SALEM UNIVERSITY
MEADOW: André? As in that slightly creepy uncle of his?
ALLIE: That’s the one, and he’s more than slightly creepy.
MEADOW: Having never met him, I’ll have to take your word for it. Anyway, what makes you think it’s him?
ALLIE: It fits. As far as I know, André’s on the run. At least, that’s what Johnny told me the last time he came up. Ever since we came back to Salem, Johnny and André have been close, which is not good.
MEADOW: Why? What’s this guy done?
ALLIE: A lot of stuff, most of it before I was born. From what I’ve heard from my family, he once made half of Salem think their loved ones were dead while he was really holding them prisoner on an tropical island that was identical to Salem.
Meadow blinked.
MEADOW: You’re serious?
ALLIE: Well, that’s what my Grandma Marlena’s told me, anyway.
MEADOW: Do you think we should, like, tell someone about this?
ALLIE: It probably wouldn’t be a bad idea. My Grandpa works for the Salem P.D., maybe after classes tonight we could go over and talk to him.
MEADOW: Good idea.
In his dorm room, Charlie was looking at the website that he had uploaded the pictures to the other night. He thought back to a few nights ago.
CAR - FLASHBACK
It was a cool night, even for early March. Manny sat in the back seat while Charlie drove.
MANNY: Thanks again for the ride. I really need to get my license one of these days.
CHARLIE: No problem. Always happy to have a paying customer.
Charlie turned the steering wheel and began to slow the car down. Manny looked out the window.
MANNY: Hey, I don’t wanna be rude or anything, but this isn’t my stop.
Charlie said nothing, he just stopped the car and unbuckled his seatbelt.
MANNY: What’s going on?
CHARLIE: You were wrong, this is your stop.
MANNY: What-
CHARLIE: Get out.
Charlie opened the door and got out. Manny hesitated. Charlie opened her door and reached across her, unbuckling her seatbelt. Then he pulled her out by the arm.
CHARLIE: I said get out.
MANNY: Ow! That really hurt, el cabrón!
CHARLIE: Shut up! Shut your mouth right now, or this is going to be a lot more painful than it has to be.
Charlie pressed Manny up against him.
CHARLIE: By the way, I have a confession to make: I almost gave you a free ride. Alas, no such luck for you.
He grabbed Manny by the throat. SALEM UNIVERSITY
Charlie chuckled darkly to himself.
JOHNNY: Seems like you’re in a good mood.
Charlie jumped and quickly closed his laptop.
CHARLIE: Man, you shouldn’t sneak up on a guy like that!
JOHNNY: Sorry, dude. Didn’t realize you were so engrossed in…whatever it was you were watching.
CHARLIE: Wasn’t watching anything. As for your comment on my good mood, I am indeed, in one. Finally got the results of last semester’s finals back - all As, baby.
JOHNNY: Nice! Good for you, killer!
Johnny playfully slapped Charlie’s shoulder. Charlie smirked.
CHARLIE: What did you just call me?
ISA HQ
André sat in his cell, looking at the phone that had been provided for him.
ANDRE (thinking): If only we hadn’t been cut off during our discussion, young Johnny. It seems I’ll have to find other ways to break the blocks put on this device. I’ve got a job for you, and it needs to begin soon.
He tapped the phone against the palm of his hand. A guard walked up to his cell door.
LOFT
Everyone at the party watched as Emmy played with some of her new toys.
JOEY: Great party.
JADE: Thanks. I’m glad everyone’s having a nice time.
JOEY: Totally. Hey, thanks for being so cool about Al and me, and inviting her.
Jade shrugged.
JADE: You guys are engaged, you’re a big part of Emmy’s life, it made sense.
JOEY: Still, thanks.
JADE: No problem.
Emmy ran over and grabbed Joey’s hand.
EMMY: Uncle Joey, come play with me and ‘lanis!
JOEY: I get to play with you guys? All right!
Emmy led Joey to the part of the room where her new toys were. Alanis was kneeling down by them. Joey knelt down next to her and the two started playing with Emmy.
NICOLE: That was nice.
JADE: I meant what I said.
NICOLE: I can tell.
JADE: Honestly, I’m just glad Joey’s cool with me now after all the crap I put him through before Emmy was born.
NICOLE: He’s a good kid, and it helps that you’ve both grown over the last five years.
Jade nodded.
NICOLE: So, how’re you doing?
JADE: I’m okay. Happy that Emmy’s having a good time.
NICOLE: Looks like everyone is.
JADE: Yeah.
NICOLE: What’s on your mind, kid?
JADE: Nothing.
NICOLE: Yeah, that’s really convincing.
JADE: I don’t want to spoil the party talking about it, we’ll talk later.
NICOLE: Okay, just as long as we do talk later.
JADE: We will. Now…
Jade clapped her hands together.
JADE: Who wants cake and ice cream?
SALEM P.D.
Roman and Rafe were looking over files in Roman’s office.
RAFE: You find anything?
ROMAN: Not yet. You?
Rafe shook his head.
RAFE: Closest we’ve got’s still that video footage, and that only proves that he was there at what we believe to be the time of the murder.
ROMAN: That he was the only person who went in or out of that hallway in that timespan. But, yes, not quite enough evidence, as you say.
There was a knock at the door.
ROMAN: It’s open.
Officer Sutton walked in.
ROMAN: Sutton.
SUTTON: Deputy Commissioner, Officer Hernandez, I was told I’d find you both in here. Forensics’ analysis just came back on the Morales case.
Sutton handed an envelope to Roman.
ROMAN: Thanks, Sutton.
Sutton nodded and walked out.
ROMAN: Well, here we go.
RAFE: The moment of truth.
Roman opened the envelope and pulled out the file within.
RAFE: Well? What’s it say?
