Ok--this is promising. Chloe appears to believe that nothing happened between Philip and Monica when the tracking device went dead. I think she's not being honest with herself or Mary about the rest, though.
Previews, boss? Please??

I'm glad Mary is attempting to talk some sense into Chloe. Hope it sticks once she leaves.

I'm glad Mary pointed out the double standard Unfortunately it doesn't seem like Chloe sees it this way at all I hope she wakes up but she seems so spoiled she probably already has her mind made up

Mary tries to work with Parker, but gets an icy reception.
The condo is pitifully understocked, so Philip heads out to buy groceries, and ends up pouring his heart out to George. (These are some of the author’s favorite scenes in this story.)

Chapter 35b
When Mary entered Parker’s room, she found Philip sitting on the floor leaning against Parker's desk with his knees bent. He was mindlessly playing one of Parker's video games. Parker was lying in his bed quietly talking to the small stuffed elephant he was holding.
“I have to go now,” Mary said fom the doorway. Parker turned his head and his eyes widened. Mary came further into the room. “Parker, your mom and dad have my phone number. I want you to call me anytime you want, day or night. Okay?”
Still lying in his bed, Parker said, “You coming back?”
“If you want me to. Meanwhile, you'll be coming to my office the day after tomorrow, but you be sure to call me if you need me sooner.” She leaned over kissed his forehead. “Your mom and dad love you very much, and so do I.” She looked at Parker’s toy chest near his closet and went over to it. She picked up a GI Joe doll, the only toy that looked like a human. “I like this one. Where did you get it?”
Philip lifted his head. “I got that for him. A few months ago, he started asking what it was like to be a Marine, and I got him that doll so we could talk about my time in the service.”
Mary held the doll up to handed it to Parker. “This is a good one, Parker. He’s big and brave and you can talk to him when you feel sad or scared. You can even bring him to day care with you. And when you and I get together, you can tell me what you said to the Joe doll.”
Parker batted her hand away and sent the doll sailing across the room. “It doesn't work,” he whined. “It don't keep me safe.”
Philip’s eyes grew watery as he watched GI Joe land on the floor near his feet. He picked up the doll.
Mary sighed. Leaning over Parker, she stroked his head and quietly said, “I understand how you feel, but you’re safe now, I promise.” She touched the stuffed animal that was resting on Parker’s stomach. “Hold onto your stuffed elephant here. What's his name?”
Parker held the stuffed animal tighter. “George.”
“Hold onto George.” She patted Parker’s head and turned to leave. On her way out of the room, she squeezed Philip's shoulder. “You hold on too. Hang in there, Philip. It'll be dark for a while but I promise, the sun will rise.” Philip nodded without taking his eyes off Parker.

I could really feel Parker's fear here. It has to be so hard for Philip and Chloe to see the kind of shape he's in.

You KNOW I love that Parker has an stuffed animal named after George....
Poor kid. Coming back from this is going to be a struggle. I wish Dr Richards could spend more time with him now, but it may just be too soon to have much of an impact.

I can't imagine how hard it must be for Philip to see his son like this. It's cute that he named the elephant after George.

Ugh! That last chapter was tough. it's so hard knowing that Parker feels safer with "George" than he does "the Marine". I'm glad parker's talking to Mary. Hopefully human George will be able to add additional help in getting Parker through this.
I'm not a bit surprised that Chloe said that if someone that she knew had taken Parker, it wouldn't be the same....and I'm glad that Mary called her out on it. I can't imagine Philip wanting to hang around too much longer knowing that every move he makes and every person he meets is going to be criticized and blamed for all of Parker's problems.

Chapter 36a
After Mary left, Philip went out to the kitchen to make some lunch for the three of them. There wasn’t much in the fridge and everything that was in there looked either half rotten or completely rotten. He opened the milk and wrinkled his nose. “No wonder Mary didn’t drink her coffee,” he mumbled. He walked down the hall to the laundry room where Chloe was doing a load of wash. “We’re out of just about everything. I’m gonna go to grocery store. Anything special I should buy?”
“Soy milk and salad greens,” she said.
He tapped his temple. “Already on my mental shopping list.” Chloe didn’t smile. She didn’t react at all. She merely continued to sort colors. “Okay then,” he said. “I’ll be back in a couple hours.”
*
Philip was pushing his cart down the aisle at Whole Foods when George stopped him. “Hey Phil! What are you doing here?”
Philip looked around and shrugged. “Same as everyone else. Shopping.”
“Why didn’t you just call me? I’d a done the shopping for you and delivered it myself.” He looked around to make sure no one else was listening. He leaned a little closer. “‘Course, we don’t do that normally, but you ain’t no regular customer.”
“Thanks George, I appreciate that, but it’s fine.” Philip gave George a weak smile. “I kind of needed to get out of the house for a while anyway.”
“Uh oh.”
Philip took a deep breath. “Yeah. Uh oh.”
“Parker okay?”
“So-so.” He tilted his head from side to side. “He’s having a rough go.”
“And so is his dad, huh? I’ve seen that look before,” George observed. “Listen, leave your cart at customer service and go into my office. I’ll bring you a beer and we’ll talk.”
Philip sighed. He had just finished listening to Mary, but Mary was a family therapist, someone he paid. She cared about him, but she wasn’t his friend, and he could use a friend right now.
Over the last few years, George had become a good and true friend. Plus he was a great listener and usually had good advice. Mary was great too, but she always had an agenda. George was just George. He never judged.
