After the sun had gone down, Sydney went back around the deck. She soon found Silver and Neveah again. Neveah was sitting on a bench, and Silver was lying on it, her head in Neveah’s lap. Neveah waved Sydney over.
NEVEAH: Hey, Syd.
SYDNEY: Hey. Sorry I kinda disappeared for a bit there. The sun looked so beautiful going down from the deck.
NEVEAH: You’re all good.
SYDNEY: So, how are you guys liking the dance so far?
NEVEAH: I’m having a good time, mostly because I grew up with this kind of music. Silver, on the other hand…
Silver moaned softly.
SYDNEY: What’s wrong?
SILVER: I feel horrible. I think I’m getting seasick.
SYDNEY: Oh, I’m sorry.
Sydney took Silver’s hand and squeezed it.
NEVEAH: I’m gonna go see if I can find Nurse Stone. I’m pretty sure she’s one of the chaperones for the dance. Syd, would you…?
SYDNEY: Absolutely.
Silver sat up for a moment so Neveah could get up. Sydney took her place, and Silver laid back down.
NEVEAH: I’ll be back as soon as I can, okay, babe?
SILVER: ‘kay.
Neveah walked inside. Sydney gently rubbed Silver’s back.
SYDNEY: I’m sorry you don’t feel well.
SILVER: Thanks. Me too.
She gulped.
SILVER: Sydney…how close is the bathroom?
SYDNEY: Come on.
Sydney helped Silver up and led her to the nearest restroom. A few minutes later, they came back to the bench and sat down.
SILVER: Sorry about this.
SYDNEY: Don’t be. It’s not like you can help it. If it helps, we’ll probably be coming back into Salem Pier fairly soon, since it’s getting kinda late.
Sydney put an arm around Silver and held her.
SALEM UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL
Kayla sighed.
KAYLA: Unfortunately, that’s not terribly surprising. A lot of coma patients, particularly ones who’ve experienced head trauma like Joey has, suffer short term memory loss, especially after they first wake up.
ALANIS: Do you know if he’ll get his memories back?
KAYLA: It’s hard to say. There’s certainly precedent for that happening, so it’s possible. The good part is, he’s awake and fairly alert, and he was only in a coma for about two weeks, which means he has a better chance of getting his memory back than if it lasted longer.
ALANIS: Oh.
Kayla put her hands on Alanis’ shoulders.
KAYLA: Hey, I don’t want you to worry. I’ve known Carly for years. Joey is in very good hands. And we’re all gonna be here for him, no matter what happens.
Alanis nodded.
ALANIS: I know.
Kayla and Alanis hugged.
SALEM BUSINESS DISTRICT
E.J.: What an unexpected pleasure this is. I didn’t know you were back in Salem.
TAYLOR: I’ve been back for a while now, actually. I came back several months ago when Nicole got attacked.
E.J.: Ah yes. I’d heard about that.
TAYLOR: I’m sure. I’m rather surprised that I haven’t seen you until now. Where’ve you been hiding yourself?
E.J. chuckled.
E.J.: Oh, I’ve not been hiding. I’ve been taking care of some business overseas. DiMera’s London division was having a spot of bother, so I went over to help sort it out. As it happens, things over there needed to be almost completely reworked, so it took quite a while. On the plus side, it did mean I got to be in London for the King’s coronation last month, so it’s not all bad. I got back to town a few days ago.
TAYLOR: I see.
E.J.: So, what are you doing in the business district?
TAYLOR: Oh, I work for Alamain Industries. I’m Nicholas Alamain’s assistant.
E.J.: Ah, very good. I’m sure that’s thrilling.
TAYLOR: It has its moments. Say, what are you doing tonight?
E.J.: Dinner with the family, I’m afraid. Now that I’m back, there are certain things I need to catch up on. What about tomorrow?
TAYLOR: Tomorrow is free, actually.
E.J.: Excellent. Shall we have dinner, catch up a bit? (softly) Perhaps discuss what’s really going on here.
TAYLOR: Name the place.
E.J.: Antoine’s. Unless, of course, you’d prefer the Penthouse Grille.
TAYLOR: Antione’s will be perfect.
E.J.: Wonderful. I’ll see you tomorrow. Let’s say…6:30?
TAYLOR: I’ll be there.
E.J.: I look forward to it. I’ll see you tomorrow, Taylor.
E.J. took Taylor’s right hand and kissed it, then walked away. Taylor watched as he left, then let out a sigh.
TAYLOR (thinking): Oh, this is about to get interesting.
