Do you care about the Royal Wedding?

Who watched it? All? Some? A little?
What did you think?
I just watched for a little while as I was getting ready for work this morning. Not a fan of the choirs. Why does everyone look so dour?
The bride and groom looked gorgeous. I was glad that Kate went with a traditional gown. The lace on the sleeves was so romantic.
Every time I hear Kate and Will, I think of Kate Roberts and her grandson.

I posted a poll about this very subject. Should our threads be joined as one?

Ok, I voted "really don't care", however, I did watch it this morning. ONLY because my regular morning news wasn't on while I was getting ready for work.
Pretty dress. That's about all I have to say.

I watched CNBC Squawk Box instead since my news wasn't on either.

I am a huge fan of romance and especially weddings. I loved Diana and cried when she died. I sobbed watching William and Harry walk, head bowed, behind her coffin at the funeral. As William grew, I was happy to see him become the man, I'm assuming, Diana wanted him to be. He appeared to be a regular guy, despite the enormous pressure he was under. I'm glad he and Kate decided to wait as long as they did. I hope their future turns out to be the fairytale we all dream about.
I thought Kate's dress was very much like Grace Kelly's dress, and I thought that was perfect for her. Kate looked absolutely radiant, as every bride should be on her wedding day. All in all it was a beautiful day and I'm truly happy for them. Now, I can't wait to see the children, They are going to be GORGEOUS!!!!!

My 7 year old daughter was watching it while slowly getting ready for school. She is thrilled to see a real life prince and his new princess. I looked it up and BBC is going to air the ceremony at 4pm CST this afternoon. I told my daughter she can watch it then. It doesn't interest me a whole lot though.

Oh, I forgot to add that William looked like he'd just stepped out of a Disney cartoon, namely Cinderella. His bright red coat (jacket?) made him look just like Prince Charming, which, to me is appropriate. I think he's just adorable.

How much did the wedding cost? And who's paying?

"The British citizenry can breathe a sigh of relief, as they're not going to be footing the bill. Both the queen and Prince Charles have agreed to "pay their share," though in the past, public funds have been used to finance royal events. While we're not quite sure how much "their share" will be, exactly, we're pretty confident they're going to pick up the vast majority of the total wedding tab. Tradition dictates that the bride's family pay for the ceremony, and Kate's parents have insisted on contributing, but this is one bash even those respectable millionaires can't afford. Most realistic estimates place the final cost for the wedding around 12 million pounds, all of which will be covered by private funds. However, the state may have to pay a hefty sum to cover public services like increased police presence for security and traffic detail." from tlc.howstuffworks.com/weddings/who-pays-for-royal-wedding.htm

Oh, I forgot to add that William looked like he'd just stepped out of a Disney cartoon, namely Cinderella. His bright red coat (jacket?) made him look just like Prince Charming, which, to me is appropriate. I think he's just adorable. They did look like they stepped right out of a Disney movie. I just looked at pictures online and watched the video of her walking down the aisle and saying their vows. I guess the thing that upsets me is all the coverage turns their marriage into a spectacle rather than a private family affair. Today wasn't about them and their love for each other. It was about who attended, what everyone wore, and who had the craziest hat. Kinda sad when you think about it that way. Don't get me wrong, I did look at the pictures and thought she looked stunning, but when I saw photos of them waving to the masses, it hit me. This wedding wasn't for them, it was for the people. On your wedding day the only thing you should be focused on is your new spouse and your new life together. I know they are royals but it makes me sad for them that they can't have a day that is just theirs.

Hmm. I didn't really see it that way at all. The way Westminster Abbey is designed, there's a very intimate space at the altar which, to me, helped give the event a smaller feel. Their friends and family were close enough to see and hear everything. Yes, there's a lot of pomp, but he's going to be the King someday! That deserves pomp. In all the video I've seen of them at the altar, they only have eyes for each other. When he saw her for the first time, my heart melted as he leaned in to her and (even though you can't hear it, you can read his lips) he said "You look beautiful." How sweet is that? And Harry took a peek at her coming down the aisle (which is not what he's supposed to do; they're supposed to stay facing forward) and you can see him say to Will something like "Just wait till you see her." That's such a brother-thing to do. I loved it. As big as the event was (and it truly is a historical event) it still felt very small and intimate to me.
