THE LAKE HOUSE
Philip and Chloe sat on the veranda for hours the day of Victor and Kate’s execution. For Philip, it was incredible to have Chloe back, and he hoped it was for keeps this time. For Chloe, she felt like a different person, like she lost something that she would never get back. It was good to be home, but it felt strange. As they sat on the veranda, there were long periods where neither of them said a word and long periods where they talked their hearts out. Every so often one of them would go get Wesley and bring him outside or feed or change him. Day turned into night. Chloe: I’m getting bitten up by mosquitoes. Philip: That’s because you’re so sweet. You don’t normally get mosquito bites. Chloe: Must be a new breed of mosquitoes. Um. I’m going to go inside. Chloe went inside the house through the door to her and Philip’s bedroom. He followed her in and locked the terrace door. Chloe: Philip. Philip: Chloe. Chloe: You go first. Philip: No, you go ahead. Chloe: I was … thinking about sleeping in the guest room. Philip: Why? Chloe: I don’t know. I just don’t think I’m ready to … Philip: Share a bed? Fall asleep in my arms? Chloe: You know what I mean. Philip: Chloe, my parents were executed today. If that doesn’t lower a guy’s libido, then nothing will. I’m emotionally drained and I’m not in the mood for sex either. He takes a step toward her and runs his hand through her hair. Philip: But I am in the mood to be close to you. To comfort you. To be comforted by you. So … please stay with me … here. Chloe: Well, when you put it that way, how could I say no? Give me a minute to change and brush my teeth. Philip: A minute? Take 15. Chloe let out a small laugh as she headed for the master bathroom while Philip undressed down to his briefs. Chloe left the bathroom door open so Philip went inside to brush his teeth using the second sink. She exited the bathroom and climbed into bed. She let out a sigh as it was the first time back in her own bed in weeks and it felt so comfy and cozy. She closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep, but she woke up when she felt Philip climb into the bed beside her. She looked over at him and smiled. Chloe: This bed feels amazing. Philip rolled over on his side and rested his head on his hand. Philip: And you look amazing in this bed. He brushed her cheek with his other hand. Philip: Not only was my bed empty without you. My world was so empty without you in it. Chloe: You’re so sweet. Philip: I’m not the one covered in mosquito bites. You okay? Chloe: Ha. I’m fine. Just really tired. Philip: Me too. Chloe: Can we go to sleep? Philip: Only if you let me sleep with you in my arms. Chloe smiled and slid toward Philip and nested herself against his chest. His body felt both cool and warm at the same time. She imagined that’s how it felt to be wrapped in a cocoon. Philip locked her in his embrace and felt the smoothness of Chloe’s skin as he rubbed her bare arms. The smell of her skin permeated his lungs and it smelled like home.

I am glad that she didn't sleep in the other room. Hope that she keeps working on getting over it.

PHILIP AND CHLOE’S LAKE HOUSE
The next morning before he even opened his eyes, Philip reached for Chloe but she wasn’t there. He started to get out of bed when Chloe came into the bedroom holding Wesley, freshly dressed and smelling like baby powder. She put him on the bed. Philip smiled and picked up his son. Wesley: Daddy. Philip: Oh man, this is the best morning. But he suddenly remembered that his parents were dead and the smile evaporated from his face. He felt a lump in his throat and tears fill his eyes as he held Wesley closer. Chloe: Philip, you okay? Philip shook his head no. Chloe reached for Wesley to take him out of Philip’s arms. Philip: No, leave him with me. I’ll get his breakfast. Chloe: Alright. I’ll take a shower in the meantime. Philip put on his pants and scooped Wesley off the bed and went downstairs. He got detoured by a knock at the door. He opened the door. Philip: Bo, hey. Come on in. Bo: Sorry to disturb you so early. Philip: It’s not a problem. Let me put Wes down. Bo followed Philip into the kitchen and Philip situated Wesley in his chair. Philip and Bo looked at each other and Philip was overcome with emotion. He broke down and started crying. Bo put his arms around Philip. Bo: It’s okay man. Philip: No, it’s not okay. My parents are dead and I don’t even know if I’m crying for them or for me. Bo: I’m feeling a lot of weird emotions too. I mean Victor was my father but I never had much of a relationship with him. He didn’t raise me. I can’t begin to imagine what you’re going through. Philip takes a deep breath and gets a hold of himself. Philip: I don’t even know what I’m going through. I’ll bet there’s nothing about this in any psychology books. How do I live with this? Bo: You just do. You have to ... for your family. And if you need to talk, you got me. Philip: Thanks Bo. And thanks for coming by to see how I’m doing. Bo: Actually there’s another reason I came by. Philip: Oh? That doesn’t sound good. Bo: Yesterday… at the execution, you know how they ask the prisoner if they have any last words? Philip: Yeah … Bo: Kate just said “Go to hell.” Philip: Ha. She always got right to the point. Bo: Victor … he had something more to say. Something a little disturbing. Philip: What was it? Bo: He said to tell Philip and Chloe we’re not done with them yet. Philip: Nice. Bo: He also said there would be something waiting for me when I got back to the station. Bo takes an envelope out of his jacket pocket and hands it to Philip. Bo: This is what was waiting for me. It was delivered by a local courier service. You should read it. Philip opens the envelope and his jaw drops. Philip: Oh my god.

Wow Victor and Kate just don't give up. I am dying to find out what is in the envelope. I had a feeling more would happen before we got to see the baby. Thanks Kpatch.

Poor Philip. I can't imagine my parents being that cruel to me.

Even after death, Victor lives to create havoc for Phillip, Chloe and Wesley.

WOW! But somehow I'm not surprised. Wonder what it is that Victor had sent to the station.

I wonder if it really something bad. Maybe Victor will surprise us and it's something good about Philip.
