Chapter 41 An excerpt from the journal of Ceridwin Alamain There was one thing I always wanted to ask Sydney...back when we were first getting together. I wanted to know about that father of hers. How any man could be so cold and calculating and hurtful to their own daughter is beyond me. How a man who was supposed to love and protect his daughter could hurt his daughter so terribly. And I wanted to know why. But, I don't need to ask anymore. I know the answer now. You see, E.J. DiMera is evil because he was born of evil. He is the spawn of Satan. I'm writing this in case anyone ever finds it so you can see...you can see how the world nearly ended. But, of course, it didn't end. That's the thing about wording a sentence. It nearly ended, but it didn't end. And we are so glad that it didn't!WHITE ROOM It was bright. Very bright. She wasn't sure where she was. The only thing she was sure of was who the woman in front of her was. SYDNEY: Grandma? Sure enough, there was Marlena standing in front of Sydney. MARLENA: Hello, Sydney. Sydney and Matlena hugged. SYDNEY: Wait, if you're here, does that mean I'm... MARLENA: No. Not necessarily. You have the choice whether to remain here or go back. SYDNEY: I like it here. Nothing hurts here. But, I miss Ceri and Grandpa John. Where are we, Grandma? MARLENA: What does it look like in your opinion? SYDNEY: It looks like Union Station. MARLENA: Union Station? You know, I suspect that if you wanted to, you could get on a train from here and go back home. SYDNEY: I think I might. MARLENA: You were very brave, Sydney. Especially in telling the police and standing up to E.J. Never forget how loved you are. SYDNEY: Thanks. I won't. A train whistle sounded. In the distance was the sound of wheels on tracks. MARLENA: I must be going now. SYDNEY: Wait! Marlena turned back to look at Sydney. SYDNEY: Is this real? I mean, am I really experiencing this, or is it all in my head? Marlena smiled. MARLENA: Of course it's in your head, Sydney. But why should that make it any less real? Marlena turned and walked away. The train came into the station. Sydney got on and journeyed back to reality. Tune in tomorrow for the finalé.

I really liked Sydney seeing and talking to Marlena. That has to be comforting for her.

Chapter 42 SALEM UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL John went up to the front desk. Daniel was standing there. JOHN: Daniel, what's going on? Where's Sydney? DANIEL: She's fine. She's in...room 867. JOHN: Is she okay? DANIEL: She will be. The bullet...grazed her. There are no...serious...injuries or...ruptures. She will...however...have some...stomach pains...for a week or...two. JOHN: Can I go and see her? DANIEL: Certainly. Sami, Lucas, and...Ceri are...in there right...now. You should...join them. ANNOUNCE (over P.A.): Dr. Jonas, please report to operating room 5309. DANIEL: Well...that's me. Go in and...see your granddaughter. Daniel left. John went into the room. Sami, Lucas, and Ceri were sitting in chairs near the bed. Sydney was still sleeping on the hospital bed. JOHN: She okay? SAMI: Yeah. She's still sleeping. LUCAS: Everything taken care of? JOHN: Yep. E.J.'s gone for good this time. Bo, Shane, and Jeannie said we'll catch up later. SAMI: What about Tony? JOHN: He'll be dropping by in a little bit. Wanted to give us some time with Sydney before she meets her uncle. Ceri, who was sitting in the chair closest to the bed was slowly running her fingers through Sydney's hair. Slowly, Sydney blinked a few times and then opened her eyes. She looked around for a minute. SYDNEY: Ceri? CERI: Sydney. You're awake. Sydney attempted to sit up. SYDNEY: Ow! Ow!! Ceri gently helped her lie back down. CERI: It's okay. It's okay. Just take it easy. Just relax. It's okay. SYDNEY: What happened? Where's daddy? SAMI: Your daddy's gone, sweetie. We made sure this time. He's never gonna hurt you again. SYDNEY: What happened? JOHN: A lot. We'll fill you in on the details later. Right now, the important thing is that you're okay. SYDNEY: Lucas? LUCAS: Yeah? SYDNEY: About what I said, in the park, I meant it. No matter what happens, I think of you as my dad. LUCAS: Syd, you know I've always thought of you as a daughter. SYDNEY: I love all you guys so much. CERI: We love you too, Sydney. SYDNEY: And whatever happens, I know that we'll always be together. Because we're a family. Tune in tomorrow for the epilogue.

Epilogue
5 Weeks Later PARK Sydney sat on a park bench, writing in her journal. It was now the middle of summer and school had been out for a few weeks. Ceri walked over. CERI: Hey. Sydney smiled and put down her journal. SYDNEY: Hey. CERI: Do you know what today is? SYDNEY: Yep. One year since we first met. Sydney stood up. The two kissed and embraced. SYDNEY: Come on. Let's go celebrate. Hand in hand, the girls walked away. From the journal of Sydney DiMera: I can't believe it's been a whole year since Ceri and I first met. It seems like such a short time. I've learned a lot over the last year. I've learned about love and what some people were and still are willing to do for it. I learned how to be myself. I learned that some things really can change, and that some people never will. I am so thankful for the people in my life. I have the most amazing friends and family in the world. I love them all so much. I feel good, I feel great! I'm really and truly happy, and it feels amazing!NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR: Dear readers, I hope you have enjoyed "Spring Fever" as well as the other five stories [Summer Breeze, The End of Summer, The Autumn Effect, Winter/Reflections, A Summer (Camp) to Remember] set within the same timeline as it. However, now it is time to say goodbye. Not forever, of course, but for the moment. I have a few other stories kicking around in my head that I plan on releasing here. One day, though, I will come back to this storyline. My next story, "The Princess and the Policewoman", will start on Monday, June 3rd. I hope you have enjoyed reading these six future stories as much as I have enjoyed writing them. I love these characters very much. Rhiannon, J.J., Claire, Ciara, Ceri, Sydney...how can I forget them... André DiMera from MyHourglass
