DR. BADER’S OFFICE, SALEM UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER, 1 WEEK LATER

Dr. Bader: Philip, I’m happy to tell you that the tests confirm that you are the father of the baby Chloe is carrying.
Philip exhaled.
Philip: Oh my god, you have no idea what a relief that is.
Dr. Bader: Here.
Dr. Bader hands Philip a business card.
Philip: What’s this?
Dr. Bader: It’s the number for Dr. Mitchell. She’s a marriage counselor. It sounds like you and Chloe are having some issues you need to work out. Trust and fidelity are at the core of any marriage and …
Philip: No, we’re not having any problems. Not those kinds of problems anyway. See, I had reason to believe that Chloe had been switched with a double in Thailand. But your test proves without a doubt that ...
Dr. Bader: Wait a minute. You were trying to find out if my patient is really Chloe? But ... But the test I performed didn’t do anything to prove she’s Chloe.
Philip: What do you mean?
Dr. Bader: It proved the baby is yours. That has nothing to do with Chloe. Fetuses ... fetuses are transplanted all the time.
A feeling of terror washed over Philip.
Philip: Oh my god. So you’re saying that the baby could have been transplanted from the real Chloe into this woman and … she might not be Chloe at all.
Dr. Bader started to think that Philip was deranged, but because this was Salem, she gave him the benefit of the doubt.
Dr. Bader: That’s right.
Philip: Sh!t.
Dr. Bader: I’m sorry Philip. I didn’t realize what you were trying to accomplish.
Philip: Wait. I just had an idea. We know for a fact that Chloe is Wes’s mother. What if we did a maternity test with Wes and Chloe.
Dr. Bader: Yes. That would work. [She reached into her pile of DNA test kits.] Here, take this DNA test kit home and swab Wesley’s mouth the same way I swabbed yours. I’ll need a new DNA sample from Chloe. You can get a strand of hair off Chloe’s pillow or hairbrush. Bring the samples to me, and I’ll have the lab compare the DNA. Good luck, Philip.

Okay - so the baby is Phillip, but Chloe is not Chloe... dang woman! This story has more twists and turns than a roller coaster. And I for one am enjoying the RIDE!!

Ok Kpatch. I really want to know how the fetus transplant was done. (The nurse in me Just think of all the preterm babies we could save.) I just love that part of the story. THE LAKE HOUSE

Nicole: Whassup up girlfriend? You sounded desperate on the phone. What’s the matter? Is it the baby?
Chloe: Oh Nicole, it’s everything. I haven’t been sleeping and I’m worried sick.
Nicole: About what?
Chloe: This is going to sound crazy, but I can’t keep it to myself any longer.
Nicole: What’s going on? Tell me.
Chloe: I’m scared that the man I’m living with isn’t really Philip.
Nicole: What are you talking about?
Chloe shows her a letter.
Chloe: This. It arrived a few weeks ago, shortly after the execution. It’s from Kate.
Nicole takes the letter.
Nicole: Kate? That can’t be. She’s deader than a doornail. I watched her get incinerated.
Chloe: She must have arranged for someone to deliver this after her death.
Nicole: Hmmm, no return address, no stamp. Just a plain envelope. “My dear Chloe. I’ll bet you thought you were rid of me, but think again. Remember how I told you that you’d never truly have Philip? I know you think I was bluffing, but guess what? I get to have the last laugh. The man you’re living with isn’t really Philip.” ... What? This is crazy.
Chloe: That’s what I thought, at first.
Nicole: Is that why you didn’t you say anything when I was here a few weeks ago?
Chloe nodded.
Chloe: Uh huh. I thought it was too crazy to be true and I tried to just forget about it. I was going to tell Philip about the letter, but he was already so distraught about the execution. I didn't want to burden him with this.
Nicole: Poor guy.
Chloe: But then he started acting all weird.
Nicole: How so?
Chloe: He kept saying things that didn’t make any sense ...
Nicole: Like what?
Chloe: Like ... talking about having sex in an elevator.
Nicole: Ooh, elevator sex is fun. I highly recommend it.
Chloe: No Nicole, he’s talking about it like it already happened. But Philip and I never had sex in an elevator. That was me and Lucas.
Nicole: Hmmm, maybe he has a fantasy about it. I say go for it.
Chloe: And he bought me this body wash because he thought I liked it, but it was the wrong brand.
Nicole: Honest mistake.
Chloe: And he hired Henderson to work for us.
Nicole: I always liked Henderson.
Chloe: Everybody likes Henderson. But Philip and I agreed a long time ago that we wouldn’t have any servants. Then he goes and hires Henderson without asking me first.
Nicole: Hmmm.
Chloe: And there’s something else. Philip ... hasn’t ... he hasn’t touched me in weeks. Not since the execution.
Nicole: By “touched,” do you mean ...
Chloe: I mean he hasn't made love to me since before I was kidnapped and held hostage in Thailand. Normally, he can’t keep his hands off me. But now, he doesn’t even kiss me. He barely even looks at me.
Nicole: Well, with everything that's happened ... um ... I’m sure if you give him time .... Have you tried scented oils? Or vibrators? Ooh, maybe a couples massage at the spa. Be sure you ask for Sven.
Chloe: There are a lot of other little things too. Like our stroll down “memory lane.”
Nicole: Memory lane?
Chloe: He gave me a notebook and he wants me to write down things about our relationship that I remember.
Nicole: That’s sweet, in a weird kind of way.
Chloe: I think he’s fishing for information about our past, so he can play his part more convincingly.
Nicole: Jeez. Chloe, this is terrible.
Chloe: I know. And I realize that each one of those things by itself isn’t that big a deal, but ...
Nicole: When you put them all together ... Have you told Bo?
Chloe: No, not yet. I’m scared Nicole. If he’s not Philip, then where’s my Philip?
Nicole: You poor thing.
Chloe: Just a few weeks ago, I walked out on Philip and now ... now I know that I’d give anything to hold him in my arms again. Oh Nicole, I’m so afraid I’m sharing a bed with ... a stranger.
