Chapter 9

First date with Ceri – success, apart from a minor freak out on my part. But, Ceri was really sweet about it. Plus, now I have a reason to go to the beach party coming up next weekend. I had wanted to go since I heard about it, but I didn't know who to ask. Well, now I'm going with Ceri, which should be awesome. I love hanging out with Ceri. She's really cool. Plus, she's been super patient with me. I can't wait for the beach party next weekend!

PHILIP & MELANIE'S APARTMENT
Philip was pacing around the apartment on his phone.
PHILIP: Yeah, man. So, how soon are you gonna be able to make it?
Pause.
PHILIP: Yeah, I know the party isn't until next weekend.
Pause.
PHILIP: Oh, great. See you on Thursday or Friday.
Pause.
PHILIP: Sounds good, dude. Oh, and if you've got it, play “Summer Breeze” by Seals and Crofts for me.
Philip chuckles.
PHILIP: Okay. See you then. Bye.
Philip hung up. A knock came at the door.
PHILIP: Coming!
Philip opened the door. The girl from the previous chapter is revealed to be standing behind the door.
PHILIP: Can I help you?
GIRL: You're Philip Kiriakis, right?
PHILIP: Who wants to know?
GIRL: I do. That's why I asked.
PHILIP: Well, yeah. I'm Philip Kiriakis. Why?
GIRL: I was wondering if you know where I can find Chloe.
PHILIP: Chloe lives in Chicago with my son, Parker.
GIRL: Okay, cool.
PHILIP: You look familiar. Have we met?
GIRL: Yeah. A long time ago. I'm not surprised that you don't remember me. I think the last time we saw each other, I was barely 10 years old.
PHILIP: You look a bit like Chloe, actually. Why are you looking for her?
GIRL: I just figured that since I'm near where she is for once, I would go and see her. And, the reason I look similar to her is because we're related.
PHILIP: No way! Joy?
JOY: Yup. Hey, Philip.
Philip and Joy hugged.
PHILIP: hey. Wow, the last time I saw you, you were this little kid. But now...you look great.
JOY: Thanks. I see you still have the dimples. I can see now why my sister fell in love with you.
PHILIP: Yeah, about that, is your dad still thinking about killing me?
JOY: No, he's gotten over that. Dad's kind of mellowing with age.
PHILIP: Well, that's good.
JOY: So, Chicago, huh?
PHILIP: Yep.
JOY: How long of a drive would that be?
PHILIP: About an hour south of here.
JOY: Sweet. Thanks.

I enjoyed the chapter too. LOL at Philip saying who wants to know and Joy saying I do, that's why I asked.

I guess Philip was connecting with TY, the DJ for the upcoming beach party. I loved the tie-in to Seals and Crofts Summer Breeze as well as the nod to Play Misty for Me. Well done!

Chapter 10

SALEM PLACE
The majority of the young girls in this story: Claire, Ciara, Ceri, Rhiannon, Allie, and Sydney, were sitting at a table outside the newly rebuilt Java Cafe in the middle of Salem Place.
ALLIE: All right. So, plans for the upcoming End of Summer Beach Party.
CIARA: I'm going with Theo.
CLAIRE: I'm going, I'm just not sure who with.
ALLIE: Me either.
CERI: I have a date.
SYDNEY: Me too.
RHIANNON: And I'm going with J.J.
CLAIRE: Actually, I'm really not sure why we have to have dates. The invitation never specified that you need to be part of a couple to attend.
ALLIE: You're right. It didn't.
CIARA: You don't have to have a date. It would be fun, though.
RHIANNON: Plus, Philip told us that there's gonna be some awesome music there.
ALLIE: So, they finally got a D.J. for the party?
CERI: Yup. And, if what Philip and Aunt Mel have told us is true, then it's gonna be a good one.
CLAIRE: Well, who is it?
RHIANNON: I don't know. All Philip ever tells us are his initials. T.Y.
SYDNEY: So, how do we find out this guy's name?
CERI: I guess we'll find out soon enough. Philip says he's coming into town tomorrow to start setting up his equipment.

PARK
Joy was walking around the Park. Then, she saw a familiar face.
JOY: Oh my gosh! Chloe!
Chloe and Parker had just come around the corner. The two sisters ran to each other and hugged.
CHLOE: Hey, little sis! It's so good to see you!
JOY: You too! What are you doing back in town?
CHLOE: I'm dropping Parker off at Philip's. He's staying for the beach party.
JOY: Cool. Hey, Park.
PARKER: Hey, Aunt Joy.
Joy chuckled.
JOY: I told you, you don't have to call me Aunt Joy. I'm not that much older than you.
CHLOE: So, what about you? What are you doing back in town? Is something wrong with Mom or Dad?
JOY: No, Mom and Dad are fine. Actually, I'm here for the same beach party as Parker.
CHLOE: Well, how did you hear about it?
JOY: A friend, of sorts, told me about it.
CHLOE: Of sorts? Why don't I like that phrasing?
JOY: Chloe, it's nothing to worry about.
CHLOE: Okay. Then, I suppose you won't mind me asking who this friend, of sorts, is?
JOY: Johnny DiMera.
Chloe's mouth fell open.

DIMERA MANSION
Johnny is standing in the basement of the mansion, next to a table with a sheet over it. After a moment, Dr. Baker walks into the room.
BAKER: You sure about this, kid?
JOHNNY: Absolutely. Having Joy Wesley as my date to the party is one thing. But, unveiling this at the party will be quite something. She is ready, yes?
BAKER: She should be.
JOHNNY: There can't be any mistakes, Baker. And, if there are, then you know the price you'll have to pay.
BAKER: Yes, sir. I can hardly forget with the amount of times you keep telling me.
Dr. Baker walked out of the room.
JOHNNY: This party promises to be a night to remember.

