Chapter 8e
Chloe closed the door behind her as she left Philip’s office. She headed toward the other side of the floor to take the spiral staircase from the 16th floor where the executive offices were down to the 15th floor where she worked and where the daycare center was located. But she stopped in her tracks as she walked past the main conference room. She turned and stared at the closed door for a moment.
She just couldn't do as Philip had asked. "Sorry Philip, but I can't just let this go." she whispered to herself. Taking a deep breath she walked up to the door. She didn’t bother knocking. She merely turned the handle, stepped inside the conference room and slammed the door.
She glared at Victor sitting in a big leather chair, with that annoying half-grump/half-smirk expression on his face. Victor looked up nonchalantly. “I don’t recall asking to see you, but as long as you’re here, tell me, has Philip come to his senses?”
She moved closer to where he was seated, but made sure to keep the width of the conference table between them. Once she was directly across from him, she said, “I don’t know what you’re talking about right now, but I have a few things to say to you.”
He waved her off and looked back down at some papers in front of him. “I’m not interested in anything you have to say unless it’s good bye.”
“I’d be happy to say goodbye to you, Victor. I’d even escort you out the door.”
He looked up again and she could see his anger rising. “And I’ll have HR escort you out for insubordination.”
She wasn’t having any of it. “Oh stuff it Victor.” She gripped the chair she was standing behind and leaned forward. “You know something? I actually used to be scared of you back when I was dating Philip in high school and even when I was married to Brady, but looking at you now, I don’t feel any fear at all. I’m onto you Victor, and I know your bark is way worse than your bite.”
“Is that so?” he said, leaning back in his chair. “That only proves you’re not very bright, Chloe, because I have the power to fire you. Both you and Philip, and I’m not afraid to use that power. How’s that for a bite?”
Chloe picked up a notepad from the conference table and angrily slammed it down on the middle of the table, unaware she just hit the key on the conference phone that enabled the paging system. “And that is exactly what I want to talk to you about.”

Well, the truth is going to come out now. I wonder how Chloe will feel when she finds out that Philip only told her half a story.
I think all of Titan is going to hear this confrontation. This is going to be very interesting.

I KNEW Philip should have told her everything!! this is not going to end well - one for Philip not telling Chloe the truth and two for Chloe confronting Victor. I sure hope that Philip can get down there and turn the paging system off before too much is said for the entire company to hear.

Previews
Love everyone’s comments and engagement with this story. Thank you! Did you catch the little tie-in with the title on Wednesday when Philip was talking about Victor and said: “I know, but he always favored Brady, and most anyone who’s not me. What can I say? That’s the story of my life.”
Some of my favorite vignettes are coming up and I’m excited to share them with you! This week …
Philip gets a surprise visitor.
He tries to avoid answering some uncomfortable questions that catch him off-guard.
Chloe gives Victor a piece of her mind — until he drops a bombshell!

Chapter 9a
Philip sat on the corner of his desk staring at nothing in particular. He was thinking about heading downstairs, collecting Chloe and Parker, getting away from this place as fast as possible, going home, and pouring himself a well-deserved drink.
Approving of that idea, he nodded and went behind his desk. He was about to power down his laptop when the intercom buzzed.
Tracy’s voice came through the speaker. “Philip, I’m about to leave for the day but I wanted to let you know that your mother just arrived.”
Philip’s stomach turned. Just when he thought this day couldn’t get any worse. “My mother???”
He heard a woman’s voice in the background, but he couldn’t make out what was being said. “I’m so sorry, Mrs. Kiriakis. Um Philip,” Tracy said through the speaker. “Sorry, my bad. It’s not your mother. It’s your father’s wife.” Philip exhaled, relieved to hear it was Maggie. “Send her in.” He opened the door and greeted Maggie with a hug. “Good to see you, Maggie.” He motioned for her to come in, then turned to Tracy and gave her a quick wave. “Thanks Tracy. Have a good night.”
When he turned back to Maggie, she had just kicked off her shoes and was sitting on the couch rubbing the sole of her foot through her stocking. His brow knit. “You okay?”
“Oh I’m perfectly fine. But I have to say, as cosmopolitan as Salem has become since I moved there ….” She thought for a minute …. “forty-five years ago! Oh my goodness, has it really been that long?” Sitting on the corner of his desk, Philip smiled and shrugged. Finishing her thought, she said, “There is nothing like shopping in a major city like Chicago—except for the sore feet.”
“I noticed a few shopping bags out by Tracy’s desk. You bought out Neiman Marcus, didn’t you?”
Laughing, Maggie said, “Not quite, but close. Those bags aren’t even the half of it. Those are just the ones for Parker. I had everything else shipped home.” She looked at Philip and cocked her head. “You look tense, Philip. Everything okay with you?”
Philip nodded slowly. “Sure.”
“You’re not exactly convincing me.”

YES! Maggie's going to hear the whole exchange between Chloe and Victor, isn't she? Plus, I think before that it's good for Maggie and Philip to chat. She may give him some good advice....

Philip won't be able to sugar coat it for Maggie. So glad to hear that she will find out what her husband is up to sooner rather than later.
