This story is the sequel to The HomecomingPrologue SALEM UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL Jennifer: Maxine, do you know where Daniel went? Maxine: Let me check ... According to his schedule, he’s making the rest of his rounds. Jennifer hears Daniel behind her, saying “I’m here, Miss Horton.” Jennifer smiles as she turns around to face him and jokingly responds.Jennifer: I thought I told you not to call me that. Her eyes widen as she realizes that she is looking not at Daniel, but at Jack Deveraux. Jennifer: Jack. Jack: Hello Miss Horton. I’m back. Jennifer: Well whoopdeedoo. Jack’s back. I’m busy. Jack: Jennifer! Wait. I ... I knew you might be a little angry, but ... Jennifer: A little??? Jack: I can explain. I know you think I was on a walkabout, but ... Jennifer: I don’t want to hear it. I really don’t care about you or your walkabout anymore. I’m over it. By this point, all eyes were on Jack. Maxine, Lexie, Kate, Daniel had arrived too. Jack: Can we go somewhere private to talk? I really need to talk to you ... to explain why I haven’t been around. Jennifer: Are you serious, Jack? All the times I wanted to talk to you ... needed to talk to you and you were incommunicado. I almost died and you didn’t care. Jack: Almost died? I ... When was this? Jennifer: Don’t pretend you don’t know. And don’t pretend like you care. Jack: Of course I care. You’re my wife. Jennifer: Actually, I’m not. We’re divorced. Jack: Divorced? How? I didn’t sign any papers. Jennifer: You didn’t have to. You deserted me and that’s all my lawyer needed to prove. It was pretty easy. Jack: I can’t believe this. Jennifer: Believe it. Not only that, but I’m in a serious relationship with someone reliable. Someone I’d trust with my life. In fact, he saved my life. He cares about me. Now please get out of my sight. Just go. Jack walked slowly to the elevator without saying another word. He was heartbroken. OMG. This is just amazing. Jen would not even give Jack a chance to explain why his was not there for her. Poor Jack I can just see his heartbroken face. Hope he does not give up without a fight. Love Jack and Jen together. Thanks Kpatch wish I could turn the clock ahead to tomomrrow.

Yay!!!! Another kpatch story!!!!
On one hand I really feel bad for Jack, but at the same time, I'm glad to see Jennifer standing on her own and not just caving like so many other females have done.
Great start!!!

I agree Mae00. At least she didn't just run back into his arms like nothing happened. Can't wait to hear his explaination though.

SEVERAL DAYS LATER, JENNIFER’S OFFICE, SALEM UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL
Abby enters. Abby: Mom, have you checked your email? Jennifer: Not yet. Why? Abby: You have to check it. We both got an email from somebody and it looks official. Jennifer logs into her email.
Jennifer: Oh my gosh. Leon Panetta. Abby: Who’s that? Jennifer: The Secretary of Defense. Abby: Is this a joke? Jennifer: I don’t think so. He says “Dear Mrs. Deveraux, We wish to thank you and your family for the sacrifice you made....” Abby: Sacrifice! What sacrifice? Jennifer: “I am sure you have many questions and the best way I can answer them is to ask you to click the link.” Okay, I’m clicking the link. Abby goes and stands behind Jennifer and looks at a web page called Stripes.com. Abby: What’s that? Jennifer: It’s Stars and Stripes, a military journal. Oh my gosh. Look at this. It's an article by Jack. Actually, it’s a series of articles. Abby: This is freaking me out. Jennifer: Me too. Abby: Go ahead Mom, read it. Jennifer: Okay. “My Year of Living Dangerously. By Jack Deveraux....”

My Year of Living Dangerously by Jack Deveraux
SUMMER 2010, LONDON, ENGLAND
I needed a story. My publisher was putting a lot of pressure on me and I had a tight deadline to meet. The London Gazette is a great newspaper, but like most newspapers around the world, it was suffering. Subscriptions were down, ad revenues were down, and competition from online news sources was squeezing the life out of print news.
Then there was the rag factor. Londoners loved their gossip rags, and most would prefer to read about the Royals than to read anything close to hard news. As the Editor in Chief of the London Gazette, I found balance by running news stories that were couched as human interest.
Meanwhile, this Yankee was feeling homesick. We got word that my wife’s grandmother was deathly ill and my wife went home to the states to be with her. I promised I’d come too as soon as I filed my story. I adored my wife’s Gran and vowed to get there before it was too late.
Luckily the fleet was in. Great way to kill two birds with one story. Talking to American sailors always made me feel less homesick. And if I asked the right questions, I could usually find a gem of a human interest story.
Little did I know that when I headed to the dockyards that day to quell my feelings of homesickness, I was heading farther from home than I had ever dreamed.
To be continued ...

Yeah another Kpatch story and this time featuring Jack and Jennifer, one of my favorite couples!! It appears that Jack didn't want to be away from Jennifer and family, but duty called. Can't wait to read the rest of Jack's story.
