Parker is a smart little cookie!! Hooray for Steve--but we should have expected a visit from him in a Kpatch story, right? 😉

So glad that Phillip called Steve and that Steve was able to follow Phillip and Monica to the storage unit.

I wonder if that law is a state by state thing. Our scout pack has a storage unit and it doesn't have that feature on it. That was a complete fabrication.

Chapter 28b
Rafe patted Steve’s arm. “Good job, Steve. You did what the entire Cook County Police Department couldn’t do.” “All in a day’s work.” Steve looked at Philip again. “That boy of yours is resourceful. When he turns eighteen, I’m hiring him to work for me at Black Patch. Say, how is the little dude? Is he okay?”
Philip looked over at Chloe and took a deep breath. “We sure hope so.”
“Detectives Brady and Hernandez.” Steve clapped his hands once and addressed his fellow Salemites. “Do you have room for a one-eyed hitchhiker in your sled, seeing as I’m not getting that operation?”
Hope gave him a small smile before turning toward Chloe and Philip. “Chicago PD may need you to testify against Monica.”
“You can be sure we’ll have a few choice things to say to them about her after what she did to Parker,” Chloe replied. She glanced at Philip. “And to him.”
Hope gave Chloe a quick hug. “I’ll call you tomorrow.”
“Thanks for everything,” Chloe said, looking at Hope, Rafe and Steve. “I wouldn’t have made it through this ordeal without you.”
Hope smiled sympathetically at Chloe. She turned to Philip and he hugged her. “Thank you,” Philip whispered. He shook Steve’s and Rafe’s hands and watched them leave the apartment.
When the door closed behind the detectives, Philip turned around and looked at Chloe. She nodded and took a step closer to Philip. “You look terrible.”
“I bet I do.” He took a breath and rubbed his forehead. “I feel a lot better than I look.”
“Are you okay?”
He grasped Chloe’s shoulders and pulled her against his chest. “To be honest, I’m numb. I feel more tired than I’ve ever felt in my life. But the important thing is Parker’s home and he’s safe.”
Chloe put her arms around Philip and rested her head on his shoulder. She was about to relax when she remembered hearing Philip and Monica on the police app. She pulled away and was about to say something when Philip took her hand and said, “I need to know what’s going on in there.” He gestured toward the hallway. “I need to see Parker. Come on.”

Glad that everyone's been reunited. Wonder what Chloe was about to say.

I HOPE Chloe wasn't about to accuse Philip of wanting to do anyhting with Monica or act like anything he did with Monica was freely chosen.
I'm glad everyone is reunited.

I think I know what Chloe was about to ask - question is, will she believe him and continue to blame him?
I need to know what's going on with Parker too. I'm still worried about the little guy.

Chloe needs to put her issues on hold long enough to find out what happened while Parker was gone. I don't blame her at all for wanting to know what happened with Philip and Monica....but Parker needs to be the priority at the moment.

I liked the scene as Steve, Hope, and Rafe were leaving.
I'm curious to see the rest of Philip and Chloe's conversation after they see Parker.

Chapter 29
Philip took Chloe’s hand. “I need to know what’s going on in there,” he gestured toward the hallway. “Come on.”
He led her down the hall and they stopped outside Parker’s room, but stayed out of sight, flattening themselves against the wall outside their son’s room and listening to the conversation inside.
Parker was sitting on the floor with Mary on one side and Daniel on the other. He was looking down, playing with his Etch-a-Sketch and acting like he wasn’t listening to the adults in the room.
“Parker,” Daniel said haltingly, “you know you can come visit me any time you want, little buddy, but you … this … this is your home.”
Mary added, “Your parents love you, Parker. We all do. But they especially would miss you if you went away for very long. Can you tell me why you don’t want to stay?”
“Cuz they’ll make me go back to day care and I might get kid-apped again.”
Listening outside, Chloe gasped. Philip pulled her close, wrapping her inside both his arms.
Back inside the room, Mary said, “I see. Well, it’s May now, and you’ll be starting kindergarten in September. Meanwhile, I’m sure all your friends in day care want to see you. Would you like to see them?”
He shook his head no. “If I can’t stay at Daniel’s, can I stay with you and Dick?” Parker asked on the verge of tears.
Mary sighed and stroked his head. “For a night or two, sure, but Parker, this is your home. What happened to you was a fluke. Do you know what that means?” When Parker shook his head, Mary continued. “It means it was something that’s not going to happen again. You’re safe here, you know that, right?”
“No,” Parker said quietly. “Things change too much all the time around here.”
“Well, you’re right, they do,” Mary agreed. “Change is part of life, Parker. Honey, look at me. I know how you feel, and it’s going to take you a while before you feel like you used to feel, but I promise you’ll be happy again.”
“How do you know?”
“Because I know other children who were away from home for a while, and they’re home and safe and happy now.”
“Parker ... son, look at me,” Daniel said. “There are a lot of people who love you.”
“You?”
“Of course,” he said with a smile. “Me, Nicole, your mom and … and dad. Mary. Your grandparents and aunts and uncles. It’s gonna be okay, buddy. I promise you that.”
Mary looked toward the open doorway and saw shadows there. “Parker? Your mom and dad want to spend some time with you,” Mary said. “Is it okay if I tell them to come in?”
Parker looked up at her. “But will you come back?”
Smiling, Mary caressed Parker’s cheek. “I’ll always be just a phone call away.” Mary kissed the top of Parker’s head before getting up off the floor. She motioned to Daniel to come too.

Ah, so Parker didn't make it out completely unaffected. That's understandable. Glad Mary and Daniel were able to talk to him. Can we please have previews, Kpatch?

I'm glad Parker got out some of his fears. I'm also glad that Philip and Chloe didn't have any jealous reactions to Parker wishing he could stay with Daniel. Will there be previews Kpatch?

Thanks for reading and commenting all week, my friends. It’s so good to have Parker home again, isn’t it? But is the worst behind us? Here’s what you can expect in the week ahead.
Previews
Mary has advice for Parker’s parents, and for Daniel.
Philip imagines getting back to normal.
A new day finally dawns, as the family struggles with their emotions.