I can't even begin to imagine what Johnny and Dr. Baker are up to. I'm really enjoying this story Andre.

I always think of the song Summer Breeze when I see this thread.

Chapter 11

THE PARK
CHLOE: DiMera? Johnny DiMera? Please, tell me that this is some sick joke.
JOY: Nope. It's not a joke.
CHLOE: Are you insane? After everything that the DiMeras have done to everybody in Salem, you're really going to the party with this guy? He's the spawn of Satan, Joy!
JOY: Look, it's really not that big a deal.
CHLOE: Yes it is! You have no idea how big of a deal this is! You left Salem when you were barely a year old. I've been around this town for a while! I've heard the horror stories about the DiMera family. I've even witnessed some first hand! And now, you're going to date one of them?
JOY: Whoa! Slow down, Chloe! I never said I was going to date Johnny. I don't even like him in the first place.
CHLOE: Then, please, explain to me why you and he are going to the party with him.
JOY: Because, he had one of his creepy people fly me in from New York to tell me, not ask me, but tell me that I'm going to go to the beach party with him.
CHLOE: Whoa, whoa, whoa! He told you you were going with him? He can't do that. Unless...
JOY: Unless what?
CHLOE: What does he have on you, Joy? What did he threaten to do to you unless you accept his offer?

SALEM BEACH
A man in his early 30s with short blonde hair and a Beatles t-shirt is testing some sound equipment. This young man is the D.J. for the upcoming party. After a few minutes, Philip walks up.
PHILIP: I hope all this junk works better than the last time I asked you to spin for us.
D.J.: Oh, it should. It's been updated.
The D.J. stood up and looked over at Philip. The two men smiled and shared a dude hug.
PHILIP: T.Y.! My man!
D.J.: Philly K. How's it goin'?
PHILIP: Great, man. Great. How's the business?
D.J.: Amazing as ever. Ever since the transition to XM radio, it's been an absolute dream. How's Titan holding up?
PHILIP: Well, we're finally starting to recover from the Madison James fiasco. Things are looking up.
D.J.: That's good, man. That's good.
PHILIP: So, you think you can get all this hooked up by tomorrow?
D.J.: Yup. I'm certain of it. I've only got a few more wires to plug in, and we're set. Should only take a few more minutes.
PHILIP: Excellent. Well, when you're finished, give me a call. Mel and I'll take you out to dinner.
D.J.: All right. Sounds good.

DIMERA MANSION
Again, we are in the basement. Johnny and Dr. Baker are standing over a table with a sheet on it.
JOHNNY: And you're sure that you've got it working correctly?
BAKER: For the hunderth time, kid, yes. I followed your exact specifications to the letter.
JOHNNY: Excellent.
A hand comes out from under the sheet on the table.

Oh man, great chapter. Can't wait to find out who TY is and who is under the sheet!

I wonder if Johnny does have anything on Joy.

Loved the conversation between you the DJ and Philip. So cute.

Chapter 12

Tomorrow's the day. The day of the party. I'm super excited! I've never actually been to anything like this before. I mean, I've had birthday parties, obviously. But, I think that this will be the first party that I've ever actually looked forward to. Can't wait!

PARK
CHLOE: So, how bad is it?
JOY: He doesn't have anything on me, Chloe.
CHLOE: Then, why are you going out with him?
Joy sighed.
JOY: I already told you, I'm not going out with him. I don't even like him. We're just going to the dance together. That's all.
CHLOE: But what I don't understand is why.
JOY: I owe him a favor. That's why.
CHLOE: Why do you owe him a favor.
JOY: Remember when I went to summer camp that one year when I was 17? The year that I was having...issues. Well, Johnny just happened to be at the same summer camp. And, he helped me with some of my issues.
CHLOE: And now he expects you to go out with him as a thank you?
JOY: Yeah. Trust me, I'm fully aware that he's using me.
CHLOE: And, you're okay with that?
JOY: Well...
CHLOE: Joy, what's happened to you? What's happened to my little sister? The girl who wouldn't take any c*@p from anybody, especially not a DiMera. Because, you deserve much much better than Johnny DiMera.
JOY: You're right. And, I'm gonna go tell him that. Thanks, Chloe.
Chloe and Joy hugged.
CHLOE: Anytime, little sis.

DIMERA MANSION
It didn't take long for Joy to get to the Mansion. She and Johnny were now standing in the living room.
JOHNNY: You're canceling?
JOY: Yep. That's right.
JOHNNY: But, that's impossible. You can't cancel on me! I'm Giovanni DiMera! Nobody cancels on me!
JOY: Yeah, well I'm Joy Wesley, and I just did. And, you know what, I don't really give a d@*n.
JOHNNY: Need I remind you of summer camp when you were 17?
JOY: Oh, I remember that year quite clearly. And, I seem to recall that you were a lot nicer when you were 13. Now, you're a jerk. And I don't hang with jerks. I'll see you at the beach, but I'm not gonna be going there with you.
JOHNNY: This isn't over, Joy!
JOY: Oh, I think it is. See ya later, Johnny.
Joy walked out.
JOHNNY: Well, now I need to think of some revenge for Joy. She will regret the day that she crossed Giovanni DiMera. But first, I must attend to my plans for the beach party tomorrow.
Johnny pressed a button on his watch.
JOHNNY: Baker! Bring her up to me.
After a moment, Dr. Baker entered the living room with a young girl next to him. The girl's face is obscured by a veil. Johnny chuckled.
JOHNNY: Excellent. Tomorrow shall be a day to remember.
