SAMI & LUCAS’ APARTMENT
Sami was woken up early by a noise coming from down the hall. Not wanting to wake Lucas up, she quietly put on her robe and walked down the hall to check it out. The bathroom door was slightly ajar, and she gently pushed it open to find Sydney leaning up against the toilet and holding her hair back with one hand.
SAMI: Oh my god! Sydney, what’s going on?
Sydney gulped.
SYDNEY: I don’t feel well.
Sami knelt down by Sydney.
SAMI: Baby, what’s wrong?
SYDNEY: I woke up a little bit ago and my stomach hurt really bad. I tried going to the bathroom, but it didn’t help. Then I started throwing up and…
Sydney took a deep breath.
SYDNEY: I’ve felt really bad since then.
SAMI: Oh, sweetheart.
Sami felt Sydney’s forehead with the back of her hand.
SAMI: Oh, you’re really warm! Baby, throw some clothes and shoes on. I’m taking you to get checked out.
SYDNEY: Okay.
Sydney slowly got up. Sami quickly cleaned the bathroom, and a few minutes later, she and Sydney had both put on some clothes and were getting ready to leave. Sami grabbed a bowl from the kitchen and handed it to her.
SAMI: Here, bring this just in case.
Sydney nodded, then she and Sami left.
BRADY PUB
Claire had come in early to talk to Max.
MAX: Are you sure you’re ready to come back?
CLAIRE: Uncle Max, I’m fine. Besides, I’m right-handed anyway, so it’s not like I used my left all that much, anyway.
MAX: Okay, if you’re sure.
CLAIRE: I am. Thanks for being so concerned about me, though. I really appreciate it.
MAX: Of course. You’re one of my best employees, and my favorite great-niece, as well.
CLAIRE: Only great-niece.
MAX: That’s why you’re my favorite. Anyway, I’ll have you on the register today, you should be able to do that with just your right hand.
CLAIRE: Sounds good. Thanks, Uncle Max.
MAX: No problem. I’m glad to have you back.
CLAIRE: I’m glad to be back!
HOPE & AIDEN’S HOUSE
Hope and Aiden were getting ready for their day.
HOPE: Well, this has been quite the week.
AIDEN: That it has. Quite a couple of weeks.
Hope nodded. Aiden took a deep breath.
HOPE: Something on your mind, Mr. Jennings?
AIDEN: There is, as it happens. I’ve been thinking about how to approach the subject for a bit, but I suppose the best way is to come right out and ask.
HOPE: Ask what?
AIDEN: Hope, I’m happy for you and the kids that Bo is alive, and I don’t want to seem unfair, but after two weeks, I’ve gotta know…where does this leave us?
HOPE: That’s not an unfair question at all. I’ve been wondering about that for a little bit, myself.
AIDEN: And, what are you thinking?
SALEM UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL
Kayla was about to start her shift, but came a few minutes early to check in on Joey. She sat by his bedside and held his hand.
KAYLA: I’m so glad you’re okay, baby.
JOEY: Me too. Or, at least I will be. I just wish I could remember how and why I ended up in the hospital.
KAYLA: I know. I know it must be frustrating. Where’s Alanis?
JOEY: She got discharged yesterday, so she went home to get some sleep. She wanted to stay, but she looked totally exhausted, so I convinced her that I’d be okay if she went and got some sleep for a few hours. I’m sure she’ll be back once she’s up.
KAYLA: She was so worried about you.
JOEY: I know. And I appreciate it. I’m gonna be okay, though.
KAYLA: I know you will. Now, I need to get to work. I’ll check in with you later.
JOEY: All right. Thanks for coming, Mom. I love you.
KAYLA: I love you, too, baby.
Kayla kissed Joey’s forehead, then left the room.
A little while later, Sami and Sydney sat in one of the rooms. Noelle was doing her clinic hours that morning, and was examining Sydney.
NOELLE: So, when did these symptoms start?
SYDNEY: A couple hours ago. I woke up around 4:30 with a really bad stomach ache. I started throwing up a little after that, then my Mom found me.
NOELLE: Gotcha. So, aside from vomiting, stomach pain and fever, have you had any other symptoms?
SYDNEY: I did go to the bathroom and it was watery.
Noelle nodded and typed something into her tablet.
SYDNEY: And even though I have a fever, I feel cold.
SAMI: She’s been shivering since I found her.
NOELLE: All right. Have you eaten anything out of the ordinary lately?
Sydney shook her head.
SYDNEY: I don’t think so. Oh, wait. I did have some shrimp last night. I’m the only one in the family who likes it, aside from my Grandma Marlena.
NOELLE: Okay. Have you traveled anywhere recently?
SYDNEY: Nope. Unless you count a cruise around Salem Bay. Last night was Salem High’s Last Blast Dance, and it was held on a boat.
NOELLE: Yeah, that’s not exactly what I would count as traveling, but that is good information to know.
After typing one more thing in, Noelle set her tablet down.
NOELLE: Okay, I think I have a pretty good idea of what’s going on, but just so we can be 100% certain, I’m going to order a test. I’d like you to go down to the lab so they can collect a stool sample.
SYDNEY: Okay.
SAMI: Well, what do you think it is?
NOELLE: I can’t say for certain until after the test-
SAMI: But you said you have a pretty good idea. So, if you have a pretty good idea, what is it?
SYDNEY (quietly): Mom…
NOELLE: I was getting to that. As I was saying, I can’t say for certain until after the test, which I’m going to mark as important so we can get Sydney here some meds for so she’s not in any major discomfort for much longer, but I think it’s likely food poisoning.
