Chapter 538
SALEM UNIVERSITY
Ciara knocked on the door of the R.A.’s office and went in. Tawna looked up.
TAWNA: Ciara.
CIARA: Hey. Don’t mean to bug you, but I was just wondering if you’d had any time to look into that room transfer.
Tawna sighed.
TAWNA: Unfortunately, not yet. I would have, but I’ve been swamped lately. I will look into it as soon as I can, I promise.
CIARA: Okay. I was just wondering if maybe I could suggest someone that I’d like to bunk with?
TAWNA: You can, but I can’t guarantee that you’ll be able to get who you want.
CIARA: No, I get that. Just an idea.
TAWNA: Of course, I will look into whoever you suggest. Who’ve you got in mind?
CIARA: Trix, er, Beatrix Alamain.
DIMERA MANSION
In the basement, Bart was looking at his computer. Rex entered the room.
REX: Bart, we need to talk.
BART: Just a second. The wedding’s almost over.
REX: What wedding? What are you talking about? Bart, don’t tell me you’re watching that Australian soap opera again.
BART: Wait, wait, wait, this is the best part! Despite the back injury and all the general wedding craziness, they’re finally gonna be married. It’s so beautiful!
Rex grabbed the mouse and paused the video.
REX: Focus, Bart!
Bart wiped his eyes.
BART: I’m sorry, I always get so emotional at weddings.
REX: Look, after we talk, you can go back to watching it, but first, I need to know something. Where is Cassie?
ALAMAIN INDUSTRIES
NICHOLAS: Cassie DiMera?
CASSIE: That’s right.
NICHOLAS: I don’t understand.
CASSIE: I was playing you. It was like a game. Everything that’s happened since I started working for you, everything I said, everything I did, it was part of the game. And you were so fun to play with.
ANDRÉ: Thank you, by the way.
Nicholas’ eyes narrowed.
NICHOLAS: Thank me for what?
ANDRÉ: For your very generous donation, of course.
NICHOLAS: My what?
André chuckled darkly.
ANDRÉ: You’ll soon see. Come, Cassie. Our work here is done.
CASSIE: As you wish, father.
André put an arm around Cassie, and the two walked out. For a moment, all Nicholas could do was stand there in shock. Then, he ran out of the conference room, down the hall, and didn’t stop until he got to his office and found Vivian and Ivan. When he finally stopped running, he was out of breath.
IVAN: Mr, Alamain.
VIVIAN: Nicky, what’s going on? Ivan, don’t just stand there, get him some water.
IVAN: Right away, Madame.
Ivan left the room. Vivian put a hand on Nicholas’ shoulder and helped him to his chair.
VIVIAN: Now, just take a seat. There we go, darling. Now, what is happening? Why have all the lights gone off? I mean, I’ve heard of conserving energy, but this is a bit ridiculous.
NICHOLAS (out of breath): Hadley...you...you were right...about Hadley.
VIVIAN: Well, of course I was. You know I’m a good judge of character, But, of course, now’s not the time to gloat. What has that excuse for a woman done to you, darling?
Ivan returned with a glass of water. Nicholas drank some and took a deep breath.
NICHOLAS: André DiMera…
Vivian’s face grew dark.
VIVIAN: What about André DiMera?
