Chapter 212

CLAIRE: Yes! I knew they were gonna use this song for the dance contest!
CHASE: What is it?
CLAIRE: “Where You Lead”, the theme song to Gilmore Girls. Sung by mother and daughter team Carole King and Louise Goffin.
CHASE: Oh, that's cool. It's catchy.
CLAIRE: Well, prepare to get it stuck in your head if you, me and Ciara do decide to watch the series together.
CHASE: I'd love to. You know, I gotta say, tonight is so beautiful.
CLAIRE: It really is!
CHASE: Hard to believe that it was a year ago we had our first dance.
CLAIRE: And the first of other things.
Claire and Chase kissed.
NOELLE: Gotta say, you're a really good dance partner.
JOEY: Thanks. So are you.
NOELLE: Better than Jade?
JOEY: Definitely better than Jade. And, I'd really rather not talk about her any more than I have to.
NOELLE: Makes sense.
After a while, it came down to three dancing teams: Claire and Chase, Joey and Noelle, and Ciara and Theo. After some time, Theo and Ciara got tapped on the shoulder.
CIARA: Well, at least we won last year.
THEO: Yeah. I think we did okay.
CIARA: We did great. Thanks for the dance, Theo.
Finally, it was down to the last two. Claire and Chase versus Joey and Noelle. Both teams were dancing equally as well as the other. Then, it happened. Claire and Chase must have gotten caught up in the moment, as they both went in for a kiss, but stopped dancing. After a minute had passed, they were tapped on the shoulder. Mr. Woods returned to the stage as the song ended.
WOODS: And we have our winners: Joey Johnson and Noelle Whelan!

O'HAIRE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
NICHOLAS: So...how many bags have you got?
TRIX: Just one. Only had time to pack one and my backpack. In a few weeks, I'll have to go back home to pack more of my stuff.
Nicholas nodded.
NICHOLAS: It's good to see you.
TRIX: You too.
After a few moments, they got Trix's bags and started heading for the parking garage.
NICHOLAS: So, I hear Brisbane's nice.
TRIX: You were there a couple of times when I was a kid.
NICHOLAS: I know. But, it's been a few years.
TRIX: Yes, Brisbane is very nice.
NICHOLAS: That's good.
TRIX: Gotta be honest, I'm a little surprised you didn't send Ivan.
NICHOLAS: Hey.
Trix and Nicholas stopped walking.
NICHOLAS: Beatrix, look, I know I haven't been a great father in the past, and I'm sorry about that. You have no idea how much I wanted to be there for you. But that's going to change. You're my daughter, and I love you. No way would I send Ivan to pick you up. I've been waiting to see you since your mother and I discussed it.
TRIX: Okay.
They continued walking until they reached Nicholas' car. They put Trix' bags into the trunk, then got in and drove off.

Darn. I was hoping Chase and Claire would win. All Noelle needs is to win a dance contest with Joey as part of whatever plot she's dreaming up.

So it sounds like things have not been good between Nicholas and Trix. This is interesting!

I can't believe Joey and Noelle won! I'm glad Joey stopped her from talking about Jade anymore.

I hope we'll hear "There She Goes" at some point.

I hope Nicholas and Trix can repair their relationship.

It's not too surprising that Joey and Noelle won the dance contest since they were actually focused on dancing not on each other.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of Nicholas and Beatrix.

Chapter 213

SALEM HIGH
Everyone clapped and cheered as Joey and Noelle walked up to the stage. Mr. Woods handed Noelle the microphone.
NOELLE: Thank you all so much! This is so awesome! This night is amazing!
Noelle handed the mic to Joey.
JOEY: Guys, I really don't know what to say, but just, thank you. All of you. This night has been great, and I hope it's been great for all of you, too. Thanks again.
WOODS: Let's give another hand to our two winners.

