Chapter 1
THE BRADY PUB
Jennifer and Daniel are playing darts.
Jennifer: Ha! Beat you again. Oh, I’m sorry. Did I crush your fragile male ego?
Daniel: It takes more ... than a game of darts to ... crush my male ego.
Jennifer: Sorry. That was kind of thoughtless of me, wasn’t it? I mean after everything you’ve gone through this past year … finding out your wife cheated on you and another man fathered your son.
Daniel: Now that’s the kind of thing that would crush a male ego.
Jennifer: Put my foot in my mouth again, didn’t I? I shouldn’t have brought it up.
Daniel: Nah. No worries. Those are things I will never forget, so it’s not like it’s ever very far from my mind.
Jennifer: I’m sorry, Daniel. Truly. What can I do to make it up to you?
Daniel: Now let me think. I know. You could make me dinner.
Jennifer: Make you dinner?
Daniel: Or reheat something. I know that the women of Salem aren’t known for their culinary aptitude.
Jennifer: Just like the men of Salem aren’t known for their charm and tact.
Daniel: Why don’t we just stick to something safe… he touches the head of the dart … like darts. How about a rematch, Miss Horton?
Jennifer: Don’t call me that!
Over in the far corner of the pub, Stefano and Kate are sitting in a booth. Kate is watching Jennifer and Daniel.
Stefano: What is it that has you so mesmerized, Katarina?
Kate: I’m sorry. What did you say, my love?
Stefano: Clearly, I am not the one who has your attention. What are you so interested in over there?
Kate: Tammy and the Doctor.
Stefano: Scuze? What the hell are you talking about?
Kate: Jennifer and Daniel. The snake and the rat.
Stefano: Jennifer Horton? A snake?
Kate: Maybe she’s the rat.
Stefano: Enough with the riddles. Why are you so upset? Don’t tell me the doctor still gets to you.
Kate: What? No. Not like that anyway. But seeing him does make the venom stir.
Stefano: Please. No poison. Something original this time.
Kate: Good idea Stefano. You are a brilliant man.
Kate takes out her cell phone and hits a speed dial button. She listens until someone picks up on the other end.
Kate: Hi sweetie, it’s me.

Boy thie is interesting. Guess I will have to wait til Monday to find out more. So funny that Kate would even care what Daniel is doing. Looks like it is going to be a good story. Thanks Kpatch.

I bet she is calling Lucas! Daniel did breakup his marriage at least in her eyes...In one way I am sure she was happy but in another she didn't like seeing her son hurt...I see revenge coming but just not sure how...Hmmm

I think I see the connection! Jennifer is "moving on" with the man that destroyed Lucas' marriage. Lucas and Jennifer are half-siblings. Kate is going to have Lucas come back and make Jennifer feel guilty about being with Daniel, thus crushing Daniel's heart, like he crushed Lucas'!

Jennifer: Miss Horton.
Daniel: That’s your name.
Jennifer: Yes … but … Jack used to call me that. It was his pet name for me.
Daniel: His pet name for you was Miss Horton??? What an original thinker.
Jennifer: I guess you had to be there. Can we …
Daniel : … change the subject? Absolutely. The sooner the better.
Jennifer: So dinner, huh? With me cooking.
Daniel: Too tall an order?
Jennifer: No. I can handle it. How about tomorrow night?
Daniel: It’s a date.
THE NEXT MORNING, SALEM UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL, 3rd FLOOR NURSES STATION
Daniel saunters over to the nurse’s station and sees an older doctor putting a patient’s file on a pile on the desk. Daniel shakes his head and mumbles to himself.
Daniel: Incompetent old fool. Should have retired years ago. Then aloud to the doctor. No no no. That’s not where the patient files go.
Doctor: No?
Daniel: No, you need to put them in the in-box here. That’s the only way they’ll end up getting filed correctly.
Doctor: Thank you for setting me straight, Doctor.
Daniel: Hey, any time. I’ve worked here for years and I know the ropes. Are you working part time?
Doctor: Excuse me?
Daniel: I mean you look like you’re retired. Or semi-retired.
Doctor: Do I now?
Daniel: Well yeah. You look like you should be on the golf course or something.
Doctor: Do you play?
Daniel: Me? No. Only geezers play golf. I prefer indoor sports.
Lexie rounds the corner. She greets the older doctor.
Lexie: Bill!
Bill: Lexie.
They hug.
Lexie: I’m so sorry I wasn’t here to welcome you back. I had an emergency. Have you seen your office?
Bill: No, not yet.
Lexie: Come on. I’ll show you where it is. Lexie notices Daniel. Oh, have you two met?
Bill: Not officially.
Lexie: Bill, this is Daniel Jonas, our chief surgeon.
Daniel extends his hand.
Lexie: Daniel, this is Bill Horton, our returning chief of staff.
Daniel: Bill Horton? Dr. Bill Horton? Jennifer’s father?
Bill: That’s right.
Daniel: Crap.
