from daytime royalty daytimeroyaltyonline.com/topic/8479469/1/#newinsidetv.ew.com/2011/03/22/da...ming-to-salem/'Days of Our Lives': Gay storyline coming to Salem? -- EXCLUSIVE by Lynette Rice As Days of Our Lives celebrates its 45th anniversary in daytime, the traditionally conservative soap is about to get a lot more contemporary: EW has learned exclusively that a gay storyline may be in the works! From what we gather, it may involve a current cast member hooking up with someone new. A show spokeswoman declined to comment. While competing sudsers have been in the forefront when it comes to same-sex couples - ABC's All My Children, for example, featured the first lesbian character in Bianca Montgomery (Eden Riegel), which led to the first gay marriage between her and Reese Williams (Tamara Braun) - Days has largely played a backseat role when it comes to featuring gay couplings. Stay tuned! Meanwhile, current and previous cast members like Kristian Alfonzo (Hope Brady), Arianne Zucker (Nicole Walker) and Deidre Hall (Marlena Evans) have hit the road to help promote the book Days of our Lives 45: A Celebration in Photos. Thousands of rabid fans have attended book signings in New York and Chicago, with more planned for New Orleans, Boston, Seattle and Vancouver. Season to date, Days is second place among women 18-34 and tied for third with ABC's The View among women 18-49. What are your thoughts, Days fans? Will the new storyline involve Dario Hernandez, maybe? Or perhaps Sami's son Will? Sound off below!

Thanks for posting this karebr! At first I thought it was a commentary like "ew yuck." Then I realized that EW is Entertainment Weekly.
This has been either speculated or suggested for some time. I don't think they will make Will gay because I think they want him on the canvas for a long time and there is more flexibility if he is hetero. The article didn't say if we're talking about gay men or gay women. But I'm going to guess Chad, because even though there has been a little flirtation with Abby and he had an off-screen romance with Mia, he is still new enough that it would be acceptable. How about Chad and Dan. Combo name could be Chan. Or Dad.

With the new direction the character of Taylor is supposed to be taking once Tamara Braun takes over the role, I am wondering if she may be the one who will be gay since Tamara has played gay roles before and she would be an experienced enough actress to pull it off.

Wait, Tamara Braun was involved in a previous lesbain affair and now she's coming to days!! Taylor will go gay! She will want to stay away from EJ and to turn him off of her, she will flaunt that relationship in front of him. Maybe??
Yep, that's taking Taylor in a new direction for sure!

It would be about time for DOOL to update their reality to include all types of people!!
In addition, the hetero choices in Salem haven't offered much at all lately. I'd welcome a strong relationship on the show, between two women, two men, or a man and a woman. I'd object to a relationship with a goat.
Tee hee. I love the idea of Taylor choosing a woman over EJ. He would be mortified. I'd like it better if she were British with a thick accent.

On twitter, someone speculated that the gay couple would be Rafe1 and Rafe2. LOL. Bwahahahaha!!!!! That just made my night!!!! PS. I just told my husband about that suggestion and he said their tagline should be "I see myself in you." If that doesn't read as funny as it sounded....well, I'm not doing it justice. I was crying. LOL

I think it will be 2 women....I don't think the Mr. Loopners running the place have the backbone to have 2 men.....they probably just consider 2 women together foreplay anyway......

The more I think about it, the more it seems like it HAS to be two women. The recast Taylor would make sense... and I wouldn't be shocked if they tried to go there with Carly, given Crystal Chappell's immense popularity in playing a later-in-life lesbian on Guiding Light...

Hopefully Corday will find his 'nads and actually go ahead with this but I won't hold my breath. The brass at Days are too chicken to put forth an important story such as this.

My hesitation about this has always been Days' own hesitation. The leadership has the most archaic mindset imaginable in the entertainment industry. They still write women like it's the 1850s. There is a reason that Days has been the last soap to consider this type of storyline. To say that they are not an "enlightened" group is putting it mildly. So while I shudder to think how they would write such a story for any pairing, if they do one, I very much hope they go for a Taylor/Carly pairing rather than any of the teen boys. Like Pallison suggested, I think Corday and the boys would have an easier time with that concept and what's more, Crystal and Tamara could probably make what I'm certain would be atrocious writing tolerable.

Yeah, it seems way more likely that it will be two women rather than two men. I really wish it was going to be Chad. Talk about shaking up the Dimeras!!!! How would Stefano react to that? Whoever it ends up being, I just hope it's done respectfully and not as a "I think I might be.....let's experiment" type of storyline. If you ever watched Will & Grace, it would have been so disappointing if Will had ever been with Grace. Does that make sense?

I'm not sure how I feel about this. I suppose if written well it could be enjoyable, just not sure I trust the writers to actually do a good job with this kind of story. This idea has been floated around for quite some time now and we haven't seen anything. I just wouldn't want them to do a gay story for the sake of doing a gay story, just because "other soaps" have done them. And for me, unless we see a drawn out process with a current character (Taylor, Chad, Carly, etc.) where they're really searching within themselves and you actually see the struggles they're going through trying to figure out that they're gay it's not going to work for me. I don't want to see them bring on a new character who is gay just to quickly "turn" an established character gay. Does that make sense? In fact, I don't know if bringing on a new character works either. I think it would make more sense if there was some sort of established relationship (read: friendship) that somehow turned into something more. I remember reading last summer on another board that people were thinking they would do that with Chad and Will (Chill . Now that could have made for an interesting story. Although, if they were to go that route, I'd want Lucas back in town to be there for his son (as well as Sami since I could see her taking something like that hard). That is something that could have been a natural progression with the two characters. I don't know if it would work now.
