Chapter 19 ST. LUKE'S An ambulance had come fairly quickly and had taken Father Matt away to the hospital. Now, there were just some police officers looking around. Bo and Hope were among them. HOPE: Did you see anything? Anything that might help us? ERIC: No. By the time I got there, the attacker had left the room. Father Matt was lying on the floor. And, one of the paintings had blood stains on it. BO: Are there any video cameras around here? ERIC: Just in the front door and the church office. BO: We'll see if we can find anything on them. HOPE: Even if we do, we might not be able to tell who it is. BO: Why's that? HOPE: A few weeks ago, there was a theft here. Whoever did it was wearing a ski mask and all black. I doubt it's the same person, Why would they risk coming back and being caught? BO: Maybe they have something against the church. ERIC: That's a possibility, but we don't know. HOPE: Which painting did you say it was? Eric pointed to a nearby painting on the wall. ERIC: That one. It was a painting of Jesus with his hands outstretched. The blood from Father Matt's injuries was on it. Strangely enough, it was only on Jesus' hands. HOPE: I see. Thank you, Eric. BO: Who's gonna be the priest until Father Matt returns? ERIC: I'll make some phone calls. BO: Wait a minute, aren't you a priest, Eric? ERIC: I was, but not anymore. I resigned from the priesthood about a month ago. BO: Oh, I see. CARVER HOUSE Celeste was now sitting down, drinking a cup of tea. Abe was sitting across from her. Suddenly, Celeste got a strange look on her face. ABE: Celeste? Celeste had a vision. It was a very dimly-lit vision. She could barely make out what it was. Then she saw, it was St. Luke's. There was a person in there, she couldn't tell who it was. They were poring some kind of liquid onto the outside of the church. Then, the person stood back and lit a match. Celeste snapped out of her vision and sat bolt upright. ABE: Celeste, what is it? CELESTE: Another vision, Abraham. A most terrible one. ABE: A vision of what? CELESTE: The darkness. The terrible, terrible darkness. It is here.

I wonder if Celeste will be able to give them any information to help stop it.

Chapter 20 ST. LUKE'S Bo and Hope were still looking for evidence when Celeste and Abe walked in. CELESTE: Just as I had seen in an earlier vision. BO: Celeste? What are you doing here? ABE: I brought her. BO: Hey, partner. ABE: Partner Abe and Bo shook hands. ABE: What's the story? BO: There was a break-in over here. We got here a little while ago. Father Matt got caught in the middle of a tussle with the intruder. He's in the hospital right now. Don't know who the intruder is, or where he is. CELESTE: This is just as my vision had foretold. HOPE: What? CELESTE: What kind of injuries did Father Matthew have? BO: It looked like he was chocked. Also, he hit his head on a painting. The painting's got blood on it. Other than that, we're not sure. Why? CELESTE: I had a vision, Beauregard. A premonition that this would happen. HOPE: Did you see who the attacker? CELESTE: No. They were wearing a ski mask. Then, a cop walked up. COP: Commander, I have the preliminary results from the D.N.A. tests. BO: Thank you. The cop handed Bo an envelope. He opened it and looked at the results. BO: You gotta be kidding me. Eric walked over. ERIC: Hi, guys. What's going on? Bo pointed at the results. BO: You wanna tell me what's going on? Bo handed Eric the results. He read them over. ERIC: No! It's not true!

I had this feeling Eric was going to look guilty. Whoever this evil person or spirit is, it has a grudge against Eric.

Chapter 21 ST. LUKE'S ERIC: There is no way that this is true! HOPE: Are you certain? ERIC: Yes, very. I know Sami, and she's done some devious things in her time, but she would never try to hurt Father Matt. BO: Well, these are preliminary tests, so we'll find the truth once more thorough testing is done. Anyway, do we have any info on Father Matt? HOPE: Taken to the hospital a little while ago. BO: Any family we can call? HOPE: Doesn't look like it. All his family is dead. He used to have an uncle Frank who lived here in Salem, but that was a while ago. BO: Oh, yeah. He said we might have known his uncle Frank. Celeste, do you have any idea who he was talking about? CELESTE: Come now, Beauregard, surely you know who he was talking about. BO: Nope. No clue. CELESTE: Really? Father Matthew Baker. The last name Baker doesn't mean anything to you? BO: Nope. Still lost. Celeste sighed. CELESTE: Hope, you explain it to him. HOPE: Father Matt has an uncle Frank. Frank Baker. Frank can be short for Francis. Francis Baker. Father Francis Baker. BO: Oh, I get it now. NICOLE'S APARTMENT It is now the next day. Over the last few weeks, Nicole had virtually cut herself off from human contact. She only went out if she needed something to eat. She only talked to others when she answered the phone and, depending on who it was, sometimes she wouldn't even answer the phone. At the moment, she was watching the evening news. NEWSCASTER: ...we'll have more on that later. Our top story for tonight is one in the nearby town of Salem. It seems that there was a break-in at their Catholic church, St. Luke's. As far as authorities can tell, nothing was stolen, however, there were signs of a struggle. The church's head priest, Father Matt Baker, was found lying on the ground. NICOLE: What? NEWSCASTER: With bruises around his neck and blood coming out of the back of his head. He was taken to the nearby Salem University Hospital that evening. Doctors say he is in stable condition, but has to heal quite a bit before returning to the church. NICOLE: Oh my gosh! Father Matt's been hurt? I have to go see him! Nicole grabbed her purse and walked out the door.

No way Sami did this.. but I wonder who would set her up? EJ? Kristen? Stefano? Ok, it's probably a DiMera.

Glad Nicole is going to see Father Matt.
I believe Father Francis performed Marlena's exorcism. Very interesting that he and Father Matt are related.

Chapter 22 CAR As Nicole drove to the hospital, she thought of the last time she saw Father Matt. ST. LUKE'S - FLASHBACK It was a few days before the wedding of Kristen and Brady. Nicole and Father Matt were in the church office. NICOLE: I don't know what to do. MATT: Well, things are very difficult right now. Would you like me to talk to him? NICOLE: No! Please, don't talk to him! He can never know I was here! MATT: Okay. Well, the best advice Zi can give, in that case, is to pray. And, perhaps, take a few days to sort things out in your head. NICOLE: Okay. Nicole stood up. MATT: I'll be praying for you, Nicole. NICOLE: Thank you, Father. Nicole walked away. SALEM UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL Nicole walked in. Anne was at the main desk. Nicole walked up to the desk. NICOLE: Anne, I heard about Father Matt. What room is he in? ANNE: Why, Nicole? Here to drug and screw around with another priest? NICOLE: Excuse me? ANNE: You heard me. Word around town is you get your kicks from drugging and raping priests. That is some sick fetish you've got there. I'm sure they have therapy for stuff like that, though. NICOLE: Okay, first of all, if that's all you've heard, you have some very outdated news sources. So if I were you, I'd get your facts straight before you make a bigger embarrassment of yourself. Second, don't cross me. Don't ever think you're tough enough to do that. Just as she was turning to leave, Maxine walked up. MAXINE: What's going on here? NICOLE: Nothing. Nothing at all. Maxine, what room is Father Matt in? MAXINE: Room 333. NICOLE: Thank you. Nicole walked away.
