I was right. 40 years. I did it by how old Graig was and how old I thought he would be when Philip and Chloe got married. Anxious for the party to start. Thanks for the chapter. So sad to see this story ending.

PHILIP AND CHLOE’S BEDROOM
Philip: How do I look? Chloe spun around and faced Philip. She smiled. Chloe: You look just as handsome as you did the day I married you. Philip: Not quite as young though. Chloe: You’ve aged quite gracefully, honey. You’ve still got it. Philip pulls her close. Philip: That’s because I’ve still got you. He kisses her. Chloe: Until death do us part. Philip: Even death can’t even part us. Chloe: We’d better get going before we get too maudlin. Philip: I’m still a little leary about this surprise the kids have got planned. Chloe: Stop worrying. It’s probably just a little beach party. Philip: So am I overdressed? Chloe: You never used to be so worried about how you look. Philip: That’s because I used to look good. Now, it takes work. Chloe: You’re worse than an old lady. Come on. Let’s go face the music.
Chloe took Philip’s hand as they headed out the back door and walked down the stairs to the beach. The sun was low in the sky and, as they walked toward the sea, they saw a crowd of people. Philip stopped in his tracks and pulled Chloe’s hand to hold her back. Philip: Chloe. Chloe: What? What’s wrong, honey? Philip: I’m not wearing my eyeglasses. Who are all those people? Chloe looked down the beach toward the crowd. Chloe: I ... I don’t know. Hmmm. I think I see my dad. And of course Faith and Jack and their children. Philip: And Wes and Emma, and their kids. But ... is that Melanie? Chloe: Melanie? No, it can’t be. Philip: I think it is. Chloe: Oh my god. You’re right. And there’s Brady. And Lucas, Sami, Will and Sonny. Philip: And Belle, Shawn and Claire’s family. Chloe: There’s Daniel and Nicole and their children. Philip: Justin and Adrienne, Bo and Hope. Please tell me Nathan and Stephanie aren’t here. Chloe: I don’t see them. But I do see Chelsea and Max. Philip: Oh and hey. My brother and sister are here. Seeing Austin and Billie always makes me feel young because they’re so much older than me. Chloe: You’re so vain. Come on, soldier, let’s go say hello to everyone. I think we’re having a surprise anniversary party.
Philip and Chloe greeted their guests one by one. Most everyone got a little emotional seeing each other and being together as a group for the first time since the Kiriakises moved away from Salem 38 years before. Justin stood between Philip and Chloe and put his arms around their shoulders. Justin: You guys know I’m a judge now. Philip: Uh oh, what did we do wrong now? Justin: Nothing as far as I can tell. In fact, it seems like you’ve done everything right. Chloe: What do you mean? Justin: I mean your kids ... Philip: Can’t argue with you there. Justin: Let me finish. Your kids have a surprise for you. Chloe and Philip looked over at Wesley and Faith. Philip: Obviously. They’re throwing us a surprise anniversary party. Chloe: Are you talking about something besides the surprise party? Faith and Wesley came over to stand with their parents. Faith: Actually, yes. Wesley: Me and Faith ... Chloe: Faith and I. Wesley: Sorry, Mom. Faith and I have been trying to come up with something extra special we could do for your 40th anniversary. Faith: You’ve done so much for us all of our lives. So we wanted to give back, just a little. Wesley: And we finally came up with this idea. Faith: With help from Aunt Nicole. She told me that you talked about renewing your vows a long long time ago. But one thing, then another, then another .... Wesley: And you never did. Justin: Until today. Philip: Oh? Chloe: Are you serious? Faith: Mom. Dad. Congratulations. Today is your wedding day. Chloe looked at Philip in shock. Philip squinted as he looked at Faith and Wesley. Faith went over and hugged her mother while Philip and Wesley embraced. Faith: Happy anniversary Mom. Then Wesley handed Chloe one of the fire and ice roses from the bouquet Philip had given her. He hugged his mother while Faith gave her father a hug. Philip: I’m not sure I’m ready for this. Faith: Dad! What are you talking about? You guys are already married. You can’t be getting cold feet. Philip: No, it’s not that. But I haven’t prepared anything. I don’t know what I’m going to say. Faith: Yes you do, Daddy. Just speak from your heart, like you always have.

