THE NEXT MORNING, THE LAKE HOUSE KITCHEN

Philip is having breakfast, while Chloe is breastfeeding Faith.

Chloe: So are you ever going to tell me about your job offer?
Philip: I was planning to tell you last night, but you had other things on your mind.
He winked at her. She smiled and looked down at Faith.
Chloe: Well, you have my undivided attention now. I’m sort of a captive audience.
Philip: I can see that.
Philip smiled at his girls.
Philip: I have to tell you, Chloe, I’m really surprised that you’re even entertaining the possibility of leaving Salem. I thought you wanted to live here forever.
Chloe: I guess I should send memos when I have a change of heart.
Philip chuckled.
Philip: That would be helpful.
Chloe: I don’t know, Philip. This just doesn’t feel like home anymore.
Philip: Since when?
Chloe: Since ... If I had to pinpoint a time, I suppose it was when I got kidnapped and taken to Thailand. I never feel safe anymore.
Philip: I’m sorry sweetie. You don’t really talk much about that.
Chloe: I told you everything there was to tell. I just don’t like to dwell on it. I have things I’d much rather dwell on. Like you and the kids.
Philip: I’m always ready to listen if you want to talk about it.
Chloe: I know, honey. But right now I just want to hear about the job.
Philip: Okay, what do you want to know?
Chloe: What kind of job are they offering you?
Philip: They want me to act as a liaison between private industry and military services.
Chloe: That’s clear as mud.
Philip: Well, you know how private companies do special work for the government? I’d be meeting with potential contractors -- meaning private companies -- about doing business with different branches of the service, helping companies understand the extra steps they need to take in order to do business with the military, like adding a higher level of information security and obtaining special clearances for their employees.
Chloe: Don’t they have people doing that already?
Philip: Yes, but government business is booming these days and they need more liaisons. Hudgens said I have the perfect qualifications, because I’ve been in the military and I’ve worked in the private sector for Titan. Not only that. Titan has some government contracts, so I get it. I get what it takes to work on military contracts.
Chloe: Would you be traveling much?
Philip: Just day trips. I already told them I’m not interested in the job if it will take me away from my family, even for a few nights.
Chloe: That’s good. I like that.
Philip: Trust me, I’ve learned my lesson. Besides, I promised you I’d never leave you again and that’s a promise I intend to keep. What other questions do you have?
Chloe: Is it at all dangerous?
Philip: It’s not dangerous.
Chloe: Even though you’d be back in the Marines?
Philip: I wouldn’t see any action ... except in the bedroom.
Chloe: Don’t change the subject.
Philip: I wasn’t. I’m always thinking about sex.
Chloe chuckled.
Chloe: You’re incorrigible.
Philip: You love it.
Chloe: So ... it sounds like you told them you’re interested.
Philip: Eh, not exactly. I just said I was willing to hear what they had to say.
Chloe: If you did take the job, well, what about Titan? Would you give up your position as CEO?
Philip: Well, I’d need to talk to Brady, but I’m thinking I’d hand the reins over to him.
Chloe: Philip, that’s huge.
Philip: I know. But I’d still maintain my seat as Chairman of the Board. I wouldn’t want to be totally out of the loop. Guess I’ve gotten kind of attached to Titan after all these years.
Chloe: But if you’re not the CEO of Titan, how will that affect our income?
Philip: In essence, it won’t. The government job pays well. A quarter of a million a year.
Chloe: Wow. The government can afford that?
Philip: My salary would be funded through a special fee-for-service arrangement, not through taxpayer money.
Chloe: And would you still be a Major?
Philip: I’d be promoted to Colonel.
Chloe: I’m not surprised. You did such a good job for them while you were on assignment in Israel.
Philip: Oh sure, I did a great job when I wasn’t in hiding.
Chloe: Hmm, so I’d be sleeping with a high ranking military officer?
Philip: Every night.
Chloe: I guess I can’t exactly call you Soldier anymore.
Philip: Right, you’ll have to call me sir and salute.
Chloe: Ha! Don’t hold your breath waiting for that to happen. So where would we be moving?
Philip: We’d be moving to the West Coast.

Glad they are talking about it. I don't picture them a California family. Wonder what other state it could be. They need snow. Maybe Washington?

Snow. I could do without. Hmmmm California. Sounds super, but I would worry about earthquakes. So close to Sanfrancisco. I think it would be fun to see them there. Hope they make a trip to look for a new home. Thanks for the chapter and a friday no cliffhanger

If they move to California then maybe L.A. and then so close to NBC Studios...maybe Chloe can get a job on a soap opera, like Days!! LOL

I agree. They need a new place to start fresh and be away from all the drama of the past. Of course, knowing Phillip and Chloe (and of course our very own jkjpatch!) they will never be drama free!

THE LAKE HOUSE KITCHEN

Chloe: So where would we be moving?
Philip: We’d be moving to the West Coast ... of Florida.
Chloe: Florida? Don’t they get hurricanes there?
Philip: Yes, but their kidnapping rate is pretty low. And Tampa -- where CentCom is located, has a lower probability for hurricanes because of its geography.
Chloe: You’re making Faith sleepy, you know.
Philip: Sorry to bore you, princess.
Chloe: So ... Florida. What’s CentCom?
Philip: Central Command. It’s located at MacDill Air Force Base and it’s the worldwide headquarters of military operations for all branches of service.
Chloe: Really? That’s impressive.
Philip: I know.
Chloe: I’ve never been to Florida. Have you?
Philip: When I was a kid. My dad had business in Orlando, and he took my mom and me along.
Chloe: Did you like it?
Philip: Sure, I guess. I remember it was hot. Disney World was kind of interesting. The beaches were great. Surfing, not so much. But the sunsets were phenomenal.
Chloe: I’m starting to get a little excited.
Philip: Hmmm.
Chloe: What’s wrong? What are you looking for?
Philip: I remember seeing something about a website in the letter. Here it is. Hudgens says to check out this website for more info.
Philip took out his iPhone and entered the URL.
Philip: Here it is. This will tell us more about the base.

Philip: Check it out. These houses are all new construction. Ed said we could pick any one of these communities around the base.
Chloe: I like that one. Let’s see the 360 view.
Philip: Gotta love virtual househunting.
Chloe: Oh Philip! These are right on the water.
Philip: I know. They overlook Tampa Bay.
Chloe: It’s gorgeous.
Philip: And they’re air-tight.
Chloe: What does that mean?
Philip: Sorry. That’s military lingo. It means it’s a secure community. Gated, security cameras, unmarked military patrols. Everyone who lives there is a member of the military.
Chloe: So our family would be safe.
Philip: Very.
Chloe: That’s all I need to know. Philip, let’s do it. Let’s move.
Philip: You want me to accept the job?
Chloe: Yes. This is perfect. It’s a perfect place to raise our family. It has everything we want in a community. It’s safe, secure, has good schools, great weather, beautiful views, it’s close to the water ....
Philip: Don’t forget the opera company.
Chloe: Ha. Trust me, I wouldn’t forget that.
Philip: Tampa has a world-class opera company associated with the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center.
Chloe: I’d be sad to leave the Salem Metropolitan Opera House you built for me.
Philip: I know, but it won’t go to waste. It’s been thriving the past few months. So which community do you like best?
Chloe scrolled through the website.
Chloe: I really like this one. There’s something about it that feels like home.
Philip: Which one?
Chloe: This one. It’s called “Sunrise.”

Tampa. That's not fair they are moveing right next to the writer of the story. Loved how the place Chloe chose was called Sunrise and the story is Sunsets. Anxious to see what happens next.
