I absolutely love this relationship between Philip and Henderson!
I'm glad Nicole isn't going with Parker and Philip. I had really hoped he wasn't considering Nicole's request.

Aw, nice scene with Nicole and Philip. I like them as friends, and I don't think a marriage of convenience would be the worst thing for either of them if they want to raise Parker and Holly as siblings with two parents. Other than that, I'd rather they just agree to co-parent as friends and if romance happens, than it will unfold naturally.
I am as anxious as Parker! I know they'll pick out the best pupper for the family!

I'm glad Nicole is understanding about Philip wanting to go alone with Parker to get the dog.

Chapter 508b
Driving to the shelter, Philip said, “I spoke to Grandma Maggie and Henderson and they’re cool with you getting a dog. But I told them that the dog will be your responsibility. And there are a lot of responsibilities that come with owning a dog, you know. They have to be walked several times a day. You have to feed them and give them water and attention and exercise. The dog may need training. We should look into that and—.”
“I know. You already told me!” Parker whined, surprising Philip. Parker stared out the car window. “You sound like Mommy.”
Philip sighed. He always used to think of himself as the fun parent while Chloe was more of a rule enforcer. Now he was forced to be both. “Sorry kiddo.” He reached over and ruffled Parker’s hair. “I don’t mean to take the fun out of it.”
“Did you ever have a dog when you were little?”
“No.”
“Didn’t you want one?”
The only thing Philip really wanted as a kid was for his parents to get back together. “I don’t really remember wanting a dog.”
“That means this’ll be your first dog too,” Parker reasoned.
“Yes, I guess it will.”
“So it’ll be fun for you too.”
Philip smiled while keeping his eyes on the road. “You’re right. It’ll be fun for both of us.”
~~
Walking from the car to the Shelter, Parker held Philip’s hand and asked his father, “Can we get two dogs?”
“We’re getting just one dog,” Philip replied, his tone definitive.
“Maybe we should get a little dog for Nicole. Did you know she had a dog named Pookie that died?”
“Nice try, Parker.” He squeezed the child’s hand. “Let’s choose a dog and make it part of the family first. And we can think about a name for him or her on our way home.”

Chapter 508c
The shelter was busy today. Turns out they were running a half-price promotion where the price of adoption included all the required shots and flea treatments plus a free bag of Blue Buffalo food appropriate for the dog’s age and size.
Philip and Parker went from kennel to kennel and it was clear Parker was smitten with each and every dog he saw. But he gasped when he stood in front of one of them. “Daddy look!”
Philip came closer and read the tag on the cage. “It says it’s a Bernedoodle.”
Parker giggled. “What kind of dog is that?”
“I’m not sure,” Philip admitted.
A lady who worked at the shelter approached them. “I see you’ve fallen in love with Bernie.”
“Isn’t a Bernedoodle a purebred?” Philip asked.
“Yes indeed.” As she opened the cage, she explained, “He’s a purebred miniature Bernedoodle and he was surrendered by a family whose kids turned out to be allergic. Bernedoodles are usually hypoallergenic but some people are more sensitive to allergies than others.” She petted the dog and said, “He just came in this morning and I can guarantee he won’t be here long.” She looked around. “One of these nice people is certain to take him home today.”
“He’s cute,” Parker decided.
The woman lifted the dog out of his cage. “He’s about four months old, 20 pounds and already housebroken.” As she spoke, she attached a leash to the dog’s collar and handed it to Parker. “At full size, he’ll be about 30 pounds.”
Parker immediately hugged the pup.
The woman smiled. “Seems like fate that you and Bernie both happened to come in today.”
“I think my son has found a new best friend. What do you think, Parker?”
“I want to keep him,” Parker exclaimed joyfully.
“Excellent! I’ll draw up the adoption papers and provide you with Bernie’s pedigree papers.”
As she led them toward the front desk, the woman slowed down to walk beside Philip. “I’m a certified dog trainer and I’d be happy to come to your home to provide personalized attention. I mean lessons.” She reached into her pocket and stopped to face Philip. Pressing her business card into Philip’s palm, she flirtatiously said, “Call me.”

Hey friends. Thank you for reading and commenting all week. Let's keep it going.
Here are some previews for the coming week.
-Parker chooses a name for his dog. Any guesses? -Jennifer gets an unexpected phone call, leading her to seek advice and approval from a trusted friend. Who do you think the call is from and who does she turn to for advice? -John continues to agonize over Brady’s predicament, giving Marlena an idea. What might that idea be?
