I'm really enjoying the conversation a lot. I noticed that Philip said it's no one's business what happens between us. He didn't say happened. I like that!

11:15 p.m.
HOUSE IN THE WOODS
Philip: That was another lifetime. Life is more serious nowadays. ... So, you said you want the dare. Hmmm. Philip looks around the room and gets an evil glint in his eye. Philip: I got one. You need to eat a whole can of navy beans. Cold. Chloe: You wouldn’t! Philip: That’s it. There’s your challenge. Chloe: Ew. You know I hate beans. Philip: I wondered if you still did. Chloe: Just the thought of it is making me sick. Okay okay. Forget the dare. I’ll tell the truth instead. Philip: You’re allowed to do that? You can change your mind in the middle of a game? Chloe: Yes. Philip: Are you sure you’re not just making this up as you go along? Chloe: Even if I was making it up, it’s just us here. Like you said, what happens in the cabin, stays in the cabin, right? So what does it matter? Philip: It matters to me. I’m competitive. I want to win. Chloe: You’re incorrigible. Fine. Deduct 10 points from my score. Have you thought of a question for me? Philip: Yes, I have. And it’s a serious one. Chloe: Uh oh. Philip: Earlier ... earlier when I asked you if Brady was abusive when he gets high, you avoided the question. Can you answer it now? Chloe let out a sigh before taking a deep breath. She nodded. Chloe: He’s not abusive like you’re thinking. Not physically. Not really. But I guess you could say he’s verbally abusive. He says some pretty hurtful things to me. Philip: I’m sorry. You don’t deserve to be treated that way. Chloe: I don’t know. Maybe I do. Philip: Chloe, no. It’s his problem, not yours. And you shouldn’t feel like you’re to blame. Because you’re not. Chloe: How do you know? You’re not there. Philip: No. But I know you. Chloe: Knew me. Philip: I know you. I know the kind of person you are. If you were my wife, I would never ... Philip heard himself say something he shouldn’t have said, and he stopped mid-sentence. Chloe: But when he comes down from his high and realizes what happened, he’s so apologetic. He’s so sweet. Philip: Until it happens again. It’s a pattern, Chloe. And you’re enabling him. Do you realize that? Chloe: What am I supposed to do? Philip: Have you thought about leaving him? Chloe: When I’m angry at him, yes, I think about it. But I’m not going to do it. Philip: Why not? Chloe took a gulp of wine. Philip: Chloe? Why won’t you leave him? Chloe: Because he couldn’t handle it. If he turns to drugs now, can you imagine what he’d do if I left him? I can’t even consider leaving him. Philip: I’m worried about you, Chloe. Chloe’s voice turned to a whisper. Chloe: Me too. I’m scared. Philip: Of leaving Brady? Or staying with Brady? Chloe: Both. I just feel so alone. Philip: But ... You know you’re not alone, don’t you? You have friends and you have your family. You have me. And Belle. Chloe: Are you encouraging me to leave Brady? Philip: Maybe. He shouldn’t get away with what he’s doing to you. And you can’t keep living the way you’re living. Chloe got up off the floor quickly and sat down on the sofa with her arms folded across her chest. Chloe: I don’t want to play this game anymore. Philip: Fine by me. I didn’t want to play in the first place. Want to sing again? Chloe: Maybe later. Chloe looked around the room, which was warmly lit by the glow from the fireplace. Chloe: Do you think someone lives here? Philip: Judging by the small amount of food and the way this place is stripped down to the bare necessities, I’d say it’s being used as a fishing cabin. Chloe: Ice fishing? Philip: I meant during fishing season. Chloe: Oh. ... I’m tired. Philip: Then get some sleep. Chloe: Philip ... Philip: Yeah? Chloe: Thanks for caring. Philip looked over at Chloe on the couch and he didn’t say anything. She curled up on the sofa and closed her eyes.

I feel bad for Chloe. It has to be even lonelier being a continent way from your family and friends. I noticed Chloe didn't push Philip to finish his sentence...If you were my wife... She already knows Philip wouldn't be treating her that way.

Philip is so arrogant... How does he know how he would be in the future if he was married to her. I am sure "This" Brady probably had no idea he would ever treat Chloe this way either when he married her. It was just such an arrogant thing to say.

1:00 a.m.
HOUSE IN THE WOODS
Philip fell asleep in front of the fire and woke up when a fireplace ember crackled. He thought that being stranded was just a dream but immediately realized it wasn’t. He slowly unfolded his body and stood up, stretching the stiffness away. Philip looked toward the sofa and saw that Chloe was still fast asleep. So he decided to take his first real look around the cabin to see if he could find anything useful that Chloe might have missed.
His ankle was feeling a lot better and a short walk around the house helped to limber it up. As expected, there was no phone. No radio. But Philip did find a woolen blanket in a closet and it didn’t smell too musty, so he brought it back into the living area. He gently placed it over Chloe.
He would never have guessed she was so unhappy. If she knew that Brady was cheating on her on top of everything else, it would kill her. He swore to himself that she would never hear it from him. These things had a way of coming out, but he wouldn’t be the one to break her heart. He took one of his business cards out of his wallet and went to put it inside Chloe’s handbag. He saw a pen in her purse and he borrowed it to write something on his card before placing it inside her handbag.
He reached down and brushed the hair out of her face as he watched her sleeping. She stirred.
Chloe: What are you doing? Philip: Sorry. I didn’t mean to wake you. I found another blanket in the closet and ... Chloe: Oh, thank you. That’s nice. I’m feeling warmer already. Philip: Go back to sleep. Chloe: No, I’m up. I’m thirsty. Philip: There’s nothing to drink except wine. Tap water. And snow. Chloe laughed. Chloe: Snow? You’re kidding. Philip: When you’re fighting a war, you learn survival skills pretty fast. Chloe gasped. Chloe: Oh my god. I never thought of that. Philip, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to laugh. Philip: It’s okay. It’s not a big deal. I actually prefer wine over snow. Chloe: And a roaring fire instead of the frigid outdoors. Chloe went back to the fireplace and draped herself over the cushions. Philip poured some more wine.
Philip: I’m really sorry if I upset you earlier. Chloe: Don’t be. It felt good to talk about it. I feel like I keep so many of my emotions bottled up. Philip: I know what you mean. Chloe: But you don’t do that. Do you? Philip: No, not really. I probably should learn to keep my emotions in check more often. Chloe: No, Philip, don’t change. You are who you are and that’s one of the things I always ... admired about you. You aren’t afraid to put it all on the line. Philip: And get kicked on my ass for it. Chloe’s mind flashed to seeing Belle and Shawn coming out of a room at the Salem Inn, and later overhearing Belle and Mimi talking about Belle’s pregnancy. Chloe: But you’re happy now, right? Philip: Me? Sure? Why shouldn’t I be? I have everything I want. The whole 9 yards. Picture perfect life. Picture perfect wife. Philip drained his glass of wine. Philip: You want to hear something funny? Chloe: What? Philip: Sometimes I think things are too perfect.
