Chapter 159
SALEM HIGH
The gym in Salem High was packed with adults who had, fifteen years ago, been students. They were all standing, looking towards the front of the gym. There was a stand there, and the reason they were looking became apparent soon. Mr. Woods came up to the stand. There were claps and cheers from many of the students.
WOODS: Thank you. It's good to see you all again. You know, I look out at this room, and I am so happy to see so many of the young men and women that I had the privilege of getting to know fifteen years ago. And I am very excited to catch up with all of you. So, let's begin. Welcome to Salem High School's Class Reunion for the Class of 2002!
Several more cheers and claps came, then the music began. Click here to listen along with the music:
A number of people began dancing. Philip walked into the gym. He looked around for someone, and yet no one in particular. What he found was less than what he'd hoped for. Jason walked up to him.
JASON: Yo, yo yo! Philly K!
Jason and Philip high fived.
PHILIP: Jason. How's it going?
JASON: Great, dude. The football life is a-wait for it-mazing!
PHILIP: Good. That's good.
JASON: Don't tell me you're still stuck in that drab office with your old man.
PHILIP: If by that you mean Titan, then yes. And I'm not stuck. I chose to work there.
JASON: Nah, dude. The Philip I knew would never choose to stay in some stupid office job.
PHILIP: Well, I'm not the Philip you knew. I grew up. Being in the Marines does that to you.
JASON: Looks like it. You still with Ghoul Girl?
PHILIP: Don't call Chloe that.
JASON: Ooh. Looks like a hit a sore spot. What? You and Ghoul Girl get into a fight or something?
Philip looked away. He was sorry that he did, as he saw Cynthia walk up to him.
CYNTHIA: Hey, soldier.
PHILIP (to himself): Great. Jason Welles and Cynthia Austin both on one night.
JASON: Hey, babe.
CYNTHIA: Jason. Well, look at you. You've certainly got some muscles.
JASON: All from the football, babe. All from the football.
CYNTHIA: Yeah, that's real nice. I'm trying to talk to Philip, though.
PHILIP: Actually, maybe you two should catch up. I haven't said hi to Mimi yet. Excuse me.
Philip walked away. Meanwhile, Belle and Shawn-D were talking with Susan Adamson.
SUSAN: It is so cool that you guys are still together!
SHAWN-D: Thanks.
BELLE: We're glad you're doing well.
SUSAN: Thanks. I missed you guys so much!
Belle and Susan hugged.
BELLE: We missed you, too.
SHAWN-D: Hey, if you're staying in town for a few days, we should have dinner sometime.
BELLE: Yeah, you could meet our daughter, Claire, and we could have more time to catch up.
SUSAN: I'd love that.
Just then, Jan walked up behind Shawn-D and Belle.
SUSAN: Um...I should go. Excuse me.
Susan quickly walked away.
BELLE: What was that about?
JAN: Looks like sweet little Susan didn't miss me very much.
Belle and Shawn-D turned around.
JAN: You guys left the parking lot before I had the chance to thank you for being good to me when I had lost my memory.
SHAWN-D: Well, you're welcome. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have something I need to get done.
BELLE: What?
SHAWN-D: You'll see. I think you'll like it.
Shawn-D and Belle kissed. Then, Shawn-D walked away.
JAN: Looks like you and Shawn are still doing well. Adorable.
Belle turned to look at Jan.
JAN: Ooh, look. Chloe's here. I should go say hi to her. I'll catch up more with you later, Belle.
Jan walked away.
