PROLOGUE

SALEM CITY PARK, THREE MONTHS AGO

Father Matt: I understand you want to christen Parker with a new name.
Chloe: That’s right.
Father Matt: What name have you given the child?
Chloe: Wesley. Wesley Lane Kiriakis.

After the Christening, the group walks to the tree with the carving “P&C 4 Ever.”
Philip: It’s time for Wesley’s parents to make it official.
Father Matt: Is there anything you’d like to say to each other before we continue?
Philip: I’ve got a lot to say ... About a dozen years ago, I lost a bet. He takes Chloe’s hands in his. Losing that bet turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to me. It made me take a second look at you, Chloe. And now, yours is the face I want to see when I wake up every day, and before I fall asleep every night, and every minute in between.
Chloe: Philip, it’s my fault that it took us this long to get together ...
Philip: Chloe sweetie, don’t ...
Chloe: It’s okay, because I know that it makes me appreciate you more. Want to hear something funny? You know that big crush I had on you in high school?
Philip: I was a big jerk in high school. I treated you like crap.
Chloe: Stop. See, the thing is, I still have a big crush on you. And you still rock my world. But the best part is ... you’re not a jerk anymore. Philip laughs. There’s a kind and tender side of you that most people don’t get to see. But I see it every day.
Philip: Wow, don’t lose the rose-colored glasses.
Chloe’s eyes fill with tears.
Chloe: I’m not worried. I’ve known you too long and I know you too well. I think the only surprises in our lives are going to be good ones.
Philip: I hope you’re right. We deserve to be happy. I’ll do anything to make you and our son happy.
Chloe: You already do. I don’t need a lot of things, remember? I can get by with nothing. ‘Cause I’ve got all I want when it comes to loving you.
Now Philip gets teary-eyed.
Philip: I remember. Our song. And listening to you talk just now ...
Chloe: That’s another thing. You actually listen to me!
Philip [laughing]: I do. And I’m starting to realize that there was a reason it took us so long to get here. I think we needed to go through all of those experiences -- finding other loves, losing other loves -- so we could find each other again. You were my first love, and now you’re my last.
Chloe: I think I just thought of the right thing to say to make you realize that you’re the only man for me. Remember when we were on the plane coming back from Ireland? You asked me how many times I’ve been in love. Really in love. I can now admit to you there were three times. And they were all with you.
Philip and Chloe are both in tears.
Philip: I love you so much, Chloe Lane.
Chloe: I love you more.
Philip: I seriously doubt that. Thank you for making my dreams come true.
Philip takes Chloe in his arms and kisses her.
Father Matt: I guess this is the part where I pronounce you husband and wife.

Thanks for an amazing prologue. I simply cannot wait until Wednesday. I feel like I have been waiting a lifetime for this sequel. Even though it has only been a couple of weeks.

PHILIP AND CHLOE’S HOME

It’s been about three months since Philip and Chloe got married. Philip, Chloe, and their son Wesley have moved into a beautiful old Tudor home in the Park Hill district, a suburb about 20 minutes from downtown Salem. Philip and Chloe are having breakfast while Wesley is playing in his high chair.
Philip: That kid’s got more energy than the Salem Power and Light Company.
Chloe: I know. He’s not even a year old. Is it wrong to be nervous about the Terrible Twos already?
Philip: I’m excited about his first birthday party. But I really think you should have hired a party planner.
Chloe: I’m not hiring a party planner for a 1 year old’s birthday party. I don’t want to be like those women who hire party planners for baby birthdays or let a nanny raise their child.
Philip: What’s wrong with nannies? I had a great one.
Chloe: Well, in your case, a nanny was an improvement over your mother.
Philip: I just don’t want you wearing yourself out. Between your work on completing the opera house, taking care of Wesley, and planning his birthday party ... you need to make sure you’re doing something for you.
Chloe: I thought I knew everything there was to know about you, but I don’t think I knew you were this much of a worry-wort. You don’t need to worry, Philip. I love our baby and I really enjoy taking care of him.
Philip: I know that. I just want you to feel ... fulfilled.
Chloe: I do. Philip, we’ve discussed this. Once Wesley starts school, then I can start to think about a career again. But until then, I want to be here for him full-time. I want him to be raised by his parents, not some strangers. Besides, what more could a girl want than what I’ve got? I have all I need.
Philip: Well, now I’m feeling guilty for needing to go out of town.
Chloe: Don’t you dare feel guilty. Someone needs to pay the bills and that’s what we count on you for.
Philip: I was hoping you counted on me for a little bit more than just being the bill-payer.
Chloe: Silly. We count on you for a lot more than that. I don’t know what I ever did without you.
Philip: Well, you’re never going to have to worry about that again, except of course for business trips here and there.
Chloe: How long is this trip?
Philip: I have a stockholders meeting to conduct in Europe. I’m scheduled to be gone five days, but I’m going to do everything I can to wrap it up in three days so I can be back home with my family.
Chloe: Good. Make sure you give my regards to Vienna.
Philip: I’m gonna miss the two of you like crazy.
Chloe: Not as much as we’re going to miss you. Especially me. I love you.
Philip: I love you more.
Chloe: I seriously doubt that.
They kiss and Philip leaves for the airport.

Wow. This is super. So glad that I waited till today to look. Love that Chloe and Philip are so happy. I am worried that Philip is going on a plane. Everything is going just a bit to well. Thanks for the chapter.
