I'm glad Mary is going to stick around while the Chicago police are there. Surprised that Hope and Rafe are leaving so quickly but goodness knows what's going on in Salem while they're away! Previews would be great.... 😊

Yay! I'm looking forward to Mary's session with Parker and to the revelations. I hope Philip and Chloe share a positive moment. They deserve one.

Who's at the door....
Victor and Maggie?
Craig and Nancy?
Another Salem PI/police officer like John or Roman?
Hmmmm....

Chapter 28a
Rafe opened the door to leave and did a double take. “What are you doing here?”
Hope turned around. “Steve!”
“You won’t find Monica in that storage unit,” Steve said with a mischievous smile. “I intercepted her trying to leave the storage unit lot and escorted her to the nearest precinct myself. Even if she pleads insanity, she’s going to be locked up one way or the other for a long time.”
He entered the apartment and Philip walked over. He clasped Steve’s hand, and held his shoulder. “The Cavalry.”
“Well, I wouldn’t go that far. You did the heavy lifting, man. I just trailed you as best I could.”
Philip raised his brows. “I didn’t even know you were there.”
“That just means I was stayin’ outta sight and doin’ my job, dude.”
Philip looked over his shoulder at Rafe, Hope and Chloe. “Steve was my ace in the hole. I contacted him before the two of you even showed up. I wasn’t willing to leave my son’s fate in the hands of the Chicago police.”
“Like I said, I didn’t do much. The wheels were already in motion,” Steve explained. “I tracked Philip to the storage unit and when I overheard that Parker wasn’t there, I did a search on foot, but it sounds like Parker found you first.”
Philip shrugged. “Something like that. We can’t really figure out how he got out of there.”
“Same way Monica got out,” Steve said matter-of-factly.
Philip’s brow knit. “What??”
“The unit only locks from the outside, not the inside,” Steve explained. “There's a safety feature on the inside of those storage units to prevent people from getting locked in. A law was passed a couple years ago on account of all the numbskulls and call girls deciding it was cheaper than a motel to have private liaisons and locking themselves in.” When Hope raised an eyebrow, he said, “Hey, in my line of work, you see it all.” He turned his hand as if he was holding a door handle. “It’s a two-step process. You have to press a button on the knob and turn the knob, all at the same time. I don't know how the little dude figured that out in the dark, or if it was trial and error or just dumb luck.”
“Why didn’t Monica know that?” Hope wondered aloud.
“You got me. My guess is she’s not the sharpest ant at the picnic.” He looked at Philip. “Your personnel people need to do a better job of screening for brains.” He let out a little laugh. “Oh hey, you’ll love this one. While I was escorting her to the cop shop, she kept trying to bribe me with a trip to England.” When Philip raised his brows, Steve said, “I know I don’t have your looks and money, and no offense, but I guess any old dude will do in a pinch. She told me they have the best surgeons over there and she’d pay for my eye operation. Ha!”

Well, that's an interesting turn of events. Glad it was Steve and that he got Monica.

Love Steve! That was great, and a nice surprise. Now we need to know the rest of the story... how did Parker find his way to Whole Foods?

Bwahahaha!!! I just love Steve. So glad he was there to intercept Monica trying to escape.
I wonder if that law is a state by state thing. Our scout pack has a storage unit and it doesn't have that feature on it.
Parker is a smart little boy. I'm sure he saw Monica using that method to get out and copied her. I can't imagine her leaving the door wide open for anyone to come by and see that she had him holed up in there.

Steve is the perfect man for this job. I'm glad he arrived in time to catch Monica before she could get away.
