48 HOURS LATER

Bill wakes up in a hospital room. He sees Mike, Jennifer, Lucas, Laura, and Kate around his bed.
Bill: Am I dead?
Laura: Of course not, silly.
Bill: If I’m not dead, what are you doing here? And you, Mike ... why did you come all the way from Israel if I’m not dying?
Mike: Because I love you and I wanted to see for myself that you were getting the right treatment.
Bill: Well thank you, but I’m fine.
Jennifer: Yes you are. You are fine, and you’re in good hands.
Lucas: You gave us quite a scare, you know.
Bill: I’m sorry I inconvenienced all of you.
Laura: It wasn’t an inconvenience, Bill.
Bill looks at Kate.
Bill: How’s Stefano doing?
Kate: Much better. He’s out of his coma.
Bill: That’s too bad.
Kate gives Bill a dirty look, then turns on her heels and leaves the room, as Daniel enters.
Daniel: What’s going on here? One. Two. Three. Four. Bill shouldn’t have this many visitors all at once. I’m going to have to chase you all out so I can examine my patient.
Jennifer: Everyone needs to leave? Even me?
Daniel smiles.
Daniel: Even you.
The Horton family leaves the room. After a few minutes, Daniel finishes his examination and makes notes on Bill’s chart.
Bill: Let me see my chart.
Daniel hands Bill his chart.
Bill: "Mild myocardial infarction." So I’ll live.
Daniel: With some lifestyle modifications, yes. You need to get your blood pressure in check.
Bill: Easier said than done.
Daniel: I know. Nevertheless, you need to become less stressful.
Bill: Are you suggesting I retire?
Daniel: That’s not my call. But as your physician, I would suggest you slow down. And find a way to control your temper.
Bill: Thank you Dr. Phil.
Daniel: All I’m saying is that I’m sure you want to be healthy and live to see important family events.
Bill: Such as ...?
Daniel: Oh, I don’t know. Abigail’s wedding. Weddings of your other grandchildren. And your children.
Bill: Send Jennifer in.
Daniel: Is that an order, doctor?
Bill: Sorry. Please send Jennifer in. I need to speak to my daughter.
Daniel: I’ll ask her to come in.

OMG Wedding of his children. Jen is the only one that is involved with someone that we know of. No wonder that Bill asked for Jen right away. Just loved the Thank you Dr. Phil line. Kate's reaction to Bill saying that Stefano being better was too bad was great. I could just see the look on her face as she walked out of the room. Can't wait till tomorrow to find out how it all ends. Thanks Kpatch for making it not so bad to lose my long weekend off.

Glad to see Bill is ok.. The silver fox can hang with me.. oh wait that won't be relaxing either...

Also sad to see Stefano is doing better..

Now I wonder what Bill will say to Jenn.

Glad Bill is ok. Sad Stefano is too. But it wouldn't be poetic justice for Stefano to die of diabetes (or other natural causes).

Ugh, why isn't sleazy and obnoxious a fatal illness - that would end pompous Dr. Dan for good. I can't stand the guy and his attitude with Bill makes me want to see Lucas punch him again. I liked Bill's line about Stefano surviving and his "Dr. Phil" line (another pompous blow hard I don't care for).

Great chapter KPATCH. I loved Kate leaving all mad after Bill's comment about Stefano. I can see her doing that. Can't wait to hear what Bill says to Jennifer. It has to be about Daniel! I am looking forward to seeing how it all ends!!

BILL’S HOSPITAL ROOM

Jennifer enters.
Jennifer: Daniel said you wanted to see me.
Bill: I always tell it like it is ...
Jennifer: You mean you tell it the way you see it.
Bill: And I can admit when I’m wrong.
Jennifer: Bill Horton is wrong about something?
Bill sighs with exasperation.
Bill: Jennifer Rose, you have too many of my bad qualities. Sarcasm is one of them.
Jennifer: Sorry Dad. I have your temper too. All your children tend to be hotheads sometimes.
Bill: You can’t tell Daniel I said this, but he’s a good man. A good doctor.
Jennifer: Aha! ... Oops, sorry. Sarcasm slipped out again.
Bill: He knows what he’s doing and he has a fine bedside manner. Better than mine.
Jennifer: I told you he was a good guy.
Bill: Now that doesn’t negate his less-than-stellar character or his history with women.
Jennifer: People change, you know.
Bill: Yes they do.
Jennifer: So you approve of me and Daniel.
Bill: Let’s not overstate the case. I’m just saying that I’m willing to keep an open mind.
Jennifer: Thank you. And I am going to tell Daniel you said that.
Bill: Now wait one minute!
Jennifer kisses Bill and goes outside to the nurses station.


NURSE’S STATION

Lexie: Father can’t play fast and loose with the rules anymore, Kate.
Kate: I know. But you try telling Stefano Dimera what to do. What to eat, what not to eat. What not to drink.
Lexie: I’m getting the name of a good diabetic nutritionist and Father is just going to have to put him on his payroll. Full time.
Kate: I hope he agrees.
Lexie: He’ll have to. A good nutritionist can be more valuable to his health than a dozen of his henchmen.


Jennifer: Maxine, do you know where Daniel went?
Maxine: Let me check ... According to his schedule, he’s making the rest of his rounds.

Jennifer hears Daniel behind her, saying “I’m here, Miss Horton.” Jennifer smiles as she turns around to face him and jokingly responds.
Jennifer: I thought I told you not to call me that.
Her eyes widen as she realizes that she is looking not at Daniel, but at Jack Deveraux.
Jennifer: Jack.
Jack: Hello Miss Horton. I’m back.

OMG. I just knew that Jack was going to enter the story at some point. What a cliffhanger to leave us with. I think my heart even stopped when Jen said Jack. Thanks for the great story Kpatch. When is the sequel coming I need to put the date in my date book.
