Great interactions and realistic dialogue. I loved how Sami backed off when Rafe started asking too many questions. And I loved how you wrote Austin not paying attention to Carrie and falling asleep before she came to bed.
By the way, I've also been humming the song "Sam" since yesterday. Just realized that Sam could be Sami. LOL.
Thanks for the chapter DD!

OFFICES OF CARRAFE INVESTIGATIONS
Rafe is sitting at his desk in the back office. Carrie comes through the front door and makes her way back to his office.
CARRIE: (somewhat awkwardly) Good morning. RAFE: (looks up from his computer, smiling) Good morning. CARRIE: Um, I had a nice time last night. I’ve never danced like that in my life. RAFE: Yeah, me too. I mean, I had a good time too. CARRIE: What did Sami think about it? RAFE: (rubs the back of his neck) Well, she wasn’t too pleased, but she settled down after a little while. When I told her this morning that we’re going back for another class she wished me luck and kissed me goodbye. CARRIE: Wow. I thought she would’ve been really mad. RAFE: Oh, she was. But in a flash she let it go. Sort of makes me wonder if she’s a bit bi-polar. CARRIE: (laughs) You know, I’ve always wondered if she was. RAFE: What did Austin say? CARRIE: Austin? (her eyes start to water) Oh, well, he didn’t have too much to say. RAFE: (notices tears) What? He didn’t say anything? CARRIE: (turns away from him, wipes eyes) No. He was really busy, so I’m not surprised. Besides, I’m used to it. RAFE: You’re used to it? What does that mean? CARRIE: I’m used to him not paying too much attention to me. (looks back at Rafe) He’s not like you. I mean, how you are with Sami. RAFE: How can he not pay attention to you? CARRIE: He’s always busy with his computer doing work. Sometimes it’s like I don’t exist. I can’t stand it. (shrugs) But what can I do? RAFE: That’s crazy. Have you talked to him about it? CARRIE: Yes, I’ve asked him, more times that I can count, to put away the computer and go somewhere with me, but he just won’t do it. (sits down and starts to cry in earnest) I’m so miserable. And now I’m unloading it all on you. I’m so sorry. RAFE: (goes to her side and wraps an arm around her shoulders) Hey now. You cry as much as you need to. CARRIE: (sobbing now) I’m so embarrassed. I don’t know where this is coming from. It just hit me all at once. RAFE: (lifts her chin) You deserve to be happy. And what you’re feeling right now is nothing to be embarrassed about. CARRIE: (stares into his eyes) You’re so different than him. I wish….. RAFE: (stares back) Yeah, I wish too….

Ooh this is so good. You've got me hoping this is how it will play out on air! I probably shouldn't have laughed at the line about Sami being bipolar, but I did.
Thanks DD. I can't wait for more!

LATER THAT DAY
CARRIE: If we’re going to make that dance class we need to get going. RAFE: You’re right. CARRIE: Did you lock the back door? RAFE: Yes, dear. (winks) And I even remembered to wear a tie this time. CARRIE: Ha ha. Very funny. (fixes his tie) Listen up, Randy. We have to get some pictures this time. Nancy is going to want proof of what we’ve found. RAFE: (puts his hands on her shoulders) Thank you, Joan. I’ve already put the camera in the car. CARRIE: Good, then let’s get going.
MISS MILLIE’S STUDIO
MILLIE: Welcome back you two! Did y’all have a good time yesterday? CARRIE: (arm in arm with Rafe) Yes, we did. We’re really excited to see what we might learn tonight. MILLIE: Well, you are in luck sugar. My ace student, Martin, is teaching a beginner Tango class. It is THE dance of love and passion. I think you two will especially enjoy it. RAFE: (rubs Carrie’s hand) I’m sure we will. CARRIE: (smiles at Rafe) Me too. MILLIE: Y’all are just so cute. I don’t think I’ve seen a couple more in love than you two in a long time. It just makes my heart sing. CARRIE: (blushes) Well, thank you. How long until class starts? MILLIE: About 2 minutes. Y’all relax and get your dancing shoes on! RAFE: Yes ma’am. (waits for Millie to walk away) Tango, huh? This should be interesting. CARRIE: I’ve seen it on those dancing shows. It’s a pretty steamy dance. RAFE: (holds out his hand for her) Then let’s go make some steam.
Martin begins teaching the class and Carrie and Rafe have no trouble picking up the steps. They move together with perfect grace. The other students in class can’t help but watch as Rafe and Carrie melt together. Soon, every eye in the room is drawn to them as they seemingly radiate passion. The other women start jabbing their partners and saying “Why don’t you hold ME like that?” When the class breaks for five minutes, Rafe and Carrie take the opportunity to chat with Martin.
MARTIN: Hey, you guys are really good for beginners. Really hot. RAFE: Thanks. Oh, and great class, man. MARTIN: Thank you. It’s my first time teaching. CARRIE: First time? No way. MARTIN: Yeah, Millie likes to get her advanced students to teach the beginner classes sometimes. It’s a way for us to practice our fundamentals without it being so boring like it would be on a private lesson. (realizes what he’s just said) I’m sorry. I don’t mean to imply that teaching this class is boring. It certainly isn’t. RAFE: It’s cool. I don’t think either of us took it that way. How long have you been dancing? MARTIN: For about 4 months now. I came in on a whim. Really it was to pick up a gift certificate for my wife. But I decided to take some classes on my own, before I brought her in, and ended up falling in love with it. There’s just something about it. I don’t know how to explain it. CARRIE: So, where is your wife? (looks around) Is she here? MARTIN: No. I still haven’t told her what I’m doing. CARRIE: After four months? She still doesn’t know? (looks down) I’m sorry. It’s none of my business. MARTIN: (laughs) No, no. It’s ok. It’s a fair question. I keep waiting for “just the right moment” but it never seems to come. I’m a bit of a perfectionist, and sometimes that bites me in the butt. RAFE: You mentioned that you take private lessons too. How does that work? MARTIN: Being the perfectionist that I am, I come quite a bit. Sometimes I’ll come two-three hours every day. Miss Millie is my partner/teacher and we work together on making my dancing the best it can be. CARRIE: Wow. Well, you certainly look fantastic. MARTIN: Thanks. Looks like break time is over. Let’s get back to class.
Carrie holds Rafe back.
CARRIE: Lessons two-three hours every day? Lessons are $90 an hour. That would explain the $2000 a month expense. RAFE: I was thinking the same thing. Dang. This stuff is expensive. Come on. Class is starting.
