SALEM UNIVERSITY
Jack: Abby, wait! Abby: I have to go, Daddy. I’ll be late for my next class. Jack: Abigail, I know you think you’re all grown up and that your dear old dad can’t tell you anything you don’t already know, but ... Abby: Please Daddy, whatever you have to say, I’ve already said to myself. But ... this is different. It really is. Jack: Abigail, you’re playing with fire. Abby: Professor Reed isn’t like other men. He’s sweet and caring and sensitive. Jack: And married. Abby: He understands me in a way that no one else does. Jack: I just don’t want you to get hurt. I want to protect you. Abby: I know you do, Daddy, but please don’t worry about me. I’ll be fine. She kissed her father. Abby: Oh, and please don’t say anything about this to mom. I don’t want to worry her. Jack: Oh, um, of course not. No sense in getting her upset too. Abby: Thanks Daddy. See you later.
It was so hard for Jack to let Abigail be an adult. He still thought of her as his little girl. Deep down he knew that trying too hard to make up for lost time would only serve to push her away. Whether he liked it or not, she did a lot of growing up without him. He’d have to accept that she was a woman -- a young woman, but a woman nonetheless. But he didn’t need to accept her relationship with a married man.
“WWJD,” he thought to himself. Jack: What Would Jennifer Do?
He thought about their date last weekend. He took her to the circus. Jennifer loved the circus... at least she used to.
***Flashback to last weekend’s date at the circus*** Jack: Don’t you just love this? The roar of the greasepaint, the smell of the crowd. Jennifer: It’s the other way around. Jack: Who cares? It’s the circus! Cotton candy? He took a pinch of cotton candy and hovered it above Jennifer’s face, making circles in the air with it. Jennifer: No thanks. Jack: What? But you love cotton candy. Jennifer: I’ve changed Jack. I don’t love the same things I used to love. Jack: Okay, but it’s your loss. ... It’s like a three-ring circus in here. Jennifer: That’s because it is a three-ring circus. Jack: What happened to your sense of humor? Jennifer: Pretty much, it left me the last time you left me. Jack: Oh. We’re going to talk about that again, are we? Please let me know when you’re done extracting your pound of flesh. Jennifer: I’ll let you know, but it won’t be anytime soon. Jack: Come on, Jennifer, lighten up. We’re at the circus. There’s no place on earth that’s more fun than the circus. Jennifer: If you’re 12. Jack: You don’t have to be 12 to love the circus. You always used to love coming here. Remember the time ... Jennifer: You’re right, Jack. I used to love coming here. But that changed. I’ve changed. The circus isn’t my idea of a romantic date. Jack: I see. Jennifer: Aren’t you going to ask me what my idea of a romantic date is? Jack: Please, Miss Horton, tell me. What is your idea of a romantic date? Jennifer: Well, something quiet. Or something interactive. Jack: Interactive? Jennifer: Yes, like ice skating. Daniel is taking me ice skating tomorrow. Jack: Ah yes, the good doctor. The man who can do no wrong. Jennifer: You don’t have to be sarcastic, you know. Jack: You’re right. My apologies. Are you sure you don’t want some cotton candy. It’s delicious. Jennifer: Let’s get out of here. Jack: What? Why? Jennifer: Let’s just leave. ***End of flashback***
The date ended pretty much the same way all their dates end, with Jennifer treating him like a little kid who she’s run out of patience with. Or is it "with whom she's run out of patience"? Hmmm. Jack snapped back to the present as the students from his next class filed into the room.
To be continued Monday ...

WWJD - What would Jennifer do? Love it!
Well, Jenny is still being a total shrew, though I will admit that the circus isn't exactly romantic. Still, at least Jack is trying.
Great story, jkjpatch!

I think going to the circus would be a GREAT date! Of course, I'm not a shrew like Jennifer (at least I hope I'm not).

Poor Jack. He's trying to figure out Jennifer and now he has to deal with Abby seeing Austin. I am really enjoying this story.
Pretty please may we have a preview? The coconut rum is on it's way! Thanks Kpatch.

All dates do not have to be romantic... they can be fun & the circus is fun. Jennifer you need to start laughing again!

I am next in line to slap Jen. She is so bad to Jack. Love the chapters Kpatch. So hard that Abby is in Jack's class. (hard to treat her like all the other students in the class) Love that Jack just blurted out about the married man part and how he covered it up. Ohh I would love a date at the circus with Jack. Almound Joys in exchange for previews please.
