Hmm...I'm intrigued, but it's going to take a lot for me to forgive Jack, too, LOL

GRADY PUB, LONDON DOCKYARDS I was enjoying a beer at the Pub and striking up a conversation with some sailors from the United States.
Jack: So the genie said “Poof, you’re 90 years old!” The sailors laughed. Sailor: You’re a funny guy. Jack: Hey, I got a million of ‘em. Why don’t you let me buy the next round. Sailor: Thanks bud. Jack: The name is Jack. Sailor: Nice to meet you, Jack. I’m Mark. This here is Jay. And this is Darin. We all shook hands and continued to enjoy our beer and some congenial banter. Darin: Where ya from, Jack? Jack: Salem. Outside Chicago. Mark: Youz guys think you have da best pizza, don’t you? Jack: Uh oh. A New Yawker. Jay: What are you doing in London? For a living, I mean. Jack: I’m the editor of the London Gazette. Darin: No kidding! I read that paper when we’re in port. Jay: What kind of security clearance you got? Jack: So much for small talk. Hey, I can keep a secret with the best of them. Why do you ask? Jay: Seriously. Just out of curiosity... Jack: I have the highest level security clearance. I had to get it when I moved to the U.K. So I took out my wallet and showed them my security card. They looked at each other and Darin nodded. Jay: I need to make a phonecall. Excuse me. I watched Jay make a cell phone call. It was brief, but seemed serious. He came back to the table and looked at me. Jay: You up for an adventure, Jack? My mood immediately brightened. Jack: Always. What have you got? Darin: I think our Captain would be interested in talking to you. Let’s go.
U.S.S. VANGUARD
So I followed them down the dock to the U.S.S. Vanguard, an immense aircraft carrier that, quite frankly intimidated me, and I don’t intimidate easily. My new friends saluted as they requested permission to re-board the ship. Darin and Mark departed as Jay escorted me up and down several sets of stairs to see the Captain. We knocked and entered. I awkwardly saluted and I could see the captain trying to hide his amusement at my gesture. Jay asked for my security card and said he’d be right back with it. The Captain motioned for me to sit. Captain: You ever been in the military, Deveraux? Jack: Call me Jack. I guess you could tell from the way I saluted that I haven’t. Captain: How long have you been in the newspaper business? Jack: Twenty years. Maybe a little longer. I dabbled in politics and ... Captain: We’ve been looking for someone like yourself to come along on one of our missions and chronicle it. Jack: What kind of mission? Captain: Well that’s the thing, Jack. I can’t tell you. It’s top secret. You can’t ask any questions. Jack: Um, Captain, with all due respect, I’m a reporter and I ask questions. It’s what I do. It’s in my DNA.
Jay came back in and handed the Captain a piece of paper. He then gave me back my security card. Captain: Your clearance is approved. All you need to do is say yes.
In that instant, a million thoughts flew through my mind. Part of me wanted to jump overboard but the other part knew that this could be the adventure of a lifetime and Jack Deveraux always loved an adventure.
Jack: Aye aye Captain. Yes!

Well he may have been on an undercover mission, but dang it, the girls didn't have to believe that he really didn't care about them. That was just plain cruel.........he better have one heck of a story to tell about his "mission adventure".

Wow. This is just so cool. Can't wait for Jen to see Jack again after she reads this. I can see why he was not able to tell her what was really going on.. Ready for the next chapter. Thanks Kpatch.

Ok, we know who Jay is, Darin (Brooks) is Max but Mark could either be Hapka or Valley, the one who also played Jack! Very clever!

I want to punch Jack for choosing to go on an "adventure" instead of being with his wife during her gran's funeral, but it IS a Jack thing to do, so I can't really blame him. *sigh* Still love him though.

U.S.S. VANGUARD
Jay showed me to my cabin where I learned that my new friend Darin and I were roommates. I had no gear to stow and was given a sailor’s uniform. I was unaware until I looked out the porthole that we had already shoved off. Before I changed clothes, I took my cell phone out of my pocket. Darin knocked the cell phone out of my hand.
Darin: What do you think you’re doing? Jack: I’m calling my wife. I need to tell her where I am. I watched in horror as Darin crushed my phone under his heel. Darin: You trying to get us all killed? Jack: What the hell is the matter with you? Darin: From now on, you have no outside contact. Jack: People are going to wonder where I went. Darin: Don’t worry about it. We’ve got it covered. Jack: What do you mean? Darin: I mean, we’ll take care of it. People will think you’re ... on a walkabout or something. Jack: What’s a walkabout? Darin: It’s something middle aged men do. Jack: Who are you calling middle aged? Darin: Um ... how old are you anyway? Jack: I’m ... nevermind. Darin: Don’t worry Jack. We’re taking care of everything. Jack: It’s the way you’re taking care of everything that worries me. Are you sure this is an American ship?

So Jack had no idea he'd have no contact? Maybe he should have asked more questions about this ahead of time? He is a reporter after all.

He tried to ask questions and they wouldn't let him.
Great chapter! If only it plays out this interesting on the show!
