Jack: But Jennifer, you’ve chosen me. You’re only pushing me away because you’re afraid.
Jennifer: Where do you come up with these things?
Jack: I ran into Daniel. He told me you and he weren’t together anymore. That means you chose me!
Jennifer: Wrong, clown-breath. I didn’t break up with Daniel.
Jack: But he said ...
Jennifer: Daniel broke up with me.
Jack: What???
Jennifer: You heard me the first time, and I’m not going to say it again.
Jack: Is he crazy? How could he break up with you? You’re the most amazing woman in the world. He must have had a stroke or something because no one in their right mind would give you up willingly.
Jennifer: You did.
Jack was silent for a long moment.
Jack: Like I said, no one in their right mind.
Jennifer: Well, he did. He’s going through some things right now, and he just ... he needs his life to be less complicated.
Jack: And what do you need?
Jennifer: I don’t know. I don’t know what I need. But I do know that I don’t need a man who deserts me, who isn’t honest with me, who doesn’t know how to have a grown-up relationship.
Jack: I see. Well, if that’s how you feel, I’ll be on my way. Goodnight Jennifer.
Jennifer: Goodnight Jack.

SALEM INN, THAT NIGHT
Jack paced in his room at the Salem Inn. He was talking out loud to himself, coming up with lesson plans, but he wasn’t happy with them. He was having a hard time concentrating with everything that was going on in his life. A knock at the door disrupted his thoughts. He answered the door.
Jack: Austin!
Austin: Hey Jack, I brought a nightcap.
Jack: A bottle of bourbon?
Austin: I guess it’s just as much for me as for you. Got any glasses?
Jack: Just a glass for my mouthwash.
Austin: That’s what I figured, so I brought some paper cups.
Austin poured himself and Jack a couple drinks.
Jack: Something tells me that this isn’t entirely a social call.
Austin: Um, yeah, you’re right. Abigail called me. She told me you know about us. So I figured I should come talk to you before you rearrange my face.
Jack: You never know. It might be an improvement.
Austin: I don’t blame you for being mad, but it’s not what you’re thinking.
Jack: It never is.
Austin: Abigail and I aren’t having an affair.
Jack: Really? Then why does she think you are.
Austin: Did she say we are?
Jack: Well, no, not in so many words, but I just ...
Austin: Assumed? You know what happens when you assume.
Jack: Making an ass out of myself is nothing new. Are you saying my daughter takes after me?
Austin: No! Not at all. Um, sorry. I didn’t mean that the way it sounded. Abigail’s a wonderful girl and ... she thinks she’s in love with me. I’ve reminded her I’m married ... repeatedly, but she seems to think that’s just a temporary condition.
Jack: I’m not surprised, considering her role models.
Austin: I’ve done my best to discourage her, Jack. I swear, I’m not leading her on. She’s my student assistant, and that’s all.
Jack: Perhaps you should get yourself a different student assistant so you wouldn’t be in such close proximity all the time.
Austin: That’s a good idea. I’ll do that.
Jack: Good.
Austin: Well, I’ll be going.
Jack: Austin, wait.
Austin: Yes?
Jack: I’m a father first.
Austin: Huh?
Jack: I’m a professor and a journalist and an erstwhile husband and ... I’m sometimes an ass, but I’m a father first. And I’m going to be keeping an eye on you. So mind your Ps and Qs.
Austin: I hear ya. See you tomorrow, Jack.

I swear while I was watching their scenes on the show yesterday, I had to think twice (ok, maybe 4 or 5 times actually) about what was the real story and what was your fanfic. It's just so real that my brain can barely distinguish between the two. Is this what crazy feels like?  |

It's just so real that my brain can barely distinguish between the two. Is this what crazy feels like? No, it's what plagiarism feels like. I think the producers hacked into my computer. I wrote this story 2 months ago and ... Grrrr, the show that's airing is eerily close to my fanfic (I know you know how that feels, DD!). PLUS it's airing at the exact same time. Get my lawyer on the line. LOL. |

Thanks for the double chapters today Kpatch. I liked it that Austin went to talk to Jack about Abby. Jennifer needs to figure her life out.
