Chapter 8c
Chloe’s eyes were filled with concern as they took a seat. He stroked her face and smiled sadly. It took him a moment to collect his thoughts and figure out exactly what he wanted to say. “Well, you’re looking at the soon-to-be ex-CEO of Titan Media.”
Her jaw dropped. She automatically rose to her feet. “He fired you?” He could practically see the steam coming out of her ears. “He fired you?” Her voice grew louder. “Oh my god, is he still here? Where is he?”
“Yeah, he’s still here. Working out of Conference Room A until further notice,” Philip said flatly.
“You do not deserve this! He is not getting away with this.” She turned and started walking toward the door, but he caught her hand.
“Chloe wait. Don’t. Let it go.”
“Let it go?? What are you talking about ‘let it go’? Aren’t you going to fight him?”
Philip shook his head. “I tried. I lost.”
Chloe sat down again, her brow knit. “Philip, this doesn’t make any sense. We’ve worked so hard to get Titan Media to where it is. We’re closing in on iTunes for music downloads. We’re talking to Titan’s publishing division about partnering on audio books. Our first web series is going to debut in January. We’re just getting started! We have a million plans. He can’t do this to us.”
Philip looked at Chloe for a long moment. He was heartened that she saw this as something that was happening to “us” and not just to him. It meant they were finally back to being a unit and strengthened his resolve about walking away from Titan.
Still, she was right. This whole thing made no sense. His father’s ultimatum that he break up with Chloe was sick and cruel and incomprehensible and he couldn’t bring himself to tell Chloe that part of the story. He knew that honesty was critical in their relationship, but this was too hateful and unforgivable. Philip wasn’t sure if by omitting that detail he was protecting Chloe or protecting his father. Someday, Philip would probably forgive Victor — Victor was his father after all — but Chloe never would. Someday he would tell Chloe the truth, but not here and not now. “Actually he can,” Philip finally responded. “He’s still chairman of the board and if he wants Brady at the helm instead—”
“Brady??”

Well, I was kind of hoping Philip would tell Chloe the truth, even though it would be hard to hear. Then again, Chloe isn't really giving him a chance. At least it's not him she's mad at.

I really do want Chloe to give Victor a piece of her mind--partly because he deserves it and partly because he and Philip need to see Chloe's loyalty to Philip. Buutttttt--I kind of want her to do it in front of Maggie, because I think Maggie will be appalled that Victor is playing this game.

I like Chloe seeing the two of them as a team. I don't blame Philip for not wanting to tell Chloe the whole story right this minute. The conversation might be better at home than in the office.

I don't think Philip made a wise decision to hold that information She will eventually find out and Chloe doesn't need much to go off on him so I can imagine that this won't sit well

Here we go again with Philip not being completely forthcoming. Lack of communication is what keeps killing the relationship.

I don't agree with Philip withholding this information at all. While I agree that the office is not the best place, he does need to tell her....and not "someday"...TODAY...after they get home. Rationale on delaying telling her being that he didn't want any more of a scene made at the office. He wanted to prove that he was the bigger person with more thought to the company and employees than Victor had when he came in barking orders.

Chapter 8 D
“Philip, this doesn’t make any sense,” Chloe said. “We’ve worked so hard to get Titan Media to where it is. We’re closing in on iTunes for music downloads. We’re talking to Titan’s publishing division about partnering on audio books. Our first web series is going to debut in January. We’re just getting started! We have a million plans. He can’t do this to us.”
“He’s still chairman of the board and if he wants Brady at the helm instead—”
“Brady?? What?? Why Brady?” She was perplexed. “If I remember correctly, and I’m pretty sure I do, he didn’t even do a good job running Titan Europe when we lived in Vienna.”
“Well, that’s because he was high most of the time,” Philip noted matter-of-factly. “He’s sober now, and he’s always been my father’s favorite son.”
“You’re his son,” she said sadly. “Brady’s his grandson.”
“I know, but he always favored Brady, and most anyone who’s not me. What can I say? That’s the story of my life.”
“This is so unfair.”
“No. Unfair is when your son gets kidnapped and you don’t get him back.” Philip clasped her hands. “Baby, you and me, we’re the luckiest two people on the face of the earth. We have each other, we have Parker. And that’s everything. We can start over.”
Chloe put her hand to her forehead in despair. “I don’t know how you can look on the bright side. I haven’t even processed this yet. I went kicking and screaming into this job, and now I can’t imagine starting over. Maybe Brady will keep us on?”
Philip shook his head from side to side. “As what?” He knew they couldn’t stay in any capacity after his father’s impossible ultimatum. He squeezed her hands. “I don’t want you to worry. We’ll get through this. We can do it, sweetheart. Have faith.”
Looking into Philip’s eyes, Chloe forced herself to smile. “I do have faith … in you. In us. And you’re right. We have each other, so we’ll be fine.” She looked at her phone and glanced toward the door. “I asked Lucinda to keep Parker a little longer, but it’s getting late and she needs to leave soon." She turned back toward Philip. "I’m going to go get him, and let her go home, okay? Buzz me when you’re ready to leave.” She got up and kissed the top of Philip’s head.

I'm glad Chloe is handling this maturely, for the most part, and so is Philip.

Chloe is handling it maturely for now but will that last when she finds out the whole truth? This really isn't going to end well

Glad Chloe is being mature about this. I just hope Philip tells her the whole truth soon.

Chloe is acting like she didn't know about this "rivalry" between Philip and Brady. Honestly, she shouldn't be shocked by it. Philip is going to have to tell her the whole truth....and soon.

Philip needs to tell her the whole truth ASAP!

Philip DOES need to tell her the rest of the story....but I don't blame him for not wanting to, or not wanting to tell her while Victor is still in shouting distance. But I'm a little nervous about him letting her walk out that door without knowing what Victor said.....

I agree with Philip that they are lucky because they got Parker back and they are a family.
