SALEM P.D.
Shawn-D was typing into his computer when he heard a commotion outside of his office. He looked up to see Nicole storm in.
NICOLE: What does E.J. DiMera want to do with my sister, and what are you gonna do about it?!
SHAWN-D: Good morning to you, too, Nicole.
NICOLE: I don’t have time for pleasantries! I want answers!
SHAWN-D: I’m happy to give you what answers I can give, Please close the door behind you and sit down.
Nicole closed the office door and threw herself into the chair across the desk from Shawn-D.
NICOLE: I tried to get answers from E.J., but the chowderheads at the front desk of Salem City Jail wouldn’t let me see him. Since when does not being on the list matter in this town?!
SHAWN-D: Nicole…
NICOLE: So, now I’m asking you, what is going on with my sister and E.J.?
SHAWN-D: If you’re finished shouting, I’ll be happy to tell you what I know, just as I said I would.
Nicole took a deep breath and glared.
SHAWN-D: Thank you. To answer your first, and it seems main, question, that’s what I’m trying to figure out-
NICOLE: You mean you don’t know?!
Shawn-D closed his laptop.
SHAWN-D: I have a theory that I feel is almost certainly the truth.
NICOLE: Almost?!
SHAWN-D: Let’s just say it’s as close as I can get to the truth right now until I can find more evidence. To start with, Jade’s attacker, Stuart Dirk, is dead.
NICOLE: I’m aware. Jade told me. Is he dead dead or Salem dead?
SHAWN-D: No, he’s dead. He murdered himself. I’m not going to go into details, mostly because I legally can’t, but he is definitely dead. Officially, he murdered himself.
NICOLE: What do you mean “officially”?
SHAWN-D: Well, the wound was self-inflicted, but there’s some doubt as to whether he did it of his own volition, or if he was coerced. To muddy things a bit, Dirk’s cell was right next to E.J.’s, and the night before his body was found E.J. was heard whispering things to Dirk into the wee hours of the night. To complicate things further, the day that Dirk’s body was found, Jade received a letter saying that her “little problem” had been dealt with.
NICOLE: And you assume that this letter is from E.J., even though he’s in jail.
SHAWN-D: I think E.J. had Dr. Rolf or someone else on the outside write and deliver the letter, yes.
NICOLE: Jade told me about the letter, too, as well as your suspicions about its connection to E.J. So, have you found anything yet?
SHAWN-D: Not at the moment, but I’m working on it. At the moment, E.J. is being, unsurprisingly, uncooperative. The reason you couldn’t get in to see him, apart from not being on the list, is because E.J. is spending a few days in solitary while he’s under suspicion of coercing Dirk to murder himself.
NICOLE: And if he is found to have sent the letter, what are you gonna do to protect my sister? The DiMeras don’t exactly leave people alone once they’ve noticed them. Anyway, how the hell did E.J. even know about Dirk and what he did?
JENNINGS & BRADY LAW
Aiden had given Chase the office that used to be Andrew’s when they had set up the law practice together, before Andrew had officially joined the ISA. Chase was still doing online courses for law school, and Aiden had given him an office so he could get used to the feel of having one. He was currently on his lunch break, and talking to Claire over the phone.
CHASE: So, how’s L.A.?
SIDE-BY-SIDE: JENNINGS & BRADY LAW/J.W. MARRIOTT - LOS ANGELES
CLAIRE: It’s really cool so far! When I got in on Saturday, it was super late, so I didn’t get to see much. Then I spent Sunday morning getting ready for my interview, but I spent the afternoon looking around. And it was so cool!
CHASE: That’s good!
CLAIRE: Yeah. We should come out here together for a vacation sometime, once we’re able to.
CHASE: I’d love that!
CLAIRE: How’s everything back in Salem?
CHASE: Oh, it’s good. Not much has really changed.
CLAIRE: That’s good.
CHASE: How soon is the interview?
CLAIRE: It’s coming up in…
Claire looked at her watch.
CLAIRE: Half an hour.
CHASE: I should let you go so you can get over there, then.
CLAIRE: It’s actually right down the street from my hotel. But, you’re right, I should probably make my way over there.
CHASE: Good luck, Songbird. You’ve got this!
CLAIRE: Thanks.
Claire took a deep breath.
CLAIRE: I love you.
CHASE: I love you too.
CLAIRE: Call me after work so I can tell you about the meeting.
CHASE: I will, for sure.
CLAIRE: Okay, bye.
JENNINGS & BRADY LAW
CHASE: Bye.
Chase hung up his phone, and smiled at the picture of him and Claire that was his phone’s background.
Belle knocked on Aiden’s office door, which was open. Aiden looked up from his paperwork.
AIDEN: Belle, come on in.
Belle walked in. Aiden stood up.
AIDEN: How are you?
Belle took a deep breath.
BELLE: I’m okay. It’s been a long few weeks, but I think I’m finally okay.
AIDEN: I understand. It’s a process I know all too well, and I’m very sorry you’re having to go through it.
BELLE: Thank you. Not just for that, but for everything. You and Hope and everyone, you’ve all been so amazing.
AIDEN: Well, we all loved John, and we all love you, as well.
BELLE: I love you guys, too.
Belle cleared her throat.
BELLE: Anyway, I didn’t just come to thank you for everything you’ve done for my family. I came to thank you for letting me have so much time off, and to let you know that I think I’m ready to come back to work.