So cool that they were able to get so many family and friends to join them for the surprise party. I'm so glad Nicole mentioned the vow renewal to Faith. It's absolutely perfect since they had a small private wedding with Nicole, Brady and Parker the first time. Thanks Kpatch!

FIESTA KEY BEACH, SUNSET
As the sun began to set, several of the guests helped to raise a rose-covered arch trellis that had hidden been in the sand.
Justin: Philip, Chloe, follow me. Justin led the way to the trellis and turned around. Philip looked at Chloe with some skepticism. She smiled and held out her hand to him and he entwined his fingers with hers as they made their way down the imaginary aisle to where Justin stood waiting. Philip faced Chloe and took both her hands in his. Friends and family gathered close the arch, as Justin began. Justin: Dearly beloved. We are gathered here to re-join this man and this woman in matrimony. Who gives the bride and groom? Faith and Wesley: We do. Wesley: I’ve been wanting to give them away for years. Faith: Wesley, hush! Wesley: They know I’m kidding. Philip stifled his laughter and Chloe just smiled and shook her head. Justin: Okay, why don’t we continue. Philip, Chloe, I know I’m putting you on the spot a bit, but you’ve been together for 40 years, so I think you can probably wing it. Would you like to say something to each other? Philip: Man! Forty years! We may be married for 40 years, but that doesn’t tell the whole story, does it, sweetie? I’ve loved you for 52 years -- almost my whole life. Man it’s hard to believe it’s been so long. But ... on the other hand, it feels like there haven’t been any days of our lives when I didn’t love you. Would you believe me if I said I love you more now than I ever have? Chloe: Oh Philip. Yes, as a matter of fact, I do believe you. Because I feel the same way. Oh my god, there were so many times in the beginning when I thought we wouldn’t make it -- not because we didn’t love each other, but because there were outside forces trying to tear us apart. Philip: But we made it. In spite of all that, we made it. Chloe: That’s because we were keeping the faith. Especially you. You never gave up on us. Philip: I have a confession to make. I almost did. It was before we got married. I was just about ready to give up on the notion that there’s such a thing as a love that can last forever. Then you came back into my life. Like footprints in the sand -- there you were. I hardly knew what hit me, just like the first time I fell in love with you. Once you got inside my heart, you were in there for life. P&C forever, just like a heart carved inside a tree, you made your mark inside my heart. Chloe: Philip. Philip laughed. Chloe: What’s so funny? Philip: Here I was worried that I wouldn’t know what to say because I didn’t prepare anything. But my daughter told me to just speak from my heart. Chloe: Just like you taught me to listen to my heart. Philip: Yeah, and apparently, my heart can go on about you forever, Chloe. Forever. Looks like we actually made it. Chloe: Well as far as I can tell, we’re not finished yet. I know it bothers you to be getting older and starting to feel your age, but the funny thing is, when I look at you, I don’t see the man you see when you look in the mirror. I see the man you were the day we got married. At least on the outside. On the inside, you’ve just gotten better. Philip: We’ve gotten better. Chloe: It’s kind of a miracle that we wound up together, Philip. Philip: From the moment I first fell in love with you, I knew I would always love you. And I always have. Chloe: I know you always say that and it would be a nice little fairy tale to say I felt the same way from the beginning, but I didn’t. Even though I loved you, I didn’t think you could give me the life I wanted. Philip [sarcastically]: Well thanks a lot. Chloe: I was wrong, Philip. You’ve given me exactly the life I wanted. And it truly was by divine intervention that we got back together. It’s been a lifelong love song for us, Philip, with every lyric saying that we’re still number one. And now composed, our love has grown, and we have turned a prayer into the greatest love affair of them all. Philip put his hands on Chloe’s cheeks and pulled her toward him. He pressed his lips to hers as she slid her hand around the back of his neck.
Justin: By the authority vested in me by the state of Florida ... Sonny: Dad, you have no authority in Florida. Justin: Then Illinois, okay? It doesn’t really matter. Just go ahead and kiss. Wesley: They already are. Philip and Chloe were completely lost in the kiss and forgot where they were until the sound of applause reminded them they were in public.
Wesley: Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the legendary Philip and Chloe.
