I wonder what Austin wants to talk about and if Carrie will confess that she cheated.

hmmm... I wonder why Emily wouldn't try to give some kind of signal to Rafe since Gary was across the room whens he lied to him. There has to be more to this story!

CARRIE: (Rubs her eyes) We do? AUSTIN: I think I want to stay in Switzerland. CARRIE: What?!? AUSTIN: Basic Black has offered me a permanent position here, and, frankly, I prefer Switzerland to Salem. CARRIE: But, I’m happier with my family. AUSTIN: Then, perhaps, it would be better if you stayed there. Let’s be honest. We haven’t been connected in a long time. Maybe this is for the best. CARRIE: (Sighs) Maybe. AUSTIN: I’m sorry, Carrie. CARRIE: Me too.
Carrie hangs up the phone. She lays her head down on the pillow and curls up into a ball. She doesn’t see Rafe walk in.
RAFE: (Quietly) Everything ok? CARRIE: (Softly crying) No. Austin wants to stay in Switzerland. It’s really over. RAFE: (Crosses to her) I’m sorry. CARRIE: (Wipes her eyes) No, I’m sorry. You just lost your son today, in a manner of speaking. And here I am blubbering about my failed marriage. RAFE: We’re a couple of sad sacks, aren’t we? CARRIE: (Half-smiles) I guess so. RAFE: Is there anything I can do? CARRIE: (Looks up with tears in her eyes) Would you mind holding me? Just for a little while? RAFE: Not at all.
Rafe lays down on his back, next to her. She places her head in the crook of his shoulder and lets her arm fall across his chest. Rafe mindlessly strokes her hair. They both are lost in their sadness, giving no thought to anything romantic. Soon, they are both asleep.
AUTHOR'S NOTE: Tune in tomorrow for the conclusion to "The Heart Won't Lie."

Wow, neither Carrie or Austin seems to want to fight for their marriage at all...
So glad these Carrie & Rafe realize that sex isn't always the answer.

Awww that's so sweet.
Boy Austin sure rolled over quickly on giving up on their marriage. Do I perhaps see another story being in the works for when Carrie & Rafe return to Salem?

Oh wow, so many emotions going on. Thank you for shipping Austin off to Switzerland permanently. That was on my wish list. I wonder where Rafe and Carrie go from here, figuratively and literally. I'm looking forward to the chapter and hopefully more sequels.

Beautiful ending to today's chapter, DD. Just a show of unselfish compassion is sometimes all one needs from another. Lovely touch. Am so looking forward to the conclusion.... but please continue with the story, I can't wait to see where it takes us!

THE NEXT MORNING Rafe awakens to find Carrie still curled in the crook of his arm. She is sleeping soundly. He lays a gentle kiss on her forehead and moves to get up. He does his best not to wake her and manages to slip out of bed unnoticed. He heads into the living room area of the multi-room suite and calls room service for some breakfast. While he waits, he goes back into the bedroom and watches Carrie sleep. Her golden hair spills over the pillow; her arm, casually thrown over her head. Rafe is surprised at the leap his heart makes. This woman has awakened something deep inside him; something he’d long buried. With Sami, he was the guy that saved the day. But there was always something missing from their relationship. It had always seemed unbalanced to him and he was only now able to admit to himself. With Carrie, however, they are partners in every sense of the word. He realizes, in that moment, that Sami is not his match. Carrie is. And, when he returns to Salem, things are going to change. The phone rings. Rafe hurries to answer it before it wakes Carrie.RAFE: (Hushed) Hello? SHANE: Rafe? Shane. I’m calling to let you know that you and Carrie are in the clear. RAFE: In the clear? What do you mean? SHANE: We discovered a tip last night from an undercover agent. Gary was the intended target all along. Emily was caught in the crossfire. RAFE: Gary was the target? I don’t understand. SHANE: The Gravinas went after him when they discovered his involvement with the de Lucas. RAFE: But I thought the Gravinas family had dissolved. Didn’t the head of the family die in prison? SHANE: He did – six months ago. But his son was quietly running everything and fought to bring the family back to its original glory. He blamed Gary and vowed revenge. Emily was, once again, just in the wrong place at the wrong time. RAFE: (Runs his fingers through his hair) Geez. What a mess. And it was an undercover agent that gave you all this? SHANE: The warning actually came in last week. If it had been processed quicker, we might have been able to save Emily. As it was, it just took too long for the message to get to the right person. I’m so sorry. RAFE: Hey man. I can’t knock you for anything. You’ve been a big help. I can’t imagine where we’d be right now if you weren’t there to grease the wheels. I seriously can’t thank you enough. SHANE: Well, just keep an eye on that niece of mine and we’ll call it even. RAFE: (Not bothering to clarify whether he means Carrie or Sami) You got it. She means the world to me. They exchange goodbyes and, as Rafe hangs up the phone, Carrie walks in. She looks bleary eyed and pale.RAFE: Good morning. Want some coffee? CARRIE: (Not really hearing him) I’m late. RAFE: No you’re not. Breakfast is on it's way. Want pancakes? CARRIE: No. You don’t get it. I’m late. THE END …..or is it…… AUTHOR’S NOTE: Thank you for reading this Carrie and Rafe trilogy. I had a blast writing it. I’ll admit, I strayed a bit further away from the show than I’d originally planned, but the story took me along for the ride. I was helpless to stop it. As for the next story, I have to take a little break to recharge my batteries and see where these two folks want to go. As soon as they start talking to me again, I’ll be sure to write it all down, but until then, I have to wait just like you do.
PS. I didn't set out to conciously name one of the crime families after Lucas. It really was just an accident. I heard the name "de Luca" and thought it would be cool. It wasn't untill much later that I realized the plural would be "de LUCAS." Guess I'm more excited about his return than I thought.
