE: That’s...nice to know. But what does it mean?
CRAIG: The second brainwave didn’t activate until Hope was put into a coma. As you can see, it started off small, but has been growing until now, where it is equal to the first. What it means, Julie, is that Hope is fighting back.
