Sparkster, regarding your comment about a relationship developing from friendship: I thought the story on Guiding Light between Olivia (portrayed by Crystal Chappelle) and Natalia was good and it's because of the way it progressed over time. They didn't take two previously hetero women and try to sell some instant attraction between them. It started with Olivia being a very selfish person but also very sick and needing someone to help her - Natalia was caring enough of a person that she was willing to keep helping the ungrateful witch and then over time Olivia started to change, not completely, just showing occasional consideration for Natalia in return and from that a friendship developed and then love. A story like that requires careful character development, lots of time, thoughtful dialogue, and realistic interactions ... basically the exact opposite of the way Dena & Gary love to "create" stories.

I think before going off into a new direction DAYS needs to tie up a zillion loose ends on existing S/L.
I don’t think a gay S/L will do anything for the show! IF they do this I would rather see it between two adults rather then 2 teens! But I really prefer that they don’t go down this road at all…

I really, really hope it is not Will! I like him together with Gabi a lot and I like the thought of Abigail and Chad too!
Everytime I look at the title of this thread I think ew like yuck as well, like jkjpatch said! Maybe someone should change it to say Entertainment Weekly. LOL I think that looks and sounds awfuL!

I just took the EW out of the title since it is mentioned in the original post where the info is coming from along with the source links - thanks Karebr for sharing the info and including the links, etc.

Days tends to use broad brushstrokes and create superficial characters and shallow love stories. I miss the depth and build up. Part of the reason so many of us love Victor and Maggie together is they are long-term characters with rich histories, many layers and we know them well. They are an unexpected duo and the buildup was believable.
So here's my point. If they do a gay storyline, I hope it is realistic, builds slowly, and isn't cartoonish. I don't claim to know a lot about the subject, but from what I understand, people don't just decide to be gay. You either are or you aren't. So I hope they do their homework and make this resonate for all viewers, gay and not gay.

I personally don't care if they do a gay s/l or not.....if they do, it's just too bad it can't be just another romance s/l and not be treated with the sensationalism that it will be.....I wish we were to the point in our history of mankind that a romantic/sexual relationship between 2 people of the same sex was treated the same as any romantic/sexual relationship.....sad it won't happen in my lifetime....

They need to just go ahead and write the Will coming out story. It is so clear it should be him.

^^ I wouldn't say that it is "clear" of any of the existing characters at this point. Like someone said earlier, there are a few that we know little about so far so maybe that could be revealed about them, but TPTB haven't really done anything that I can think of to lay the ground work for any of the characters. With Will, there has been a number of opportunities that could have been taken that weren't. At this point, I'm pretty doubtful that Days will really take this route at all, but who knows. Tomlin is all about "sensationalism" and as Pallison noted, that is very likely the way TPTB at Days would view such a storyline.... and that's why I think they would make a disaster of it regardless of the characters involved. Since I like Will, I'd rather him have "safer" writing.

I was surprised that GL pulled it off so well with Olivia, considering she'd been on the show for 10 years at the time, but it worked because her history with men was so screwed-up that you could believe she'd never known a true, genuine romantic connection until she met Natalia. Carly has had a REAL love with Bo, and I do believe she had it with Lawrence for a fleeting moment, so this character would be a tougher sell. I know CC can pull off the story, but I'm not sure it's in the character. Taylor is basically a blank slate, which helps.

I agree that it should be men, but as lame as Corday is, it will probably be two women. It's predictible that it will be Carly, but I wish they wouldn't do that either. I mean the woman had Dan and Bo and Lawrence. I would rather it be Dario and Chad. jkjpatch's idea of Chan or Dad was so hilarious I peed myself laughing. Not only do I have to refrain from drinking, but now I have to wear Depends too? Seriously though wouldn't it be great karma to have Melanie chasing around the new guy only to discover, he just isn't that into her? ;D

mikey, that is a good point about the differences between Carly and Olivia. Olivia was such a messed up person in general (including the relationships with men you noted) that I agree that made it more plausible that she never really connected with anyone before Natalia. Of course, it's not like the current PTB at Days are sticklers for consistency with characters or history though so who knows. I'm still leaning stongest on the side of "I'll believe it when I see it" that the story happens at all.

Many people have wanted this for him. And it is perfect to write a coming out story about a boy that age. And the way they are writing Will and Gabi...would work perfectly. Days is a wimpy conservative show and I would be shocked to high heaven if they even attempted this. And the fact that I have to say that saddens me since this is the year 2011!!!

Well, then it's too bad they didn't work harder to keep Stephanie. The character could be a natural choice in that she didn't have a big connection to the guys in her life, and was more desperate to be loved. And, maybe they could have spun it that she was always so jealous of Mel with guys b/c she was in love with Mel. And, the other perk would have been that if she'd have stayed, then Jay might've stayed...