JOEY: Well, that was fun.
NOELLE: Yeah, thanks for the dance.
JOEY: No problem. It was nice to dance with somebody.
NOELLE: So, do you wanna maybe hang out sometime? Go for a coffee or something?
JOEY: Sure, that'd be cool.
NOELLE: Awesome.
Noelle took out her ticket to the dance and a pen, and wrote on it. Then, she handed it to Joey.
NOELLE: Here's my number.
JOEY: Thanks.
CLAIRE: I'm glad Joey won.
Chase nodded.
CHASE: Yeah, good for him. It's just...
CLAIRE: What?
CHASE: I don't know. I don't trust Noelle. There's just something about her I don't like.
CLAIRE: Ciara feels the same. Then again, it's no surprise. Noelle and Ciara haven't been on great terms since Noelle came back from Ireland.
CHASE: That's what I mean. I have the distinct feeling that something's going on here, but I don't know quite what.
CLAIRE: I think I see what you're saying. Still, at least she's not Jade.
CHASE: Good point.
CLAIRE: Hey, forget about her. Whatever's up with her, we'll figure it out later. Right now, let's just enjoy the rest of the night.
CHASE: That sounds great to me. So, what's the significance of this song within the show?
CLAIRE: Well, this was actually played twice. The first time was when the older of the two female main characters, Lorelai, had her first dance with the male main character, Luke. It was then played again at the very end of the series, but I don't wanna give the context away for that.
CHASE: It's beautiful.
CLAIRE: It really is. But, I have a feeling the best is yet to come.
CHASE: How so?
CLAIRE: You'll see. If the final song is what I think it'll be, it'll be awesome!
Philip and Mr. Woods shook hands.
WOODS: I'm glad you were able to chaperone tonight, Philip. It's good to see you.
PHILIP: Thanks, Mr. Woods. It's good to see you, too. Gotta say, Salem High's still the same as I remember it.
WOODS: Well, things get updated, but the school has stayed mostly the same. I hear you're doing quite well.
PHILIP: I'm doing okay, thanks.
WOODS: I knew you would. All of you guys. You, Shawn, Belle, Chloe...I knew you were all destined for great things.
PHILIP: Well, we had very good teachers.
WOODS: I'm also glad that you, Shawn and Belle are still good friends.
PHILIP: We've been through a lot together. But, you know, friendship is important to all of us. And, eventually, we figured that out.
WOODS: That's good.
Mr. Woods looked at his watch.
WOODS: Please excuse me, I have to go make an announcement. It's been very good catching up with you.
PHILIP: You too. Thanks.
Philip and Mr. Woods shook hands again, then Mr. Woods headed for the stage.

I agree with Chase and Ciara. Noelle is bad news, and Joey just seems to go for girls who want to use him. I wonder what Noelle is up to.

I also wonder what Mr. Woods' announcement is going to be.

Chapter 214

After a few more songs, Mr. Woods returned to the stage.
WOODS: Are we all having a good night tonight?
The student body cheered.
WOODS: Good! I am so pleased to hear that! However, sad as it is to say, all good things must come to an end. It is now time for the last song of the night. So, everybody find yourself a partner and enjoy our final song for this evening.
Click here to listen to the song that's playing. The song started, and all the couples got together and began their last dance of the evening. Claire hummed along with the music.
CHASE: I take it that this is the song you were hoping for?
CLAIRE: Yes! It so is! And I'm so happy that they actually played it!
CHASE: That's good. I'm glad to see you so excited about music again. To be honest, I've kind of missed you talking about music all the time.
CLAIRE: Well, you know, this last year's been really crazy.
Chase nodded.
CHASE: Is that all it is?
CLAIRE: Yeah, of course. But, now that the school year is over, and we'll be spending all summer together, prepare to hear a lot more about music.
CHASE: I can't wait! So, since you've told me about all the others, what's the significance of this song?
CLAIRE: Well, this is probably one of the most used songs on the show, next to the theme song. It's called “How to Dream” by Sam Phillips. The thing is, the words to it are almost never heard. Instead, they're replaced by, what fans like to call “la las”.
Chase chuckled.
CHASE: Well, I am totally down for watching this. From all they've played tonight, the music sounds awesome. The whole show does.
Chase and Claire smiled at each other.
CLAIRE: Chase, I love you.
CHASE: I love you too, Claire.
CLAIRE: I'm so glad you asked me to be your girlfriend.
CHASE: I'm glad you said yes.
Claire and Chase held each other as they danced.
CLAIRE (singing with the music, whispered): La...la...laaaaa...when we open our eyes and dream...we open our eyes...
Ciara walked over to Joey.
CIARA: Hey.
JOEY: Hey.
CIARA: Congrats.
JOEY: Thanks. I was kinda surprised to be honest.
CIARA: Why? You were great out there!
JOEY: Well, I kinda thought you and Theo would win again like you did last year.
CIARA: Last year was fun, but I'm glad you won, either way.
JOEY: Thanks. So, where is Theo, anyway?
CIARA: His dad came to pick him up shortly after the dance contest was over.
JOEY: Ah.
CIARA: Yeah. I kinda wish he could have stayed longer, but I get it.
Joey nodded.
CIARA: Where's Noelle?
JOEY: I really don't know. Somewhere around here, I guess.
CIARA: Gotcha.
JOEY: You know, it's kinda hard to believe that a week from today we'll be on a plane going halfway across the world.
CIARA: Tell me about it. I'm so excited!
JOEY: Me too! It's gonna be awesome!
All too soon, the song ended. As it did, Claire and Chase kissed. And now, it was time for everybody to go home. Mr. Woods returned to the stage one final time.
WOODS: All right, everyone. Thank you so much for coming. I hope you all had a fun time! For those of you who are going on the summer trip to Australia, I will see you one week from this evening. For the rest of you, have a wonderful summer. Drive safely. Good night, Salem High!
All of the students clapped and cheered.
