SALEM UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL
Claire sat up in her bed. She had just finished eating. Addie walked in.
ADDIE: Good morning, Claire. How are you feeling today?
CLAIRE: Pretty good, thanks.
ADDIE: Excellent. I come bearing good news. I got your lab results back, and you are getting out of here today.
CLAIRE: Really?
ADDIE: Really. All of your tests are looking good. Your speech is improving, as is your motor function. I would like you to continue therapy for both of those, but that can be done as an outpatient.
CLAIRE: Okay…I can do that.
ADDIE: Aside from that, you’re in good shape. I’ve got Maxine working on the paperwork right now, and she’ll let you know when you’re free to go.
CLAIRE: Great. Thank you…so much, Dr. Horton! I’ve gotta tell…Chase the good news!
ADDIE: You’re welcome. Take care of yourself.
CLAIRE: I will, thanks.
Addie nodded and left the room. Claire texted Chase.
CLAIRE: I get to go home today!!
TEXT from CHASE: Awesome! How soon?
CLAIRE: Not sure, but Dr. Horton says the papers are already being worked on.
TEXT from CHASE: Cool. I’m just getting back from shopping. I’ll come in a few & pick you up.
CLAIRE: Can’t wait! <3
BRADY PUB
Mimi and Belle walked in the door and sat down at a table.
MIMI: So, you won the big case, as I knew you would.
BELLE: Yep. Thankfully, Charlie kind of sank his own argument there.
MIMI: You’re not actually serious about him saying he killed those girls but wasn’t guilty, are you?
BELLE: Believe me, I wish I wasn’t. Unfortunately, that’s the kind of person I was dealing with.
MIMI: Massive ego.
BELLE: You’ve got that right. Thankfully, it’s over, and I personally would love it if I never had to hear Charlie’s name again.
MIMI: I hear you on that. It’s just…
BELLE: What, Meems?
MIMI: You don’t think he’ll try to get off, do you?
Belle sighed.
BELLE: I can’t say that the thought hasn’t crossed my mind. He defended himself, and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he tried to claim he had inadequate defense, but that wouldn’t fly in court, since Judge Fitzpatrick tested him and declared him competent. Plus, all the evidence is there. If he does try something to work the legal system, I’ll be there to put a stop to it.
MIMI: As I figured. Okay, let’s get our minds off of that creep.
BELLE: Great idea. When you texted last night, you said you had good news.
MIMI: I do, as it happens. I found a place nearby to rent.
BELLE: You’re moving back to Salem?
MIMI: At least for a little bit, yeah. I found an apartment with an initial six month lease, and the price was right, so I thought, why not? I can work pretty much anywhere, since all of my work’s online.
BELLE: Meems, that is so great! I’m thrilled that you’re moving back!
MIMI: Thanks, me too! It’ll be nice to be back for a little bit, see everybody.
BELLE: Absolutely!
Rex walked in from the back. Since last we saw him, he had stopped using a wheelchair and was now walking again, though with a noticeable limp. He hadn’t gone unnoticed by Mimi.
MIMI (under her breath): Oh, great. Well, I said everybody…
BELLE: What’s wrong?
Mimi jerked her head in Rex’s direction. Belle glanced over.
BELLE: Meems, this doesn’t have to be a big deal.
MIMI: I don’t plan to make it one, but if he tries to start something-
BELLE: He won’t. What happened with you two, it was a long time ago. Rex is a different person now, in more ways than one.
MIMI: Yeah, sure.
Belle and Mimi put in their orders. While they had been ordering, Rex noticed them at their table. He waited until the waitress left, then walked over.
REX: Hey, Belle. Mimi.
Mimi stood up.
MIMI: Rex.
DIMERA MANSION
Johnny and Meadow walked down the hall to the living room.
MEADOW: Thanks for letting me stay the night, and everything else. You’ve been awesome lately.
JOHNNY: No problem. How’re you doing? Sorry, I know I keep asking that, but it’s just ‘cause I care about you.
MEADOW: No, you’re good. I totally get it. I’m okay, honestly. Relieved it’s over. Obviously, the trial brought up some painful memories. But, it’s been seven or eight months since it all went down, and I’m okay.
JOHNNY: Good.
MEADOW: That river we ate dinner by and watched the sunset last night was so beautiful! Do you think we could go down there again sometime?
JOHNNY: Absolutely! Now that school’s out and we’re both free for the summer, we can do whatever we want.
MEADOW: Cool.
The couple made it to the living room, where E.J. was sitting.
E.J.: Morning, you two.
JOHNNY: Hey, Dad.
MEADOW: Hi, Mr. DiMera.
E.J.: Did you two have a pleasant evening?
MEADOW: Yeah, it was nice. Johnny took me on a walk by the Salem River. It was so beautiful out there.
E.J.: Yes, it’s a very nice location. I’m glad you enjoyed yourselves.
JOHNNY: Thanks. Well, we’re just about to head out for breakfast.
E.J.: Good. Have a lovely time. Oh, Johnny, sometime today, come and see me. We have something to discuss.
JOHNNY: Okay, sounds good.
E.J.: Nice to see you again, Meadow.
MEADOW: You too.
JOHNNY: I’ll be by sometime later, Dad.
E.J.: Very good.
Johnny and Meadow walked outside.
MEADOW: Wonder what that was all about.
JOHNNY: No idea. But, that’s my Dad, cryptic as usual. Anyway, ready for breakfast?
MEADOW: So ready.
Johnny and Meadow got in Meadow’s car.
JOHNNY (thinking): At least Father was polite enough not to mention the “project” in front of Meadow. I was hoping he’d forget about it after all these months. I’ve got to do something to prove to him and André that I’m still on side, but how do I do that without raising Meadow’s suspicions? I’m sure she wouldn’t be too thrilled if she found out what we used to do.
