Chapter 541
SALEM UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL
DAVID: Yeah, I get that. I’m just waiting for the right moment. I mean, there’s not really a lot of time for Carly and I to talk privately. And I don’t think as she’s coming in or leaving the hospital would be a great idea.
SCOTTY: You could go to her office sometime. She usually stays late most days.
DAVID: Well, that’s a thought. I might have to try it. But, enough about my love life for the moment. How are things with Billie?
SCOTTY: Great! She’s happy to be on the force, and I love being back here. And, it’s convenient for both of us, working crazy hours. We’re really happy together.
DAVID: That’s good. How’s my step-great-grandson? Wow, that still feels weird to say.
Scotty and David both chuckled.
SCOTTY: Isaac is great. He just turned a year old, actually. Chelsea and Max are having a birthday party for him this weekend. You wanna come?
DAVID: That’d be awesome, dude! I wouldn’t miss it!
SCOTTY: Great!
Scotty’s phone went off.
SCOTTY: Well, dinner break’s over. Gotta get back out there.
Both David and Scotty stood up and hugged.
SCOTTY: Thanks again for hanging back to have dinner with me, Dad.
DAVID: Anytime, Scott. I love you, dude.
SCOTTY: You too.
MARLENA: I understand why you would be interested in seeing her.
PHILIP: I just wanna know she’s okay. You know, when I found her in Dr. Rolf’s lab, she wasn’t in great shape.
MARLENA: I recall. She was of the belief that she was André DiMera’s daughter.
PHILIP: Exactly. Like I said, I wanna make sure she’s okay.
MARLENA: Again, that is understandable. I’m not suggesting that it is for any other reason. As it happens, I rather think it might be a good idea.
Despite himself, Philip looked a little surprised.
PHILIP: You do?
Marlena nodded.
MARLENA: Melanie seems to respond well to you. This is not at all surprising, you were both close at one point. However, it is more than that. Even when she had no memory of her past life, she responded positively to you.
PHILIP: Did she, though?
MARLENA: She allowed you to take her away from the lab, didn’t she? Even though, as far as she knew, you were merely a stranger who had posed as part of the DiMera family for a time.
PHILIP: Well, that’s a good point.
MARLENA: I would be interested to see how she reacts to you now, given that she has made some progress. So, in answer to your earlier question, yes, you may see her sometime. In fact, I’m scheduled to pay a visit to Bayview tomorrow. If you would like to meet me down there, I will let you in, and you can see Melanie.
PHILIP: Okay. That sounds good. Thanks, Marlena.
MARLENA: No problem. Let’s make it tomorrow at 11 at Bayview, shall we?
Philip made a note on the calendar in his phone.
PHILIP: You’ve got it. Thanks again.
Philip got up and left.
SALEM UNIVERSITY
Trix and Ciara sat up, both making sure to keep covered.
TRIX: Rayne…
CIARA: What are you doing here?
RAYNE: You miss the sign on the door? This is my room, too.
CIARA: I didn’t mean it like that. I just thought you’d be working.
RAYNE: I get a break every now and then, so I thought I’d use one to pick up some stuff I forgot. Not that I need to explain myself to you. The better question is what are you doing here, Brady?
CIARA: I’m-
RAYNE: Don’t bother. It’s a rhetorical question, anyway. I can easily see exactly what’s going on here.
Ciara and Trix looked to each other, then back to Rayne.
RAYNE: So this is why you wanted that room transfer so bad, huh? Makes sense now why Tawna brought it up again tonight when we switched shifts. Don’t worry, I’m not judging. What you guys do is your business, as long as it’s not hurting anybody. Actually, I’m all for it. It’s not that I don’t like you or anything, Alamain, it’s just the way things are. Your roommate, however, Brady, is gonna be harder to convince.
CIARA: Yeah, we figured that.
RAYNE: I’m not saying that it can’t be done, but it’ll take a while. And I’m not really sure how invested in the idea Tawna is.
TRIX: You two really don’t like each other, do you?
RAYNE: We used to, but that was a long time ago.
CIARA: What happened to you guys? Bad break-up or something?
RAYNE: No, I’m not gay. And neither, to my knowledge, is Tawna. Anyway, it doesn’t matter why we don’t like each other. If I agree to this, Tawna won’t. The good thing for you, though, is that only one of us needs to sign off on it. So, let me talk to Whelan, and we’ll see where it goes.
CIARA: It’s odd, Tawna said the same thing. About you not agreeing with what she wants.
RAYNE: She would. That’s the way she is.
Rayne picked up her backpack.
RAYNE: But enough about her for now. I have what I came to get. You two can carry on with all this. Just, please, clean the plug hole when you use the shower in the morning. I’m really tired of picking up random hairs. Have a nice night.
Rayne walked out, shutting the door behind her. Ciara and Trix both laid back down and sighed.
TRIX: Well, that was awkward.
CIARA: You can say that again.
Both girls laid in silence for a moment.
TRIX: So…
CIARA: Yeah…
TRIX: I mean, at least Rayne’s willing to help us out.
CIARA: Tawna said she was, as well. But they both said that if they help, the other wouldn’t. Doesn’t that seem kinda weird to you?
TRIX: Kind of, yeah. D’you think it means anything?
CIARA: I do. I’m just not sure about what.
Both girls sighed.
CIARA: So…
TRIX: Yeah…
CIARA: Despite our earlier interruption, do you wanna give it another try?
TRIX: Sure, why not?
