Chapter 615
SALEM UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL
CLAIRE: I’m gonna go let Aiden and everyone else know that she’s awake.
Claire walked over to Ciara and squeezed her shoulder.
CLAIRE: I’m glad you’ve woken up.
CIARA: Thanks.
Claire walked out of the room.
CIARA: Shawn, what’s going on? Why can’t I feel my left leg? What happened?
SHAWN-D: There was an incident.
CIARA: Yeah, I gathered that.
SHAWN-D: Okay, here it is. Mom...Mom isn’t exactly Mom.
CIARA: What? What does that even mean?
SHAWN-D: Look, I don’t know exactly how or when, but sometime, we think around Halloween, Mom was kidnapped by André DiMera. He let her go after a few hours, but before that, he brainwashed her to think that she’s this European lady named Princess Gina.
CIARA: That’s why she had an accent when she held the gun on Aiden.
SHAWN-D: Yeah. Aiden figured it out and confronted her. He was trying to see if he could possibly get through to her. Mom’s still in there, somewhere, we just don’t know how deep Gina is in her subconscious.
CIARA: This still doesn’t explain why I’m in the hospital.
SHAWN-D: I’m getting to that. So, it was New Years Eve, you were coming down the stairs to go to the party in the Square during the confrontation. From what Aiden’s said, he tried to warn you about what was going on, but Gina shot you.
CIARA: What?
Scotty sat down on a stool and slid over to Ciara.
SCOTTY: The bullet hit just above your left thigh. When it hit, you fell down the remaining stairs and twisted your right arm, hence why it’s in a sling. I reset it, but it’ll need a bit of time to heal. Luckily, the bullet itself didn’t actually break anything except the skin, but it did knock one of the nerves in your upper leg out of place.
CIARA: Is that why I can’t feel anything in my left leg?
SCOTTY: Yes.
CIARA: When will I get that feeling back?
SCOTTY: Well, honestly, we don’t know. Kayla and I are doing as many tests as we can. You’re going to need to be in inpatient therapy for a while, until you’re able to walk with a walker. We’re currently looking into all available options, but right now, therapy seems to be the best.
CIARA: So...I might be like this forever?
SCOTTY: There is a very slim chance of that. It is more likely that you will, eventually, after a lot of time and therapy gain most if not all of the feeling back in your leg. But, until we are able to start your on therapy, you will have partial paralysis in your left leg.
Ciara began to cry. Shawn-D got up, sat down on the bed and put an arm around Ciara. He kissed her forehead. Back in the waiting room.
CLAIRE: Ciara woke up.
Everyone sighed in relief.
AIDEN: Thank goodness. How is she?
CLAIRE: She seems okay for now, but my Dad was about to tell her what happened, so she’s probably gonna need some support.
TRIX: Is it okay if I go and see her? I’ve been so worried about her since this happened on New Years’.
KAYLA: Go ahead.
Trix got up and walked down the hall. Claire sat down next to Chase and laid her head on his shoulder.
CHASE: How’re you doing?
CLAIRE: Okay. I’m just worried about Ciara.
CHASE: I know. Me too. We all are.
SCOTTY: I’ll give you some privacy.
SHAWN-D: Thanks, Scotty.
Scotty put a hand on Ciara’s shoulder.
SCOTTY: I promise, we’re gonna do everything we can to heal you and get you back to your old self.
Ciara sniffled and nodded. Scotty walked out of the room.
SHAWN-D: It’s okay. I know this sucks, but it’s gonna be okay. We’re all here for you, we’re all gonna help you as much as we can. You’re gonna get better, I promise.
CIARA: I wish Dad was here.
SHAWN-D: Me too, kid. Me too.
CIARA: I can’t believe Mom shot me.
SHAWN-D: Hey, Mom did not shoot you. That may have looked like Mom, but that wasn’t her. That was Gina. Mom would never hurt you, you know that.
CIARA: I know, it’s just…
SHAWN-D: It’s a lot to take in, I know.
Ciara closed her eyes and Shawn-D rubbed her back. A few minutes later, the door opened and Trix walked in.
SHAWN-D: Looks like you’ve got a visitor.
TRIX: Hey.
Ciara looked up and wiped her eyes.
CIARA: Hey.
Trix practically ran to Ciara’s side and hugged her.
TRIX: I’m so glad you’re safe now.
CIARA: Me too.
SHAWN-D: I’m gonna go check on everyone else. I’ll be back in a bit. Good to see you, Trix.
TRIX: You too.
SHAWN-D: Call me if you need anything, kid.
CIARA: I will, thanks.
Shawn-D walked out of the room. Ciara sighed.
CIARA: The doctors tell you I’m paralyzed in my left leg?
TRIX: Yeah, they mentioned. But, they’re gonna figure out how to help you so you’ll be able to walk again.
CIARA: I hope so.
Ciara sighed.
TRIX: Anything I can do for you?
Ciara shrugged.
CIARA: Hold me?
TRIX: Scoot over.
Trix helped Ciara turn onto her side, which took some effort, and scoot over to one side of the hospital bed. Trix climbed up next to her and held her. She gently ran her fingers through Ciara’s hair and rubbed her back, and kissed her forehead. Ciara buried her face in Trix’s shirt.
TRIX: Ssh. It’s okay. I’m here. I’ll be here for whatever you need, I promise.
Marlena walked out of her office and was greeted by John.
MARLENA: Hey, you.
JOHN: Hey, Doc.
Marlena and John hugged and kissed.
MARLENA: Has there been any progress with Hope or Ciara?
JOHN: Last I heard, Ciara had woken up and Shawn and Scotty were telling her what happened. As for Hope, I dunno. They’re calling in a neurologist to see what they can do about getting the real Hope back.
MARLENA: I have a feeling that’s going to be easier said than done.
JOHN: That’s a fact.
John’s phone rang.
JOHN: Just a sec.
John picked up his phone.
JOHN: John Black. Well, I was wondering when I was gonna hear your voice. You’re where? In Salem? Yeah, it’s a long story. When? Should be all right. Yeah, I’ll tell her. You too, see you then.
John hung up the phone.
MARLENA: What was all that about?
JOHN: Well, as if André turning Hope back into Princess Gina wasn’t enough of a blast from the past, Greta caught wind of that fact. She’s back in town.
